Chapter 83 She's Yours
Eric was totally caught off guard.
Fiona shoved him away and stormed off.
Eric got his balance back and sprinted after her. "I'm not dirty, I'm clean!"
"I mean your love life is filthy," Fiona shot back, giving a dirty look at a certain part of Eric's fancy suit pants. "You sleep around with any woman. Isn't that gross?"
Eric stopped for a sec, getting what she meant.
His face turned dark. "And you're any better? I've heard Darwin treats you like a piece of meat, even saying at parties that anyone who wants you can have you for fun!"
Fiona's heart skipped a beat.
She knew about that.
In fact, she was there when it happened.
That was like three years ago.
Darwin had just wrapped up a deal with some coal industry big shot, in a setting kinda like tonight.
That guy was a total creep.
For days, his eyes were glued to her, and calling his stare hungry would be putting it lightly.
That night, he had one too many drinks and let his true colors show. "Mr. Solomon, your secretary is perfect. I've been with many women, but I've never met one like her!"
Darwin was sitting across from him.
He glanced at Fiona and suddenly grinned. "You like her?"
"Of course!"
Among these guys, swapping women was no big deal.
Fiona had just seen one of these swaps go down recently.
That boss was fat and greasy, with yellow teeth that made him look totally gross.
Fiona was scared out of her mind.
For the first time, she broke protocol and grabbed Darwin's hand under the table.
The next second, she heard Darwin say, "If you like her, she's yours."
Fiona was stunned and slowly let go of Darwin's hand.
That fat, greasy guy's smile at that moment still haunted Fiona to this day.
He immediately stood up, his jiggling fat trembling, and ran towards her.
Just when Fiona thought she was done for, Darwin grabbed a bottle of red wine brought in by a waiter and smashed it over the guy's head before the guy could touch her.
Red wine splattered onto Fiona's face.
The guy clutched his head and fell to the ground, wailing.
The previously chill atmosphere at the table instantly turned ice-cold.
"Mr. Solomon, why?" the boss asked, clutching his head and wailing.
Darwin took a hot towel from the table and wiped the red wine off Fiona's face, his eyes downcast.
Henry chimed in, "Idiot, you should be grateful to even have the chance to work with the Solomon Group. How dare you lust after Mr. Solomon's secretary? Who do you think you are?"
Fiona snapped back to reality and looked at Darwin.
When she met Darwin's gaze, there was no comfort in it, just the usual coldness.
Later, that contract was naturally voided.
The boss was also ruined.
Half a month later, he was found dead in a hotel bathtub, having drowned after slipping in while drunk.
Because he died suddenly and left no will, his mistresses, along with their kids and his nieces and nephews, fought bitterly over his estate.
Darwin took the opportunity to acquire two of his mines from his legal wife.
Indirectly, the previously voided business deal was still carried out.
But this time, it wasn't a partnership; it was fully funded by Darwin.
Fiona snapped out of her thoughts.
She shot Eric a cold look. "Well then, Mr. Porter, why don't you go straight to Mr. Solomon and ask for me? Good luck with that."
Tonight, Eric was supposed to be the star of the show.
After that gross encounter, Fiona had zero interest in going back to hang with Darwin.
She shot Darwin a text and grabbed a cab home.
Just as she got in the car, Darwin called.
Fiona hesitated for a sec.
Had Eric already talked to Darwin?
She picked up, "Mr. Solomon."
"Where are you?" Darwin asked.
"In the car," Fiona replied.
"Feeling sick?" Darwin pressed.
Fiona wanted to say she was fine.
But she didn't want to piss Darwin off.
"Headache," Fiona mumbled, "Mr. Solomon, you go ahead with your socializing. I'll just go home and sleep it off."
"Got any meds at home?" Darwin asked.
"Yeah," Fiona answered.
The image of Darwin gently wiping the red wine off her face years ago kept replaying in her mind.
"I'll come back as soon as I can." Darwin's tone softened a bit.
Fiona wanted to say, 'Go back to your own place! Stop bugging me.'
But she didn't.
After hanging up, the car radio was blaring the news.
A rich guy had died two hours ago in a private plane crash, with no remains left because of a massive explosion.
Fiona listened. 'No remains?'
She sat up a bit straighter.
Maybe she could stage an explosion too.
But how to make it convincing and make Darwin buy it?
She fell into deep thought.
Back at her apartment, Fiona took a long, hot shower.
Tomorrow, the company was holding a meeting about the energy company.
After drying her hair, Fiona went to the study to prep the materials needed for the meeting.
She also organized the list of candidates for the Atlas energy company president.
She had been resting for over half a month, and with her pregnancy, she felt super lazy.
After organizing the materials, she didn't feel like moving. She stretched and curled up in the study's recliner.
She meant to take a short nap but ended up crashing hard.
When Darwin got back, the living room was pitch dark.
His heart skipped a beat, and he hurriedly walked towards the bedroom without even taking off his shoes.
The bedroom was also pitch dark.
He flipped on the light, and the bed was empty.
A wave of panic washed over him.
Had she run away?
Darwin immediately called Fiona.
Coincidentally, the mechanical voice on the other line said the phone was turned off.
Darwin was totally freaked out.
Just as he was about to call someone to search for her, he noticed a light coming from the slightly ajar study door.
Darwin quickly went over, carefully pushing the door open.
He saw a figure on the recliner. A phone lay on the carpet next to the recliner.
Seeing this, Darwin felt a sudden sense of relief.
He went back to the entrance, took off his shoes and coat, and returned to the study, gently picking Fiona up.
Fiona groggily woke up.
Seeing it was Darwin, she instinctively, unconsciously nuzzled his neck. "You're back?"
Just like before, her voice was soft and sweet.
Darwin's arms tightened around her.
"Yeah, I'm back," he gently replied.
Fiona was super sleepy.
She just nodded, buried her head in Darwin's chest, and fell back into a deep sleep.
In just a few minutes, Darwin's emotions went on a rollercoaster.
