Chapter 23

"Go inside!" Darwin pushed Fiona on the shoulder, making her stumble and took two steps back. Before she could stop Darwin from entering, he had already stepped inside and slammed the door shut. The loud bang made her heart tremble.

"Mr. Darwin, let’s talk outside if you have something to say," Fiona said in a low voice. She couldn't help but recall Darwin's wicked actions on the cruise.

"Go outside?" Darwin advanced toward Fiona, causing her to frown and instinctively backed away.

"If I go out now, aren't you afraid that your new lover would see me?" Darwin's tone was chilling. "When did you meet that kid from the Klein family? When did you two become so intimate with each other? What did you do behind my back when you ran away together with him?"

"Darwin, can you stop the nonsense?" Fiona furrowed her brow. "There’s nothing going on between Harold and I.. I came to New Port for a business trip."

At this moment, Fiona's back was against the wall, with no more room to retreat. Darwin's cold hand grabbed her neck the next second. "I already have the intimate photos of you both. Are you still trying to deceive me?"

Fiona could feel the hand around her throat tightening, and instinctively, she tried to pry Darwin's fingers apart.
"
I didn't..."

"You've been lying to me all along. Since five years ago, you've been wearing a mask by my side, deceiving me!"

"Mr. Darwin, wasn't that the mask you wanted?" Fiona tightly held onto Darwin's fingers. "You asked me to play Ms. Lilian, and I dutifully acted as you wished to make you happy. But now it's suddenly my fault?"

Darwin's eyes widened at the sound of that.

She was right. Wasn’t that the reason he used to like her?

"Darwin, you're hurting my hand. It hurts…" Fiona felt a tearing pain on her left hand.

Darwin snapped back to reality and unconsciously loosened his grip. Blood stains appeared on Fiona's bandaged left hand.

"Why did you struggle?" Darwin pulled her hand and sat down on the sofa. "Did you bring the medicine?"
Fiona wanted to pull her hand back, but Darwin wouldn't let go. In the struggle, she experienced another wave of pain, causing her to furrow her brow.

"I told you not to move!" Darwin issued a domineering command.

"No need for medication. It was almost healed anyway," Fiona said angrily.

Darwin glanced at her, still angered.

"You just said intimate photos? What photos?" Fiona asked.

Darwin's hostility surged again. He unlocked his phone and flipped through the album. "See for yourself. Did I accuse you wrongly?"

Fiona's face turned serious as she looked through the photos one by one. The more she looked, the worse her expression became.

"You had someone follow me?" Fiona looked at Darwin.

"I don't have the time for that. Someone sent them to me," Darwin impatiently threw his phone aside and stared menacingly at Fiona.

"These are all pictures that were taken from deliberate angles! There are surveillance cameras everywhere in the airport parking lot. Mr. Darwin, you have great connections so why don’t you just look up the complete footage?" Fiona challenged.

"Deliberate angles?" Darwin had never considered that possibility.

"Then what else could it be?" Fiona chuckled bitterly. "With pictures taken from so many angles, which one truly captured me and Harold being intimate?"

After thinking for a moment, Darwin realized none of them did.

"You go check it. I need to rest," Fiona said as she prepared to get up but Darwin forcefully pushed her back down.

"What are you doing?" Fiona's temper flared up.

"Who allowed you to go on a business trip? Why didn't you tell me?" Darwin asked.

Fiona looked at him. "I came here to handle a project that I was in charge of. Why do I need to tell you? Mr. Darwin, I'm not your secretary anymore."

Darwin didn't respond to that. Instead, he asked, "What about Harold? Why is he here?"

"Do you have the right to question me about that?" Fiona became more agitated. "Mr. Darwin, what's wrong with you? Didn't we already sort things out? If you keep holding onto this matter, aren't you afraid I'll misunderstand your intentions? Or do you actually have feelings for me?"

"What nonsense are you talking about?" Darwin's reaction was extreme. Then, he gripped Fiona's chin tightly. “Fiona, our agreement was that you would leave once I get married. But since I haven't gotten married yet, this relationship can’t end."

Fiona stared at Darwin in a daze, as if lighting had struck her.

"Darwin, do you even know what rubbish you're spouting?" Her gaze gradually turned resentful. "For these five years, I've given you my whole heart and soul. Even if you don't love me anymore, you shouldn't treat me like this. Do you have any conscience?" Fiona had never looked at Darwin with such a gaze before.

For a moment, Darwin felt lost.

"Or do you think that by spending money on me, you would own me forever?" Fiona grew more emotional as she spoke. "If that's the case, I'll return everything you've given me. In that case, can you leave me alone?"

"No!" Darwin felt an unprecedented fear, but he didn't even know what he was afraid of. He just answered her question instinctively.
"Darwin!" Fiona scolded him sternly and then, her stomach churned.

She pushed him away and ran to the bathroom, making sure to lock the door behind her. Leaning over the toilet, she vomited relentlessly. Exhausted after emptying her stomach, she sat on the floor, gently caressing her belly. She finally understood that this child didn't like their father because her nausea had been due to Darwin’s presence several times.

Outside the bathroom, Darwin was about to get up and head to the bathroom when he accidentally bumped into Fiona’s bag. The bag was wide open and its contents spilled onto the floor.

Darwin noticed the neatly packed pill bottles and was about to pick them up when his attention was drawn to a piece of paper with words written in red ink. He picked it up and carefully read every word on it, and soon, his expression became cold again.

The paper contained only two messages, where one was to threaten Fiona's life and the other was an insult to her foolish boyfriend.

After a moment, Fiona came out of the bathroom. Seeing the scattered items on the floor, she felt a sudden pang of fear. ‘Did he see those pills?’

She hurriedly went over, haphazardly grabbing the things from the floor and stuffing them back into the bag.

"What is this?" Darwin handed her the paper.

"A death threat," Fiona said, clutching the bag as she entered the bedroom. Darwin followed closely behind. Before he could ask further, Fiona said wearily, “Mr. Wyatt knows the details, so please ask him. I'm really not feeling well and I need to rest."

After vomiting like that, she was pale with bloodshot eyes.

Although Darwin was burning with anger because of the phrase ‘foolish boyfriend’ used in the threat, he couldn't express it. Fiona ignored him, took off her coat and got into bed.

After a while, Fiona felt the bed sink behind her. A familiar breath enveloped her as Darwin embraced her, and all his previous anger disappeared.
