Chapter 1475

"Enough."

Fiona stopped talking.

Charles grabbed the wine bottles and motioned for Fiona to go ahead.

From start to finish, he kept a cool, detached demeanor, showing no sign of concern or worry for Charlotte.

Fiona suddenly remembered.

The year Charlotte decided to skip a grade and take the entrance exam, Charles stayed up all night reviewing materials and organizing key study points for her.

So, growing up.

Did it change some things?

Chicago's bedroom.

As Chicago grew older, Darwin felt the old room was too small, so he decided to combine the two suites near Chicago's room on the second floor.

Now, Chicago's room was much larger than a typical three-bedroom apartment.

"Charlotte, I watched the documentary you guys made about searching for insects in the rainforest. I have to say, it was amazing! That voiceover was you, right? It was so soothing, I listen to it when I can't sleep!" Melissa looked at Charlotte with admiration. "Did you see the comments? So many people praised your beauty, saying you look like a forest fairy. It's spot on!"

Chicago sat in a swivel chair across from them, laughing and spinning. "Melissa, forget about marrying Charles; marry Charlotte instead. You've been like this since you were a kid, always drooling and trying to snuggle up to Charlotte."

"Sure, Charlotte, let's get married and move abroad!" Melissa said with a playful smile.

Her ears turned a bit red.

But it wasn't from proposing to Charlotte; it started when Chicago mentioned marrying Charles.

Charlotte chuckled. "Really? If you marry me, you'll have to follow me into the deep forests."

Melissa gently pressed her cheek against Charlotte's palm. "Then I won't marry you. I'm too pretty to risk being eaten by a tiger in the wilderness. I'd be all bloody and not pretty anymore!"

Chicago laughed. "Vain!"

They chatted and laughed for a while.

Charlotte's phone rang.

It was one of her students. After a brief conversation, Charlotte stood up.

"You guys keep chatting. I need to go downstairs and turn on my computer."

"Come back quickly. I'll pick out a dress for you!"

"Okay!" Charlotte gently pinched Melissa's chin and shook it playfully.

She squeezed Chicago's hand before leaving.

Melissa watched Charlotte's back. "I don't know why, but I've always felt Charlotte is very melancholic. Even now, she seems sad."

Chicago pursed her lips and blinked her pretty eyes.

She suddenly remembered a time, she couldn't recall exactly when, she had secretly drunk some alcohol.

She ended up passing out in Jessie's old doghouse.

Jessie had just passed away not long before, and she missed him terribly.

She cried there for half the night.

When she stopped crying, she still heard sobbing.

Chicago thought she was seeing a ghost and was scared stiff. She clutched Jessie's leash and slowly crept out.

She saw Charlotte by the lake, hugging her knees and crying her heart out.

That was the first time Chicago saw Charlotte cry.

When Jessie died at the hospital, Charlotte's eyes only reddened.

The first time she saw her cry, it was this heart-wrenching sobbing.

Chicago, still drunk, crawled back into the doghouse. Seeing Charlotte cry made her even sadder, and she cried for another half the night.

"Could it be a breakup?" Chicago murmured.

"Who! Who dares!" Melissa immediately stood up.

Chicago was startled and quickly pulled her back down. "Can you not be so hasty!"

"Who dares! I'll kill them!" Melissa said, cupping her hands. "Charlotte is like the moon in the sky, okay? Anyone who dates her and doesn't treat her like a treasure is crazy and will be cursed!"

Chicago was speechless.

"I'm starting to get jealous!" Chicago crossed her arms.

Melissa was puzzled. "What?"

"You're treating me and Charlotte differently!" Chicago lifted her chin, clearly expecting to be consoled.
