Chapter 208 Something's Not Right With The Golden Retriever!

"Grandma, once you're settled with the hospital transfer, I'll come to visit you," Kenny said gently.

"Alright," Grandma Carey was looking at Kenny with great satisfaction.

With his good looks, gentle demeanor, and a decent family background, he would make an excellent husband, provided his character was without fault.

Ashton, in a frantic rush, escorted Kenny out of the ward.

"There's no need," stopped in his tracks.

"Okay, Kenny, thanks for today," Ashton said with a professional smile still on her face.

Kenny gave her a look, his gaze enigmatic, "You're welcome. Have you decided what the treat is?"

Ashton was taken aback.

In the next instant, she remembered that she had, in passing, mentioned she would treat Kenny to a meal.

"What would Kenny like to eat?" Ashton asked, with a smiling face.

Internally, however, she was panicking.

Something was off with this Kenny.

Definitely off!

"Anything really…" Kenny said and nodded with a smile.

Ashton thought he would leave now.

But unexpectedly, Kenny raised his hand and gently tucked a loose strand of her hair behind her ear.

His warm fingertips lightly brushed her cheek.

"Ashton, next time someone does something you dislike, you can confidently hit back. Someone has your back."

Ashton was slightly stunned.

Kenny smiled, lifted his hand, bent his index finger and lightly tapped her forehead.

"I'm off."

Kenny then stopped dawdling, turned around, and strode away swiftly.

Ashton stood there, touching her forehead, suddenly realizing what had just happened.

What was Kenny up to?

Could it be that he was interested in her?

Ashton pondered for a moment.

It didn't seem like a bad thing.

After all, wouldn't this make it easier for her to acquire that piece of land at a lower price?

Ashton then nodded in approval of her own idea, as if acknowledging that it was indeed a good one.

An opportunity like this landing in your lap and not taking advantage of it would be a huge loss.

Of course, once the land deal was done, she planned to turn him away and act as if nothing had happened.

Kenny had mentioned he was 23? Six years younger than! She felt like she would be dating someone too young, almost like raising a child.

That's what Ashton thought as she turned to head back.

But as she turned around, she saw Chris and Alice standing not far away.

She put on a cold face, retracted her gaze, and didn't plan to pay them any heed.

"Was that man Ashton's boyfriend?" Alice asked Chris.

Chris looked very upset.

Alice was startled.

"Chris?" she tugged at his sleeve.

Chris finally turned his gaze back to her. "Hmm?"

"I just asked if that man was Ashton's boyfriend," Alice repeated the question.

Chris replied coldly, "No."

"I thought Ashton was in a relationship," Alice murmured. "Auntie has always been quite worried about Ashton's personal life. If that gentleman was Ashton's boyfriend, Auntie would have been very pleased."

Chris's lips were pressed thinly together, not continuing the conversation.

He had just seen that man intimately help her with her hair and Ashton had not pulled away...

Chris was seething with anger.

"Ashton still looked very angry, and I had no idea what she might do next," said Alice with a worried expression. "My mom just called, and I haven't told her about this yet..."

"There's no surveillance footage to worry about, so don't worry," Chris quickly returned to his usual demeanor.

Alice responded, "Chris, I'm so glad you're here with me to handle this. Otherwise... I really wouldn't know what to do."

"We're about to get married, and your grandmother is my grandmother too. There's no need for such words," Chris took her hand. "However, Grandma can't keep living here."

Alice looked at Chris. Perhaps she had been mistaken just now. Chris and Ashton... how could that be possible? It was unlikely there was any connection between Ashton and Chris.

"I'm also worried about this. The hospital said that Grandma's condition is no longer suitable for staying here," Alice's eyes reddened.

Chris's thumb gently caressed the back of her hand. "I guess other hospitals probably wouldn't dare to take her, Alice. Maybe we should send Grandma to a special care facility for the elderly?"

"That kind of place?" Alice looked concerned.

"I have friends who work with those facilities. If you trust me, let me make the arrangements," said Chris gently.

"Of course, I trust you," Alice, linking her arm with his, said, "Chris, thank you."

Chris smiled tenderly.

Soon, Ashton came out with the caretaker, pushing Grandma Carey's wheelchair. Chris was just about to take Alice away when they bumped into each other unexpectedly.

"I'm so sorry, Grandma Carey..." Alice began to approach.

Fiona laughed, "Miss Alice, why do you have two faces? Didn't you just blame our grandmother for provoking yours, which led to her injuring her head?"

"Why stir things up after everything that has happened?" Chris asked with a serious tone.

"Is telling the truth now considered causing trouble?" Ashton asked mockingly.

Chris looked at her with a stern face. Ashton used to be afraid of him when he looked like that. But things were different now.

Ashton still loved Chris. But whether she could have him was no longer her obsession.

"Ashton, we're going to be family soon, amongst family..." Chris started.

"Shut up!" Ashton cut off Alice.

Grandma Carey looked confused, "Family? Who is this?"

She recognized Alice and her gaze fell on Chris. Alice saw that Grandma Carey had a kind face. She seemed like a soft-hearted person.

Hastily, she replied, "Grandma Carey, this is my fiancé Chris, also the eldest son of Ashton's stepfather."

"Shut up!" Ashton was losing her mind, charging forward, ready to confront Alice physically.

With a startled cry, Alice hid behind Chris.

Almost reflexively, Chris blocked Ashton.

The move sent Ashton stumbling fiercely.

She fell, looking at Chris in disbelief.

Chris, too, was taken aback.

"Ashton..." he quickly stepped forward, "That was an accident!"

But Ashton's slap was already on its way, striking hard.

"My God! Chris!" Alice cried out, hurrying over, "Ashton! Are you out of your mind? He's your brother!"

"Brother?" Ashton looked at Chris, her laugh filled with scorn.

Chris's brows were furrowed, fearing that any second Ashton would spill their secret.

However, that didn't happen but Chris felt even worse.

"From now on, we'll never be family again." Ashton declared to Chris, "Starting today, you and I have no connection whatsoever."

With that, Ashton, with Fiona's help, assisted Grandma Carey into the car.
