When Hubert was ten, he snuck back this home.
The place was a wreck since no one had lived there for ages.
So, he quietly used his savings to hire someone to fix up and clean the house. When he got there, it was all bright and tidy, with fresh flowers on the dining room table.
His eyes welled up.
He went to the living room, popped the memory card into the reader, and hooked it up to the computer.
In just a week, he learned all about the last ten years of Aldrich and Rebecca's lives from those memory cards.
He also found out about the beef between Aldrich and Brooke.
The Graham Family wasn't rich back in the day.
With a bunch of kids and him being the oldest, he had a lot on his plate.
The family's money barely covered the basics, making it tough for him to keep studying.
Hubert's grandma took a temp job for a while.
A rich lady from Armie, who was on a business trip and had a premature baby, needed an experienced Armie woman to take care of her postpartum.
Back then, a lot of folks hadn't even heard of postpartum care.
That rich lady was Brooke, and the preemie was Aiden.
Hubert's grandma was kind and attentive, didn't talk much, and Brooke liked her a lot.
One time, Brooke overheard Hubert's grandma crying. After asking around, she found out that her eldest son, who was a top student, planned to quit school to help with the family's expenses and work on a ship to make some money.
Since he was such a good student, the principal didn't want him to drop out and offered him a scholarship, hoping he'd stay in school.
But a scholarship wasn't enough to fix the family's money problems.
So, her eldest son still insisted on working on the ship.
Later, Brooke brought him over and asked why he wouldn't stick it out since he had a scholarship.
He said, "The higher you go in education, the more money you need. Instead of having high hopes from the start, it's better not to have any illusions from the beginning."
Eventually, Brooke sponsored Hubert's dad. To ease her worries, she gave Hubert's grandma two properties to manage, providing her with a good-paying and stable job. She also set up a job with good benefits for Hubert's grandpa.
With the extra income, the family's living conditions got way better.
Hubert's dad didn't let Brooke down. He got into the best university at the time with top grades. In college, he majored in psychology, and Brooke donated a research institute for him.
This let Aldrich focus entirely on his research without any worries.
Aldrich didn't let Brooke down either.
In ten years, he published dozens of authoritative papers and gained worldwide fame.
Around this time, Aldrich's dad, with Brooke's help, started a business, seized opportunities, and helped the Graham Family move up the social ladder.
Aldrich kept his head in his research.
It wasn't until he was thirty-five that he fell in love and married Rebecca, who had just joined the research institute.
