Chapter 1103
"It's all good," Fiona said softly.
"When I'm swamped, it's the same," she added, grabbing Darwin's arm. "Isn't that the shirt from this morning?"
"That one got dirty," Darwin replied. "Babe, today was an exception. I promise I won't go a whole day without texting you again."
"Alright," Fiona said, patting his back. "Since you said that, I'll try not to bug you in the future."
As they chatted, they walked toward the elevator.
Chicago loved seeing her parents being all lovey-dovey and happily trailed behind them with her hands clasped behind her back.
But as they walked, she noticed something odd. "Daddy."
Both Darwin and Fiona turned around.
"What's up, sweetie?" Darwin asked.
Chicago looked at his leg and then back up at him. "Daddy, where's your cane?"
Darwin was caught off guard.
Xavier, who was following behind Chicago, was also surprised.
He had sensed something was off with Darwin from the start.
The cane!
Darwin hadn't used his cane since getting out of the taxi.
He was walking just fine without it.
"Where's your cane?" Fiona instinctively looked at Xavier. "Is it in the car?"
"Seems like it was left at the meeting place," Xavier quickly responded.
"My daddy can walk well without the cane. He's already healed!" Chicago exclaimed happily. "I saw it, he's walking perfectly normal now!"
"Really?" Fiona looked at Darwin.
She hadn't noticed any issues with his walking earlier.
Darwin quickly replayed his memories.
The last he remembered, the cane was in the park restroom.
"Let me try again," he said, attempting to lift his leg.
But the leg that had been moving freely just moments ago suddenly felt weak again.
"It's okay!" Fiona quickly said when she saw this. "Even if it was just for a while, it shows that the rehab is working, right? Chicago, isn't Daddy amazing for recovering so quickly?"
"Yes! My daddy is super awesome!" Chicago said, giving two thumbs up. It was clear she was the happiest to see Darwin getting better day by day.
Darwin smiled gently at Chicago. But inside, he didn't feel well. It felt like he was enveloped by rain again, and the sound of dripping water started in his ears.
Back home, Darwin found an excuse to go to his room alone and change his clothes.
The living room was lively.
The Preston couple had come over with Stella and were playing games with Charles and Burl.
Janna was watching from the side, holding a sandalwood box filled with small gifts to reward the winners.
Darwin stood on the stairs.
Listening to the laughter, the persistent sound of dripping water in his mind slowly faded away.
"Mr. Solomon." Alexander's voice came from the bottom of the stairs.
Darwin looked over.
He was carrying a lot of drinks, probably just brought back.
Normally, Alexander wouldn't let Stella have these. But now, her happiness was more important, so he indulged her.
"Want one?" Alexander gestured.
Darwin politely shook his head.
Alexander looked at Darwin but didn't rush off. "Mr. Solomon, are you hurt?"
Darwin's expression didn't change as he raised his hand. "Just a nick from the razor, nothing serious. Why?"
"You've just recovered from a major injury, you should be careful and take it easy. You look a bit anemic," Alexander said, gesturing towards the living room. "I'll head over there now."
