Chapter 1142

Some rich folks liked to stash their side pieces at their parents' crib.

They'd use the old "visiting the folks" excuse to sneak off on dates.

As Fiona was heading out, Mike and Stuart scooped up the kids and brought 'em home.

"Are my mom and dad back from work yet?" Chicago asked Lyold when she didn't see Fiona and Darwin around.

Lyold, sensing something was fishy, replied, "Nah, they called and said they won't be back for dinner. They told you to eat, do your homework, and hit the sack without waiting for them. Chicago, Charles, I whipped up your favorite dessert. Come to the dining room!"

Stuart noticed Lyold's weird vibe and got suspicious.

He shot Fiona a message.

Stuart: [Chelsea, you not coming back for dinner?]

Fiona called back pretty quick.

Stuart picked up in a flash.

Fiona said, "Stuart, I got some errands. I'll be back late. Make sure Charles and Chicago hit the hay early."

Stuart nodded. "Got it."

Fiona's voice sounded chill, so Stuart figured Lyold just messed something up.

The car zoomed down the highway.

Fiona didn't really know where Anniston's old crib was.

Anniston was born in Bay City and grew up overseas. Fiona's grandparents used to visit, but after they passed, she hadn't been back.

Why did Darwin rush there in the morning?

And why did he end up at the police station?

Why did he call Xavier?

Xavier had left about ten minutes before Fiona, worried and speeding to the spot.

By now, it was pitch dark.

The weather had been trash lately, with sudden heavy rain in the evenings.

Xavier found an umbrella and Darwin's spare clothes in the car before hustling into the small police station.

The officer on duty, seeing Xavier in a sharp suit, knew why he was there and led him inside.

Xavier saw Darwin on a bench, looking all disheveled and dirty.

"Mr. Solomon!" Xavier didn't recognize him at first.

Darwin looked up and then went to change his clothes.

The officer grumbled to Xavier, "Your boss is something else. He'd rather sit in wet clothes than change into the ones we gave him."

"What happened?" Xavier asked, "How did my boss end up like this?"

"He acted like a hero," the officer said. "He saw someone abusing a kid and beat up the abuser. The abuser is now seriously hurt in the hospital, so it might be a tough situation."

"What?" Xavier was shocked. "Then why is he all wet?"

"I don't know. He didn't tell me," the officer replied.

Darwin came out in fresh clothes.

Xavier handed over his business card. "If they want compensation, call me."
