Chapter 594 Little Savior
Chicago, who had remained silent the whole time, suddenly clung to Fiona and burst into tears. Fiona's heart shattered at the sight. She looked at Lilian, who was still being restrained and was filled with murderous intent. "Mike, don't let her escape!" Fiona said coldly before they got into the car.
"Yes!" Mike replied.
Back in the car, Darwin's eyes were red, filled with worry for Chicago, fear, and above all, panic. Although Chicago played with him now and treated him well, she still refused to call him dad. She had seen Lilian before and even mistakenly believed that Lilian was his girlfriend. And just now, Lilian had been spewing nonsense in front of her...
"Chicago, can you let Daddy hold you?" Fiona glanced at Darwin, her voice gentle as she negotiated with Chicago.
Chicago continued to sob but turned her head to look at Darwin.
Darwin's throat tightened as he tried to explain, "Babe, she was lying..."
"I… I know!" Chicago sobbed, her voice choked with emotion. "She's… she's a bad aunt, I know!"
"Indeed, we foiled Auntie's nefarious scheme and rescued Dad!" Fiona interjected dramatically. "Dad remains unaware. Should Chicago enlighten him?"
"Okay," Chicago sniffled, reaching out toward Darwin.
With a sense of relief, Darwin embraced Chicago tenderly, his heart finally finding peace amidst the turmoil. Yet, the wound on his neck continued to bleed, a poignant reminder of their harrowing ordeal.
As tears welled up in his eyes, Darwin inquired, "Sweetheart, what did the bad person do? When did this happen? Why didn't Dad know?"
"It happened at the art exhibition!" Chicago recounted between sobs. "Mommy wouldn't let me dine with the handsome uncle. When I searched for you, I overheard Auntie's wicked plans to have a baby and harm you!"
The art exhibition…
"You were in such a hurry to take Dad away because you were afraid I would fall for it, right?" Darwin asked.
"Yeah!" Chicago nodded.
The incident deeply affected the child, leaving Chicago still gripped by fear. Clinging tightly to Darwin's neck, she sobbed uncontrollably.
Unable to contain his own emotions any longer, Darwin wept alongside her.
As for Lilian, thoughts of Southeast Asia or any other location faded as resentment boiled within; she seemed destined for hell.
"Is the baby in Auntie's belly going to be my little brother?" Chicago's voice broke through the silence, her distress palpable.
"No, sweetheart! That's not Dad's child. Auntie lied," Darwin reassured fervently.
With a nod, Chicago settled back, her tears unabated.
Meanwhile, Stuart's anxiety mounted, urging the driver to hasten their journey.
"Incidentally, who rescued Chicago?" Fiona redirected her attention.
As for the scene of the incident, the school security swiftly dispersed the onlookers, leaving behind only whispers of the turmoil that had unfolded.
Thalassa and Kenny stood motionless, their gazes gentle as they observed the boy standing before them. He appeared to be about seven or eight years old, with unruly hair and a school uniform that seemed slightly disheveled. In his hand, he clenched a slingshot defiantly, his eyes meeting theirs with a mixture of determination and defiance.
The principal's voice broke the silence, stern and disapproving. "Ethan Alexander, why did you bring a slingshot to school again?"
Ethan's response was sharp, his tone unyielding as he avoided meeting the principal's eyes. "If I hadn't brought it, that little brat would have been in trouble!"
The principal was momentarily taken aback by Ethan's retort, his shock evident in his expression.
Thalassa's voice cut through the tension, soft and appreciative. "Kid, thank you. Can you provide me with your parents' contact information? You saved our little sister, and we want to express our gratitude properly."
Ethan's brow furrowed in thought, a hint of reluctance in his expression.
Meanwhile, the principal's demeanor shifted, his features reflecting a mix of surprise and discomfort. "They are no longer with us. There's no need to thank me," Ethan replied tersely, adjusting his backpack and turning away without a second glance.
"Ethan!" the principal called out, but the boy continued to walk away, his steps resolute.
Thalassa exchanged a perplexed glance with Kenny, uncertainty flickering in her eyes.
"It's all right. We can ask the teacher," Kenny reassured her gently, his voice calm and steady.
The principal, feeling slightly flustered, hesitated before speaking. "Um... both of his parents have passed away."
Thalassa was taken aback. "So, he doesn't have any close kin?"
"No..."
"No guardians?" Thalassa was shocked.
"Not really," the principal began cautiously. "There was a small house nearby, but I heard his aunt and her family moved in..." Pausing, the principal considered Chicago's background. If only Ethan could receive assistance from Chicago's parents.
"Oh, I see..." Thalassa frowned. "No wonder he looks like a slacker. It's hard to study in that kind of environment..."
"Huh?" The principal was taken aback, then shook his head repeatedly. "He's a very good student, top of his class!"
Thalassa blinked in disbelief. "Really? But he brought a slingshot to school and spoke to you like that?"
The principal nodded emphatically. "Yes, he's a remarkable student, despite everything."
"Given his circumstances, we should offer our support however we can," Thalassa suggested, her tone decisive.
The principal nodded in agreement. "Yes, of course."
It was unexpected, but Ethan discovered an ally through his slingshot.
However, it was clear he couldn't continue bringing it to school. While it had been used against wrongdoers that day, there was no telling what might happen in the future.
After learning about the situation, Thalassa decided to reach out to Fiona.
He recounted the story of the boy who had saved her daughter in Chicago.
Fiona was equally astonished. The one who had come to her daughter's aid turned out to be a child.
After the phone call concluded, Kenny and Thalassa made their way to the hospital, the tension palpable in the air. Thalassa's frustrations boiled over, punctuating their journey with loud curses aimed at Lilian, whose actions had sparked the chaos they now found themselves engulfed in.
Upon arrival at the hospital, they found Chicago's wounds tended to, the bandages serving as physical reminders of the day's events. Exhaustion weighed heavily on her, tears spent, she sought solace in Darwin's embrace, finding temporary respite in sleep.
"Chicago, you've been wronged," Thalassa expressed her profound sympathy for her, her heart heavy with empathy.
Fiona, ever the pragmatist, directed her attention to the next course of action. "Take her home," she instructed Darwin and the others, her gaze firm. "I'm going to see Lilian."
"Don't go!" Darwin's immediate reaction was defensive, his concern for Fiona evident. "Don't see her, let her die."
"Killing is illegal," Fiona countered, meeting Darwin's gaze evenly. "We must handle this situation with caution to avoid further complications."
Darwin's brow furrowed in contemplation, weighing the gravity of Fiona's words against his own tumultuous emotions.
"It's Lilian's fault. I don't want us to bear the consequences, what happened today was a negligence on us. We won't give her another chance to repeat it," Fiona said seriously, "You've settled everything between you and her. Now it's time for me to deal with her."
Fiona harbored no illusions about the nature of their relationship with Lilian. Despite their shared history of playful antics, Lilian's recent actions left Fiona with no choice but to take a firm stance.
"I'll accompany you," Darwin offered, his protective instincts kicking in at the thought of Fiona facing Lilian alone. The image of Lilian, unhinged and wielding a knife, haunted his thoughts, igniting a fierce determination to shield Fiona from harm.
"She may anticipate our arrival, but I won't allow her to manipulate the situation," Fiona assured Darwin, her touch gentle as she reassured him. "I'll bring Mike and the others for added security."
Their conversation was interrupted by Chicago's sudden awakening, her distress evident as she reached out for Darwin, seeking comfort in his presence.
"Daddy's here, babe, don't be afraid, Daddy's here!" Darwin hurriedly comforted her.
Chicago looked pitifully at him, tears welling up in her eyes. She hugged his neck and timidly called out, "Daddy..." "
