Chapter 1369
After hearing Fiona out, Rose squinted her eyes, looking deep in thought.
Fiona wasn't sure if Rose got the full gist of what she was saying, but this was Rose's only shot, and Fiona was only giving it to her because of Marisole.
New Year's Eve was a blast.
Emerald Pool threw a fireworks show for everyone.
Charles and Chicago were all about it.
They were almost out cold but stayed up till midnight to catch the fireworks. Then, one in Fiona's arms and the other in Burl's, they finally crashed.
Back inside, Fiona and Burl took them to their rooms.
When Fiona came back downstairs, Rose was already settled in the guest room.
Wyatt came up from the wine cellar with a bottle of chilled wine and was sitting alone in the dimly lit living room, drinking.
Fiona walked over.
Wyatt poured half a glass and slid it over to Fiona.
"Mr. Durham, you're not getting any younger. Aren't you worried about drinking like this and not sleeping?" Fiona sat down.
Wyatt chuckled. "What's there to worry about? What's your deal?"
Fiona swirled the wine in her glass.
It wasn't her favorite, clearly something Wyatt had stashed away earlier.
"What?" she asked.
"Your secretary, why'd you bring her home?" Wyatt asked.
Fiona looked at Wyatt and shot back, "Why not?"
Wyatt said, "After our last meeting, I dug into some stuff about Marisole. Have you heard about your secretary's mom?"
"Stop beating around the bush, just spill it," Fiona said.
"I spent some time and found one of her old flames, Paul Rodriguez." Wyatt lowered his voice. "Paul didn't have many nice things to say about Odette. He kept calling her..."
"That control freak lunatic." Those were Paul's exact words.
Even though it had been years, Paul was now middle-aged and balding, but when he talked about Odette, he still looked scared.
When pressed for more details, Paul quickly spilled everything Odette had done back then.
They started off great.
Odette was super pretty and matured early, and a lot of guys were into her.
Paul had chased her for a long time before he finally got her.
They were almost always together, but after the initial thrill wore off, Odette's constant meddling made Paul feel restless.
By chance, he soon met Paula Garcia, a young woman selling beer at a bar. Paula was gorgeous, fun, and outgoing, way more exciting than Odette, who was strict and by-the-book.
So, he started pulling away from Odette.
A few days later, Odette confronted him at the bar entrance.
Paul was fed up and broke up with her.
Paul's face was terrified when he told Wyatt this part. He said, "I'll never forget the look on her face when I broke up with her and she stared straight at Paula behind me. It was chilling! Anyone who saw it would have nightmares!"
Even creepier, two days later, Paula drowned after getting drunk.
Paul was pretty upset, as they were still in the honeymoon phase, but soon the cops came knocking.
Paula had been with him before she drowned.
Her cause of death was reportedly strange and couldn't be entirely ruled as an accident.
