Chapter 1221

Fiona walked up and gently took chubby little Melissa from Ashton, giving her a soft kiss on the cheek.

"Why'd you bring her to the hospital?" Fiona asked, sounding a bit annoyed.

"Melissa wanted to come; she missed you!" Ashton replied with a grin, poking Melissa's chubby cheek. "Isn't that right, Melissa?"

Melissa, too young to talk, just drooled and made some cute noises, smiling at Ashton.

"See, she says yes!" Ashton laughed.

Fiona gently stroked Melissa's back. "Charles and Chicago didn't notice anything, right?" She had told them she had urgent work with Darwin.

"Nope," Ashton shook his head. "Chicago even said you were enjoying some alone time."

Fiona gave a small, bitter smile and looked down.

The night was getting chilly, so Fiona didn't let Melissa stay outside too long. She had Kenny take her back to the car.

She and Ashton then went for a walk, arm in arm.

"How's he doing?" Ashton asked.

"He's doing okay," Fiona replied. "But he keeps wanting to go back."

"Kenny said he needs to be admitted for treatment," Ashton said, worried. "Will Darwin agree?"

"He doesn't need to," Fiona said calmly.

Ashton looked surprised. "You're gonna force him into treatment?"

"Yes," Fiona said. "I'll talk to him first. If he doesn't listen, I'll use my rights as his wife to make him go."

"Seems like the only way," Ashton said, holding Fiona's hand. "Do what you need to do. Kenny and I are here for you."

Fiona smiled at Ashton. "Don't worry, it's not that serious."

"True," Ashton said. "You've been through so much over the years."

Fiona nodded. "Alright, you need to rest. There are people here to help. You and Kenny should go back. Don't come tomorrow either. After some of his test results come out, I'll bring him home."

"Bring him home?" Ashton was surprised. "Aren't you gonna force him into treatment?"

"I promised him, Charles, and Chicago we'd go camping as a family again. Everything's ready, so I want to do that before he gets admitted," Fiona explained.

"But what if his condition flares up? He could hurt you!" Ashton was worried.

"Hubert has medication, enough for two days," Fiona said.

Ashton still looked concerned, but he knew Hubert was capable and trusted the medication.

"Alright," Ashton nodded. "I'll take Melissa back and wait for you tomorrow."

"Okay," Fiona said, patting Ashton's head. "By the way, how's Burl?"

Ashton sighed. "He's locked himself in his room all day."

"Hasn't eaten?"

"Lloyd said he took a lot of food upstairs before locking himself in."

Fiona smiled. "Yeah, Burl never lets himself go hungry."

When Burl's grandfather passed away, he held onto Burl and reminded him, "Burl, you must eat well every day."

"Don't worry, Burl's smart. He's just in a tough spot. He'll be fine once he figures it out," Ashton said softly.

"Okay," Fiona said, seeing Ashton off to the car.

Before the car started, the window rolled down, and Ashton, holding Melissa's tiny hand, waved to Fiona.

Fiona smiled and waved back.

After they left, the night seemed to fully settle in.
