Chapter 1480
That slap was barely more than a touch.
Charles didn't get angry.
But his face stayed cold.
"She said it."
Chicago started biting her fingers again. Wait, four years ago.
"When did you two break up?" Chicago asked, frowning.
"Right after Jessie died."
Chicago covered her mouth.
"What is it?" Charles asked in a deep voice.
He knew exactly what that expression on Chicago's face meant.
It was like she had suddenly realized something.
"Nothing!" Chicago's hands dropped to her sides, her mind racing. "Charles, have you seen Charlotte since the breakup? Have you talked to her?"
"Is it necessary?"
"You!" Chicago was exasperated.
She remembered Charlotte's sad eyes just moments ago, saying not everyone found love.
"What do you think now?" Chicago asked seriously.
Charles looked at her.
They stared at each other for a long time.
"Chicago!"
Brady's voice came from the side.
Chicago was speechless.
"Go on," Charles said softly.
"Charles, I think there's a misunderstanding between you two. If you still care about Charlotte, put aside your pride and find out what happened back then!" Chicago paused. "Charles, you should know what kind of life Charlotte had before she came to our family. She cherished us deeply; she would give her life for us. How could she just play around with you?"
With that, Chicago didn't stay to hear Charles's response.
She turned and walked towards Brady.
"Where did you go? I've been looking for you forever, and you didn't even reply on Facebook!" Brady was still chubby, but he looked kind, reliable, and good-natured.
"Charlotte's getting married, I'm heartbroken, feeling down." Chicago was joking.
But suddenly, she snapped back to reality.
She immediately looked in Charles's direction, but he was already gone.
No, the pain, the sadness, and the frustration she felt were Charles's emotions!
Brady chuckled and shook his head. "By the way, I wanted to ask you something."
"What?" Chicago withdrew her gaze, feeling a mix of emotions.
"All these years, have you seen Ethan?" Sixteen years later, someone mentioned Ethan in front of Chicago again.
The last person to bring up Ethan was also Brady.
"No," Chicago shook her head, then asked, "Why bring him up suddenly? Have you seen him?"
"Not sure," Brady's eyes darkened slightly. "You know I'm working with Burl now, right? Last month, we went to Azure Bay. Did you know Wholesome Corporation has a really impressive new guy?"
Chicago nodded.
"I saw him!" Brady's voice lowered. "Even though it was just a glance from afar, I thought he looked a bit like Ethan!"
Saying that, Brady took out his phone and found a blurry photo.
It was a grand banquet hall, with a fountain, a champagne tower, and sparkling lights.
A tall man in a white suit held a wine glass loosely, his eyes downcast, smiling politely.
In Chicago's mind, memories of Ethan's cold, distant gaze resurfaced.
Slowly, the image of the handsome man in the photo overlapped with her memories.
"See! Look at the red mole by his eye!" Brady zoomed in on the photo.
The so-called red mole.
It could just as easily be a pixel.
