Chapter 1436
Back then, Fiona didn't even want to acknowledge Darwin, and she didn't care.
She looked away.
She placed flowers in front of Jane, Janna, and Joshua, then squatted down to pour a glass of wine for her grandfather. "Grandpa, Grandma, Mom, I brought someone to meet you today. This is Charles and Chicago's dad, Darwin. I haven't mentioned him to you before. We had a rough patch and were apart for a long time. But now, after thinking it over, we've decided to spend the rest of our lives together. So I brought him to meet you."
Darwin's eyes instantly welled up.
"Grandpa, Grandma, Mom, I'm Darwin," he said, his voice shaking. "Please trust me to take care of Fiona. I promise to honor and love her for the rest of my life."
As he spoke, Darwin respectfully bowed three times.
Fiona watched and smiled. She looked at the photos of Jane, Janna, and Joshua on the tombstone.
In her heart, she silently said, 'We'll be okay in the future. Please don't worry and protect him, just like you protected Charles and Chicago. Keep him healthy and safe.'
At the same time, Darwin silently apologized in his heart, 'I'm so sorry for how I treated Fiona in the past. I was arrogant and selfish, not understanding what love truly is. Now, I've realized my mistakes and know that no one in this world is more important than Fiona.'
The sun gradually rose.
After finishing their visit, Fiona and Darwin walked towards the convenience store.
As usual, Fiona went to buy ice cream.
To her surprise, the type of ice cream she often ate as a child was out of stock.
"Oh, the ice cream factory went out of business at the end of last year." The store owner pointed to other options. "These are even better!"
Fiona glanced at the prices of the other ice creams.
She didn't know if they tasted better, but they were several times more expensive than the ones she used to eat.
Fiona grabbed two cones, paid, and walked back while searching on her phone.
Not far away, a few kids were playing marbles.
One of them accidentally rolled a marble to Fiona's feet.
Caught off guard, she stepped on the marble and slipped.
In the nick of time, Darwin, who was waiting outside, rushed forward and caught Fiona steadily.
Fiona, still shaken, looked at Darwin, panting.
"Did you twist your ankle?"
Darwin picked her up and placed her on a nearby bench, squatting down to check her ankle with a serious expression.
"No," Fiona replied softly. "Luckily, you reacted quickly, or I would have had a nasty fall."
After confirming Fiona's ankle was fine, Darwin turned his gaze to the kids who were nervously watching.
The kids were so scared by Darwin's look that one of them, the most timid, started to cry.
"I'm fine. You guys go ahead and play, just be careful around people," Fiona said before Darwin could speak.
The kids, feeling relieved, ran off quickly.
Darwin was speechless.
"What were you looking at so intently just now?" He asked as he helped Fiona put her shoes back on.
Fiona shoved her phone in front of him.
"An ice cream factory?" Darwin was puzzled, then noticed the bag with two cones in Fiona's hand. "The ice cream you used to eat went out of business?"
"Yes." Fiona snapped her fingers.
Darwin smiled helplessly. "So, you want to invest in this ice cream factory and bring it back to life?"
"Yes," Fiona nodded.
That ice cream had accompanied Fiona through many tough times, nurturing her young, wounded soul.
Now it was time for her to give back.
