Chapter 502 What Right Does She Have?

Maria was terrified.

She was genuinely afraid that her poor relatives, desperate for money, might resort to violence.

Leaning against the door, she took a moment to collect herself.

Then, she dialed Justin's number again.

After two rings, as usual, Justin hung up.

Maria cried as she sent Justin a voice message, "Honey, my family came knocking, can you settle their money first? The seventeen million I gave you last time, you haven't spent it all, right?"

Moments after the voice message was sent, Justin replied, "Thanks to your so-called 'good fortune' from Chicago, I used that entire seventeen million to plug some holes.

"I know your family is there. Didn't I tell them to go to Thalassa?"

Maria panicked.

She sent him another voice message. "You can't blame everything on Thalassa. Remember when she introduced so many clients to you a few years back, leading to you making a fortune? Why didn't you complain then? Besides, we were supposed to protect Crystal and her family. It was our negligence towards Thalassa's feelings that made her cut ties with us. I know Thalassa's character well; she wouldn't ask these partners to stop working with you. Have you ever considered that maybe without Thalassa's good will, you simply can't keep the business going?"

That voice message enraged Justin.
He immediately called her.

Maria hurriedly answered, "Dear..."

"Bitch, you can't even raise your daughter right, causing trouble for the Shaw family, and now you're trying to twist the situation?" Justin cut her off before she could finish, hurling insults, "How well do you really know your daughter? Her character? Is her idea of character beating me up just to vent your frustrations?"

Maria was taken aback.

"What are you talking about? When did Thalassa hit you?"

"Don't play dumb, you think I gave myself this head injury? Running to Chris, running to Thalassa, and that very night I was beaten half to death by thugs. If it wasn't Thalassa's doing, was it perhaps my dear brother Charles?"

"I didn't go to her," Maria quickly responded. "It must've been Chris who told her! Dear, how are you now? How badly are you hurt? Where are you? I will come and take care of you right away!"

"Don't bother," Justin replied with utter disdain.

One of Maria’s sensitive nerves were ruthlessly struck.

"You don't need me? Who do you need then, your mistress?"

She thought Justin might offer some explanation.

"Yes! Being with her, there's no pressure, it's like heaven on earth, I want to do something, and she obediently complies, unlike you, like a plank of wood in bed, completely unromantic!"

Maria's hands, uncontrollably trembling.

A wave of immense fear and helplessness enveloped her.

Her voice trembled as she spoke, "Dear, please don't say that, I can change... you..."

"That's enough, you're wasting your breath. Better hurry and raise money for your family," Justin said impatiently.

"All my money went to you, where would I get more?" Maria cried. "Justin, after all these years, I've given you so much, and now you're treating me like this—even my daughter doesn't want me!"

"You're out of money, but you still have the house, don't you?" Justin sneered,\. "If you don't want them going to Thalassa, then sell the house. That should cover some of the debt."

Maria was stunned.

That house was what Thalassa had left her for her golden years.

She had already given all her money to Justin, and even sold the house to pay off his debts. Now he was cheating and not coming home.
This continued situation would leave her with no way to survive in her later years.

A fury like never before surged to the crown of her head. "Justin, you despicable man!"

On the other end, before Justin could say a word, Maria heard a soft, cooing voice.

“Honey, is the bath ready? I feel so sticky, come pick me up and take me to shower!“

"Coming!"

Justin didn’t say anything else. He simply hung up the call.

Maria collapsed onto the floor.

All she could think about was that woman’s sultry voice.
So early in the morning. What had they done? Why did they need a shower? Justin was her husband! What right did that slut, that mistress, have?!

Maria felt like she was losing her mind.

After Charles was admitted to the hospital, he immediately underwent a series of tests to confirm if he was ready for a transplant.

The results showed that all the conditions were right. What followed was out of Fiona's and Darwin's hands; all that was left was to wait for the bone marrow collection, the transplant, and a lengthy observation period that would take about a month.

On the day before the transplant, Janna rushed back, travel-weary but eager.
When Chicago heard that Janna would be coming back, she was overjoyed and insisted on going to the airport with her dad to pick up Janna.

At the airport, Chicago was impatiently waiting. When Janna and her entourage finally appeared, pushing their luggage, Chicago immediately rushed over.

"Oh, my precious baby!" Janna opened her arms and hugged Chicago. "Have you grown taller? You seem stronger too!"

Chicago nodded. “I grew two centimeters.“

While speaking, she scanned the people Janna had brought with her. Her smile slowly faded.

“Where is Uncle Stuart?“ Chicago looked at Janna, her brow furrowed in concern.

Janna was taken aback.

Seeing this, Darwin scooped Chicago up from Janna's arms.

"Uncle Stuart hasn't finished his tasks, so this time he couldn't come with Grandma," Darwin explained.

Chicago, however, directed her gaze towards the end of the corridor, harboring a faint hope that perhaps the adults were engaging in a playful prank. She half-expected Stuart to emerge suddenly and surprise her. Yet, as seconds ticked by—one, two, three—without any sign of him, a hint of disappointment tinged with sadness crept into Chicago's eyes, causing them to redden slightly.

She turned and buried her head in Darwin's neck. "I am tired, I want to go home."

Darwin and Janna shared a knowing glance.

They understood each other without a word.

On the way back home, Chicago was silent throughout the ride.

Small in stature, but not foolish.

Stuart had been out of contact for so long.

Chicago, with her keen senses, couldn’t have been completely unaware.

The group started by dropping off their luggage at home.

Then, they headed to the hospital together.

They stayed there late into the night.

Until it was time for Chicago to say goodbye to her brother and head back.

She had been holding back her emotions all day, and upon hearing that she had to part from her brother, the floodgates opened.

"Charles, you won't disappear like Uncle Stuart, will you?" she asked, looking at Charles with large teardrops rolling down, "You can't, okay? It would hurt my heart, and it would be very scary. You won't, right?"

The sudden breakdown from Chicago caught everyone off guard.
Charles quickly hugged his sister. "Of course not, Chicago don't be afraid, Mommy will bring you to visit me in a few days."
