Chapter 98 Blinded by Selfish Desires!!
Hathaway and Darwin's wedding date had been set.
On the 18th of next month, an auspicious day for all matters, especially weddings.
Fiona spent the night on edge, but after Darwin held her for a short while, she fell into sound sleep.
Darwin lowered his gaze, observing the bruises and swelling on her cheek and neck. His heart trembled with pain.
When the bodyguard arrived at Hathaway's residence, she was still asleep.
"Does Darwin have something for me?" Hathaway was somewhat puzzled.
Knowing Fiona, there was a high probability that Janna had spent a fortune buying gifts for Fiona, which had made her irritable these past few days.
Now, the gift brought by Darwin instantly dissipated much of the gloom in her heart.
"Yes, Miss," the bodyguard replied coldly, his tone unusually rigid. He then turned around and handed a rough cardboard box to Hathaway.
Hathaway hadn't yet seen what was inside. But the scent of blood hit her nose. The cardboard box was of poor quality, and there were traces of blood seeping out from its contents. Hathaway frowned and glanced inside.
Then...
"Ah!!!" Hathaway knocked over the cardboard box, and a bloody tongue rolled onto her expensive plush carpet at the doorway.
"What do you mean? Are you insane?" Hathaway shouted in anger.
The bodyguard stood there. "Miss Hathaway, this is Mr. Eric's tongue."
Hathaway froze for a moment, struck by thunder.
"What did you say?"
"Mr. Eric, I don't know who ordered him, but he actually kidnapped Secretary Woods and almost killed her," the bodyguard summarized.
Thinking to himself, “That expression on your face says it all. Were you the one who instructed Eric to kidnap Secretary Woods?”
Hathaway was extremely shocked. She truly had no idea about this. The person she had hired to find a hitman on the black market hadn't returned yet!
Eric...
"I really had no knowledge of this!" Hathaway's face turned pale, and she looked like she could faint at any moment. "How is Secretary Woods? Is she still alive?"
It would be better if Eric had killed her. Otherwise, Eric, that idiot, would have given himself away to Fiona for nothing.
"Of course!" the bodyguard replied.
"And what about Eric?"
His tongue was cut off, so how is he?
"When I left, he was still alive," the bodyguard answered. "Mr. Solomon said if you want him, you can go directly to him tomorrow."
After speaking, the bodyguard was about to leave.
Hathaway hurriedly approached, avoiding that severed tongue. "This has nothing to do with me!"
"That is not my concern."
The bodyguard left without looking back. For some reason, he had a feeling that this beautiful Miss Ross wouldn't be able to marry into the Solomon family.
After the bodyguard left, Hathaway remained in place.
Behind her, Jones approached angrily. "Darwin has gone too far! He really treats the Solomons as expendable pawns? If it weren't for you taking an interest in him, could he climb up to your level? Everyone knows that Mr. Eric is the illegitimate child of the Ross family. He actually cut out his own tongue for a fallen woman!"
"Worthless!!"
Hathaway kicked the severed tongue forcefully.
"Miss!" Jones had never seen Hathaway lose her temper to this extent.
"Since we've already taken action, let's make it more splendid! Why did we get caught by Darwin?!" Hathaway furiously pulled at her hair.
Jones stood beside her, worried.
Hathaway clenched her fists and looked at Jones. "Add more money, I want to get rid of Fiona as soon as possible before the wedding!"
"Do it now?" Jones was somewhat concerned.
"The more Darwin suspects me, the more I have to act. That way, there won't be any suspicion! In any case, even if it's risky, I want Fiona's life!"
Why? A woman with no background. Just because she somewhat resembles Lilian, Darwin treats her like a babe!
Janna is even more absurd!
In such a large conglomerate, instead of entrusting it to someone more outstanding, they set their sights on Fiona!
These people!
All blinded by their own desires.
When Fiona woke up, her whole body was in pain, especially her neck and cheeks. Her throat burned, and when she tried to speak, it felt like a blade scraping against it. She lay on a soft and warm bed, and the terrifying experience from last night slowly came back to her mind. Wait... Did Darwin really cut off that bastard Eric's tongue last night?
"Babe!!!" At that moment, the door opened. Fiona looked confusedly at Ashton, whose face was covered in snot and tears, rushing towards her.
"How... How did you come here?"
"Darwin called me!" Ashton wiped away her tears, looking at Fiona's neck and face, about to burst into tears again. Fiona covered her mouth to stop her.
"Don't cry..." Fiona struggled to speak.
"You better not speak either, sounds like a broken bellows." Ashton sobbed.
Fiona took out her phone and typed: "Did Darwin send you here?"
"Of course not!" Ashton muttered, "I couldn't reach you all this time, worried that something happened to you. When your phone was finally turned on this morning, Darwin answered it." Fiona frowned and glanced at her phone on the bedside table. "Mr. Solomon said you were injured, and I thought it was him who did it. Really, when I came here, I was even prepared to burn bridges with him!" Who would have thought that when she saw Darwin, he was not the ferocious and menacing person she imagined but rather handsome and polite, letting her stay with Fiona. Fiona smiled. She lied back on the soft bed.
"Why didn't you wake up earlier? He just left!" Listening to Ashton's words, Fiona faintly sensed some signs of betrayal. Sure enough... Ashton leaned towards her: "Darwin and I think differently."
Yes, Darwin has really changed recently. She just didn't know how the Ross family would make things difficult for him after this mess with Eric.
Darwin left the mansion to meet Janna. After these past two days, Janna was visibly less spirited than before. It was only this morning that she found out about Fiona's incident last night. Thinking about how Fiona was taken advantage of because she accompanied her to the sanatorium, Janna felt extremely guilty.
"How is she?" Janna hurriedly asked.
Darwin furrowed his brows slightly. "She was greatly frightened and nearly choked to death."
Janna's heart was pounding. "You never visit without a reason, so tell me, is there something you want me to do?"
"It's not a big deal, last night Fiona blinded one of Eric's eyes, and I cut off his tongue," Darwin said indifferently.
Janna paused for a moment, then sneered, "Serves you right!"
"Mrs. Rhoads, I heard you're planning to go to Serene City? Is it convenient to wait for Fiona to get better and take her with you?" Darwin asked.
Janna frowned, "What are you up to?"
Darwin smiled, "He almost killed Fiona. How can I compensate her with just one eye and one tongue?"
