Chapter 328 An Unexpected Reunion

Darwin looked at Fiona, surprised, "You don't know that Dagmar's travel has been restricted?"

Fiona paused.

He laughed, "Didn’t he tell you?"

As his laughter faded, Darwin's expression turned solemn, "Your relationship appeared to revolve around avoiding causing concern for each other."

Fiona ignored him and made a call.

"Has Dagmar made it home?" she asked directly after the connection.

Whatever the response was, it led Fiona to hang up and glare at Darwin, outraged, "I thought you were just a rich kid with a temper, not heartless. What drove Dagmar to stop practicing as a pediatrician, to this path? Darwin, you are the real instigator! How can you stoop so low?"

"Fiona, why the anger? I haven't done anything yet, have I? The choice is yours," Darwin gestured toward the final document on the table.

"You're despicable!"

Fiona thought the contract was likely about custody rights. Darwin was forcing her to choose between her child and Dagmar.

In that moment, Fiona's disdain for Darwin reached its peak.

Grasping the envelope, she tore open the seal. "I've given you enough leeway, considering you're Charles and Chicago's father. But I didn't expect you to double down on your antics... Darwin, I'm warning—" Fiona's voice was charged with fury, but she cut herself off.

The moment she pulled the document from the bag, she froze. The cover bore bold, black letters— "Marriage Agreement."

Stunned, Fiona looked at Darwin. "What is this supposed to mean?"

"Charles and Chicago can’t stand to be without you, and I'm certainly not giving up my parental rights. After much thought, this is the best solution." Darwin's eyes were fixed on her as he spoke deliberately, "Let’s get married. You move in with the kids and live with me."

Fiona was shocked. This was a surprising turn she hadn't expected.

Glancing at the clock, Darwin pressed, "You have fifteen minutes to consider. If you don't sign within that time, Dagmar is going to jail."

Fiona sneered at him and, without even checking the agreement, swiftly signed her name on the last page.

Darwin, slightly taken aback, asked, "Aren’t you going to read it?"

Tossing the contract at him, Fiona retorted, "Does it matter to me?"

Darwin's brow furrowed.

"Charles and Chicago are hostile toward you now. For their sake, you’d better stay away for a while." Her voice was ice cold. Grabbing all incriminating evidence, Fiona turned to leave.

After a few steps, rage boiled within her, uncontainable. Spinning around, she confronted Darwin, hands grabbing his collar fiercely. "This is the last time, Darwin. If you so much as think about hurting Dagmar again, I will kill you!"

With those final words, she shoved Darwin away and stormed off, seething with threat.

Alone, Darwin observed Fiona's departing figure until the café fell silent. The sun's warmth had moved away, leaving a sudden chill.

Picking up the fallen marriage agreement from the floor, he smoothed out its creases and flipped open a page. Listed were numerous items for Fiona, including shares in Solomon Energy, prominently featured.

The pages of assets symbolized Darwin's gifts to Fiona. However, her mind focused solely on Dagmar, ignoring a glance at her potential wealth.

Fiona clutched the pile of documents, finding a safe place to set them ablaze. She meticulously stirred the ashes, ensuring everything was completely destroyed before she felt secure enough to leave.

Back in her car, the flames of her anger slowly receded.

By signing the marriage agreement, it meant she was now married to Darwin.

Although once naive and clueless, she had secretly dreamed of this day.

Before she faked her own death and left Darwin that year, they had almost gone to get their marriage license. The anticipation and joy she had felt back then were still vivid in her memory.

Who would have thought that, after many twists and turns with Darwin, she would still end up on this path?

Yet the emotions of those days were gone.

Feeling tired and completely exhausted, she wished to hit the pause button, letting everything settle into calmness.

Since he started working with the Rhoads family, Dagmar couldn't recall a time when his life had been so idle.

There was no work to be done and leaving the country was prohibited.

Initially, he was even prohibited from leaving his residence, but today, the ban was unexpectedly lifted.

Dagmar hadn't mentioned the travel restrictions to Fiona, so even with his newfound freedom, he couldn't visit Charles.

Deep down, Dagmar knew why he had been barred from leaving the country.

Darwin had revealed his cards. He knew the reasons that Darwin had used to keep him in check.

But Dagmar wasn't worried.

He wanted Darwin to see that even if he had something on him, in the end, he would come out unscathed.

Dagmar was cautious by nature; he never got his hands dirty with things that he shouldn't.

Suspicion without evidence remained just that—a suspicion.

At most, he would be interrogated a few times.

Once he knew he could leave, Dagmar went for an early morning jog, took a shower afterward, changed into casual clothes, got in his car, and drove off for some breakfast tea.

After enjoying his breakfast tea leisurely, he joined a group chat with specialists who were handling Charles' medical condition and discussed the case with them.

As they were talking, the restaurant suddenly erupted into chaos.

Instinctively looking up, Dagmar noticed that patrons at surrounding tables were staring out the window in shock. Some were even running outside.

Frowning, Dagmar looked to see what was happening and observed a tall, thin, bald man assaulting a boy on the sidewalk. He was surrounded by a group of children.

A girl was crying and attempting to intervene, but the tall man kicked her aside. The boy was sprawled on the ground, his face unseen by Dagmar, but the girl's face was unmistakable.

She was the same girl to whom he had once given items he bought for Charles and Chicago on the street, along with her brother.

Dagmar immediately stood, paid his bill in a hurry, and jogged out of the restaurant.

When Dagmar arrived, people were already trying to break up the fight.
"What are you doing hitting him?" he interjected.

"He's a thief! Can't we beat a thief?" retorted a defiant kid, probably in his early teens, with a hardened face that showed no trace of childlike innocence.

"I didn't steal anything...I didn't..." the boy curled up, clenched his teeth and defended himself.

"The toys were given to my sister and me by a kind man. You took them. I was just getting back our stuff."

Dagmar blinked in surprise.

Toys? Were they the ones he had given them?
