Chapter 1160
Fiona's eyes went wide, and she shook her head. "No freaking way. You seriously thinking about starting your own gig?"
Charles just nodded.
Fiona chuckled and glanced at Darwin. "You better watch your back, man. With Charles doing his own thing, you're stuck running Solomon Group solo."
Darwin gave a small, helpless smile.
Fiona added, "Most families would be fighting tooth and nail to take over the company. But in ours, I gotta hold the fort a bit longer."
She laughed so hard her sides hurt.
As they stepped into the elevator, Mike showed up.
He hopped out of his car and locked eyes with Fiona.
Mike wasn't his usual jokey self. He gave Fiona a serious nod.
Fiona looked away.
The elevator doors slid shut.
The camping trip got set for next weekend, quick as that.
They decided to hit up the same forest as last time.
After dinner, everyone gathered to plan what to pack.
Fiona faked a phone call and slipped out to meet Mike.
Mike handed Fiona the injury report of the guy who got beat up.
"That bad?" Fiona said, frowning.
That guy had three broken ribs, with one almost puncturing a lung. His left eye was nearly popped, two fingers were fractured, his left arm shattered, his right shinbone cracked, and his head was covered in numerous bruises.
Fiona could picture how brutal Darwin had been.
"Good thing the rescue was timely, or it would've been worse," Mike said. "I also met the guy's family. Besides him, there's just an old lady and the kid Mr. Solomon was protecting."
This lined up with what Darwin had said; the kid was now with the grandma.
But Fiona still felt something was off.
"Now the guy says he's willing to settle, but he wants three million bucks," Mike continued.
"Okay, but aside from medical bills, I want the rest to go straight to the boy and the old lady," Fiona said.
Mike looked surprised. "Boy?"
"Yeah, isn't it?" Fiona was puzzled too.
"The kid who got beat up is a girl," Mike said.
Fiona's face changed a bit.
Why was it a girl again?
"The boy you asked me to investigate seems to have no connection with the man Mr. Solomon beat up. I searched almost the entire town and couldn’t find any family matching your description," Mike said gravely.
Getting an invite from the Walker Family to Melissa's birth bash meant they had to be important. But after digging around, Mike found out the most famous person from that town was Ivy's ancestor. There were also some small business owners. But no rich families.
"They probably don't live there full-time," Fiona said, pursing her lips. "Did you get the car back?"
"Yeah," Mike said, and before Fiona could ask, he handed her the memory card from the car's dashcam. "Here's the dashcam memory card."
"Alright," Fiona said, taking it.
What was Rex's story?
Was he telling Darwin the truth?
