Chapter 494 My Ideal Couple Can't Be Split Up
"Okay." Daren nodded.
Fiona then moved to leave.
A thought struck Daren, and he called out to her, "Oh, this morning, Steven's little brother called me."
Fiona responded indifferently, "What about?"
"Steven got caught for stealing in broad daylight, and they found he was on drugs, so they locked him up." As Daren explained the situation, he felt a deep sense of disgust.
"What did he call you for?" Fiona asked.
"He said that the police wanted a family member to come by. Steven's wife has been beaten so badly over the years, she's not in her right mind anymore..."
"So, what?" Fiona looked at him. "Are you planning to go and show your filial duty?"
"Of course not," Daren denied immediately, "I'm just worried..."
"Have you or your sister ever had a paternity test done with Steven?" Fiona asked.
"No." Daren shook his head.
"So, there's no evidence at all that links you or your sister to Steven, right?" Fiona continued.
Daren hesitated for a moment before nodding.
"A stranger, what does it matter to you whether they're alive or dead? Daren, you're almost an adult; you should know that if there's a rotten part, you need to cut it off without hesitation."
Daren immediately understood.
"I know what I have to do now."
Indeed, Steven was nothing but a festering sore to their family.
Fortunately, not many people knew they were Steven's children, or that hunk of rotten flesh would be impossible to shake off. The thought of having to pay alimony to Steven when he got old made Daren feel sick to his stomach. Spending even a penny on that man was an insult to him, his sister, and their mother.
He watched Fiona leave. The sun was exceptionally bright outside, and in the flower bed next to the lobby, there was a tall tree. Beneath it, Daren spotted a tall, handsome man playing with two kids. The little girl burst into joyful leaps towards Fiona as soon as she saw her come out. Watching the slender figure precisely catch the child in her arms brought a sense of warmth to Daren's heart. It reminded him of how he used to love being held by his mother like that.
Daren cleared his throat, his steps resolute as he headed towards the person Fiona had just mentioned. "Hello, I'd like to register for a heart transplant."
Fiona hadn't expected Darwin would be waiting downstairs with the kids. "Mommy, how's the sick lady? Is it serious?" Chicago was still worried about everything. Fiona tapped her daughter's nose gently. "Mrs. Clarie’s heart is bad, now we have to wait for a new heart to replace it." It was the first time Chicago had heard of such a thing. Her face showed astonishment. "That's so cool."
Fiona couldn't help but smile. At that moment, Darwin came over and lifted Chicago out of Fiona's arms. "Any other matters?" he asked. Fiona shook her head, and Darwin lifted Chicago high up in the air, saying, "Mommy's done with work, let's go for a big meal!"
Chicago, thrilled with excitement, echoed, "Big meal!"
"Darwin, don't lift her so high," Fiona said, frightened. Chicago, on the other hand, was delighted, wishing her dad would lift her even higher. With a sense of resignation, Fiona watched the father and daughter walk away, Chicago's wild nature shining through more than ever, and now fueled by Darwin.
Holding Fiona's hand, Charles asked, "Mommy, is that the guy who was talking to you just now the bone marrow donor?"
Fiona nodded. "The sick lady is his mother."
Charles processed this information and after a few steps spoke up, "Mommy, the software I wrote earlier has brought in quite a bit of money. Can I pay for the lady's medical expenses?"
Fiona looked at Charles with pride and nodded. "However, can I know how much you sold it for? The expenses for a heart transplant can add up to quite a lot."
She had never asked Charles about these things before. "Enough to cover the medical fees," Charles said calmly.
The curiosity piqued Fiona's interest.
On their way to the restaurant, Fiona caught up with Burl.
After reading the text she sent, Burl quickly replied, "Charles hasn't sold a program for a while, last one was over a million dollars, right? Definitely not less than a million."
Fiona looked at Charles, who was resting with his eyes closed, in surprise.
No wonder he was so composed.
So, the question was, ‘How much money did her Charles actually have tucked away?’
After a delightful lunch, the family of four went to buy camping supplies.
Darwin had already prepared a guide and made a shopping list.
Most of the time, while shopping, Chicago stuck close to him.
Charles, on the other hand, was leisurely, holding his mother's hand, shopping for various odds and ends.
It was a weekday.
The wholesale market wasn't too crowded.
As Fiona and Charles were examining the ingredients list on the food, there was a sudden exclamation behind them.
"Is that you, Sister Fiona?"
Fiona turned around and saw a young couple; the girl looked at her with excitement written all over her face.
"It really is you, Sister Fiona!"
She smiled politely, "Hello."
"Oh my God, I'm so excited, I absolutely adore you, Fiona. Your legendary case on Wall Street is my idol!"
Just then, a sweet, soft voice rang out.
"Mommy!"
"Chicago, slow down," a man's voice followed.
The surprised young woman felt like her breath was taken away.
She had just run into a magnate couple with their two children.
‘What kind of stupendous luck was this?’ she thought.
"Mommy, we've got everything!" Chicago ran up to Fiona and then noticed the fervent looks from behind.
She turned, her beautiful eyes twinkling. "Sister, why are you looking at me?"
"You're so cute!" The young woman couldn't contain her adoration.
Her face was remarkable.
Even though the brother and sister looked alike, the brother's look was handsome, while the sister had that cuddly cuteness that made you want to lift her up high.
"Sorry, are you guys looking to take a photo?" Fiona was not very willing, uncomfortable with more attention on her children.
"Is it possible?" the young woman asked excitedly.
"Adults may, but not the little ones," Fiona said gently.
"I understand! We need to protect the children, I totally get it!" The young woman nodded vigorously and then quickly handed her phone to her boyfriend to take a picture.
They prepared for the photo.
Fiona waved Darwin over.
He obediently went.
Fiona originally thought the girl would stand in the middle for a photo together.
"No, no, no, I'll stand beside you, you two should stand together!"
The young woman got it.
There was no was her favorite couple could be separated.
Fiona couldn't help but find the whole situation amusing and laughable.
