Chapter 650 The Gift
The results of the entrance exam were announced on the same day she took the exam. Charlotte passed the entrance exam smoothly, which came as no surprise to her.
The principal accompanied her and Fiona outside, with a happy expression on his face. "Charlotte is a promising student. You must study hard and aim to surpass Charles, your younger brother. Aim for the top of the grade. At the same time, lend a hand to Chicago!"
Charlotte nodded in acknowledgment.
"The acceptance letters will be delivered to you in the next few days. Be sure to report on time next semester!"
"Thank you, Principal," Fiona replied politely.
"There's no need to thank me. By the way, Ethan went to teach at Chicago today, right?"
"Yes." Fiona nodded. "Charles just told me that Ethan is a great teacher, and Chicago is very attentive in his studies."
"That's good to hear! Ethan is quite good at explaining problems. His classmates often prefer to ask him questions instead of the teachers, saying that he is more efficient!"
"If that's the case, I'm even more excited. Chicago aspires to be in the top 100 next semester."
"Well done! Chicago has ambition!" The principal gave a thumbs-up upon hearing this.
There were more wealthy kids in the school, not just this one family.
However, some of these kids behaved like arrogant brats due to their wealthy backgrounds.
Wasn't the one who was crying after being beaten up by Chicago last time?
Therefore, the principal was delighted to encounter wealthy second-generation individuals who were motivated.
After leaving the school, Charlotte returned to Emerald Pool.
She couldn't wait to run back and tell Christopher about passing the entrance exam.
Xavier and the others were all waiting for news.
They heard that Charlotte had been accepted.
The room full of strong men immediately cheered and raised their arms in excitement.
"I knew it!" Christopher exclaimed happily, cracking a smile.
He immediately pulled out a delivery box and handed it to Charlotte. "Your acceptance gift!"
Charlotte took the delivery box.
She shook it, and her eyes lit up. In the astonished gazes of her uncles, she forcefully tore open the delivery box.
Inside was an intricately patterned item that looked like a dagger.
"My dagger!" Charlotte exclaimed joyfully.
She immediately fastened it onto her wrist.
Seeing Charlotte so happy, everyone else couldn't help but smile.
Mike also took out the gift he had prepared for her, a pair of white noise-canceling headphones. "I see that your headphones are already outdated. With these, you won't have to worry about us disturbing you while studying!" Mike handed the headphones to Charlotte. Charlotte took them and said seriously, "Thank you, Mike."
"I also have a gift for you!" Xavier said, taking out an iPad and handing it to Charlotte. "I heard that kids nowadays use high-tech, paperless devices for school. So, Charlotte, you have to keep up, right?"
"Thank you, Xavier." Charlotte also accepted the gift.
The others also brought their prepared gifts. While the gifts were not expensive, they all believed that these gifts would help Charlotte with her studies. Some people found that the useful gifts had already been given by others, so they could only give red envelopes. Charlotte accepted all of them.
After everyone got busy, only Charlotte and Christopher remained in the room. "This is the first time someone other than my father has given me a gift," Charlotte looked at those things, and her usually calm eyes suddenly became sparkling. Christopher, seeing this, felt his eyes welling up. Look, his Charlotte was just a normal little girl. This was the kind of reaction one should have when receiving gifts!
"Charlotte, you are smart and beautiful, and everyone likes you very much!" Christopher said affectionately. Charlotte thought for a moment and said, "But when it comes to practice, I still won't show mercy!" Christopher couldn't help but laugh or cry.
"Father." Charlotte looked at Christopher, raised her arm, and rarely showed a bright smile. She patted her little arm and said, "I still like the one you gave me the most!"
It was almost identical to the one she had carried with her since she was a child. Charlotte was very sad when she lost it. Christopher looked at Charlotte, feeling grateful not only to Fiona but also to Fiona. He had come to assassinate her child, after all. But in the end, Fiona didn't punish him, instead, she helped him bring Charlotte out of the abyss.
From now on, Charlotte would simply be an ordinary elementary school student. Every day, in her clever little mind, she would think about how to solve today's math problems, how to write certain words, and how to understand complex sentences. No longer would she have to hide and wonder if someone passing by was a spy from the organization, or how to escape to save her life.
"Charlotte, I will work very hard in the future. When I save enough money, I will buy a house that you like. Then we will have our own home!" Christopher stroked Charlotte's head and choked, speaking in a determined tone.
Charlotte looked at him and asked, "Do you want to buy a house?"
She had a lot, a lot, a lot of money here to give back to the kind lady who helped her.
But she didn't need the money.
If her father liked a house, she could buy it for him.
"You can buy a house, but I still want to live here," Charlotte continued.
Christopher was taken aback.
"Do you like this mansion?"
"Mansion?" Charlotte shook her head. "If I don't live here, how can I protect Fiona's children all the time?"
Christopher was startled.
"You don't know. Those two children are very fragile. Chicago seems a bit foolish. The first time we met, she considered me part of the family," Charlotte said solemnly. "Father said that people who easily trust others are more likely to get into danger."
Christopher couldn't help but cry and laugh.
"Charlotte, they have a lot of people protecting them, they don't need you. Just focus on your studies, Father will protect them!"
"I can do it too." Charlotte insisted firmly.
Charlotte understood that she needed to prove her worth here. Being a student who did nothing held no value.
Moreover, Charlotte had grown fond of Chicago. Chicago seemed delicate, like porcelain, easily breakable.
So Charlotte made it her mission to protect Chicago.
She wouldn't let her break.
"Alright." Christopher didn't force her.
While they were talking, someone knocked on the door.
Christopher went to open the door and saw Stuart, who rarely came over, standing outside.
"Was Fiona searching for me?" Christopher asked.
"A gift." Stuart handed a box with Disney princesses printed on it to Christopher, then looked at Charlotte. "Congratulations on starting school."
Both Charlotte and Christopher were a little puzzled.
After all, Stuart hadn't paid any attention to them since the incident with the seed.
"Thank you, Uncle Stuart," Charlotte spoke up.
Christopher looked at Charlotte in astonishment.
Thinking about Mike, even with threats and incentives, Charlotte refused to call him "uncle."
Stuart nodded in response and prepared to leave.
After taking a few steps, he turned back to Charlotte. "Would you like to spar?"
Charlotte's eyes brightened instantly.
Charlotte had been thinking about this for a long time. On that day, in just a few moves, Charlotte could feel that Stuart was very strong!
Without hesitation, Charlotte rushed forward and launched an attack. This time, Stuart not only defended but also initiated a small offensive of his own. They exchanged twelve moves, and ultimately, Stuart managed to pin Charlotte's neck, pressing her against the wall, resulting in Charlotte's defeat once again.
