Chapter 510 I'd Rather Burn It Than Give It to You
"Thalassa, get control of your pretty boy! If something happens to Brad, I swear I'll fight you to the end!" Brad's wife screamed at Thalassa.
Thalassa snapped back to reality.
He quickly walked over and tugged at Kenny's arm. "Kenny."
Kenny gave her a glance.
Then, lifted his foot from Brad's face.
Brad scrambled to his feet, his wife immediately rushing over to check his injuries.
"My chest hurts like hell. He must've broken my ribs! Call the cops! Lock this pretty boy up, I'll show you crazy in jail!"
"What nonsense is he spouting?" Fiona scoffed. "Did anyone here see who laid a hand on him?"
The bodyguards that came with Mike immediately responded in unison, "Nobody saw anything!"
"Exactly, I didn't see anything either." Fiona looked toward Brad. "On the other hand, you all, looking fierce and hostile, tried to break into my home, posing a threat to my family and property."
"Don't you try to scare us, is this house yours? It clearly belongs to Thalassa!" Brad's wife started making a fuss. "Just because you say you didn't see anything that's supposed to be the end of it? There are cameras all over this neighborhood!"
"Cameras?" Fiona sneered. "The surrounding surveillance has been out of order for a while."
Brad and his group were at a loss.
Looking at each other, unsure what to do.
They didn’t dare to mess with Fiona and her group.
However, coming here today, getting beaten up and leaving without any money would be a huge loss of face.
"Thalassa, for the sake of our family ties, I'm giving you one last chance. Give me the money now, or I’ll make sure your pretty boy goes to prison."
Thalassa gripped Kenny’s hand tightly.
He gave Brad and his group a deep, silent look, then took out his phone.
Brad and his companions immediately showed signs of joy, with Brad's wife smugly saying, "That's more like it. We're all family here, and as your elders, there's no need for conflict..."
She was cut off before she could finish.
Thalassa dialed an urgent call. "Hello, I need to report a break-in attempt at my friend's house!"
"Thalassa!" Mrs. Brad screamed in panic.
Thalassa rapidly gave the address and hung up the phone.
"For the last time, I am not related to you people," Thalassa stated firmly, his gaze fixed on The Shaw family members who were being blocked by Mike and his crew. "You looked down on my dad and took advantage of him when he was alive. At his funeral, you had the audacity to speak ill of him and you never treated me with any decency. You belittled my father just to brown-nose Justin, and now that Justin has swindled you, you expect me to clean up his mess?"
"Justin raised you!" Brad exploded in anger. "Now that he's in trouble, you turn your back on him? You're a real ungrateful wretch!"
"Justin raised me?" Thalassa snorted with a disdainful laugh and rolled his eyes. "When my dad passed away, he left millions, which Justin squandered. The projects I've led for Justin have made him at least half a billion. Even the scraps you're feeding on fell from the deals I brought to him. I don't owe him a thing!"
Of course, The Shaw family didn't know any of this.
"You're that capable?" Mrs. Shaw said skeptically.
Another voice chimed in, "Thalassa, if you're so good at making money and millions are nothing to you, then just give us our money back."
Thalassa scoffed, "I'd rather burn my money than give you a penny."
That sent Brad into a rage, his chest ablaze with sharp, searing pain. He immediately doubled over, groaning in agony.
"Go home with Kenny now," Fiona spoke softly. "Chicago and Grandma are at your place."
"But what about this situation?"
"They are still related to your mother's side. It's best if you stay until the police arrive; otherwise, it may look bad," Fiona advised.
"Okay." Thalassa nodded and squeezed Kenny's hand. "Let's head home."
"You're not going anywhere!" Brad, seeing their intention to leave, tried to stop them.
Mike couldn't stand it anymore.
He signaled his men discreetly. When Brad lunged forward, Mike executed a professional protective move.
Grabbing Brad's arm, Mike performed a shoulder throw, slamming him hard onto the ground.
Brad wailed like a slaughtered pig.
"My husband!" Mrs. Brad shrieked as she rushed to his side.
Mike stood there; an impassive face clearly not typical of the locals.
His English suddenly became awkward "Sorry, I've warned you guys multiple times not to approach my boss. Sir, since you've threatened my boss's life, I had to intervene!"
Thalassa nearly burst into laughter.
Fiona also thought Mike was quite a character.
She shot Thalassa a look.
Thalassa dragged Kenny into the car.
"Still laughing?" Kenny drove off and seeing Thalassa smiling, felt a mix of amusement and helplessness.
He loved her easy-going nature.
However, sometimes, he thought she was a little too nice for her own good.
"Mike is that funny, isn’t he?" Thalassa teased, pinching the corners of her mouth. "Are you upset?"
"Yes," Kenny responded.
Indeed, knowledge alone does not always prepare one for the emotional impact of witnessing mistreatment firsthand.
Even though Kenny was already aware that nearly all the people close to Thalassa were villains, acknowledging it intellectually was one thing, while witnessing them trample and insult her without restraint was an entirely different experience.
"They can't hurt me anymore," Thalassa said, raising an eyebrow slightly. "But I didn't expect them to drag my treasure into this. How did they find this place?"
"Weren't they just saying they had bought you something?"
"Oh right!" Thalassa smacked her forehead. "The bamboo shoots! When I thought of the delicious bamboo shoots, I assumed it was Maria who bought them."
Thalassa couldn't bring herself to address Maria as mother.
However, she feared being struck by lightning if she called her by her first name.
After much deliberation, she decided to just refer to her as Maria from now on.
"It’s okay, we can nearly move back into my dad’s place," Kenny said soothingly. "My sister-in-law will handle it cleanly."
Fiona did handle it very cleanly.
All nine members of the Shaw Family who came got a seven-day tour of the detention center.
Since there was no surveillance footage available, Mike captured a video of them initially attempting to force their way in. Despite Brad's insistence that he was hit, without any evidence to support his claim, the matter simply faded away.
Monday arrived.
Charles's transplant surgery officially began.
For Fiona and Darwin, the day was agonizing.
Time seemed to stretch unbearably long.
"How long has it been?"
Thalassa checked the OR.
Then, looked toward Kenny.
"Five and a half hours, probably almost done," Kenny replied.
Thalassa turned to Fiona.
She hadn't slept well in days and had lost some weight.
"I heard that there might be a need for another transplant after this one," Thalassa said with deep concern.
Kenny patted her head. "Let's go buy some things that my sister-in-law and brother like to eat later."
Thalassa nodded in agreement.
