Chapter 552 That Can't Be Stuart, Can It?
As Fiona's voice trailed off, Darwin lowered his head, kissing her deeply with a hint of punishment.
He was well aware she was playing dumb.
By the end of the movie, Darwin had no idea what it was about.
"How much does that actress get paid?" Darwin suddenly threw out the question on their way out, hands intertwined.
"What?" Fiona was puzzled; he hadn't paid any attention to the movie.
For over an hour, Darwin had been fooling around, and now suddenly he was concerned about the lead actress.
"She screamed for an hour; I'm just curious about her salary, wondering if it's enough to fix her throat," he said of the piercing screams that had been annoying.
In that instant, Darwin entertained the notion that they might have had a more romantic experience watching a film. The ambiance would have been far more enchanting than the movie they endured. Fiona chuckled at his remark, recognizing his jest.
"Looks like there's a coffee shop you love around here," Darwin noted, checking the results on his phone. "On the first floor, shall we grab a drink?"
"Sure."
Fiona nodded, and they made their way leisurely to the first floor.
Though both wore hats and masks, dressing quite modestly, their impressive height and demeanor, hand in hand, naturally drew attention.
After leaving the mall, they stopped at a flower shop near their apartment and bought an abundance of flowers. Back in the car, Fiona received a call from Thalassa.
"Did you guys go on a date?" She cut straight to the chase.
"How did you know?" Fiona asked.
"Saw it on TikTok, lots of people spotted you both," Thalassa answered. "And you were making out in the movie theater?"
Fiona was at a loss for words.
She ended the call and immediately opened TikTok.
Sure enough, the first video was a photo collage.
"It seems like I just stumbled upon a tycoon's sister and her no-good husband in line for coffee!"
There were three photos in total.
They had indeed been stealthily photographed while in line for coffee.
"Now I understand the trouble celebrities go through," Fiona said, passing her phone to Darwin. "At least we're not trending yet."
"What's this about a no-good husband?" Darwin frowned.
Fiona laughed. "Had you not mentioned it, I wouldn't have even noticed."
She quickly grabbed her phone back. "Oh right, someone spotted us in the theater too; let's hope nothing too explicit was captured!"
Soon enough, Fiona found what she was looking for.
Exiting the cinema, Darwin and Fiona found themselves bathed in the glow of shared emotions and subtle affections. Engaged in conversation, their steps intertwined with the lingering essence of the film they had just experienced.
Unbeknownst to them, a passing observer was moved to capture this fleeting moment in a series of photographs.
The caption read, “What a lucky day! Went to the movies with my heartthrob and bumped into Fiona and Darwin. Is it really them? I'm not seeing things, am I?”
Meanwhile, in the comments section:
[Just came across a chance encounter at the coffee shop, they were filmed clearer there, it is indeed them, wow, old money dates are just like us, regular folks!]
[Darwin kept distracting Fiona from watching the movie; they were kissing from start to finish!]
[Is Darwin this clingy, with such a strong desire?]
[Feeling sorry for Fiona, Darwin doesn't deserve her, let me do the kissing!]
[Holding hands tightly over a coffee purchase, and endlessly kissing in the movie theater, is this Darwin's tactic for ensnaring Fiona? So cunning!]
[To be honest, Fiona isn't just all about love, right? Speaking from experience, you really can get caught up in these tricks!]
[If she were my wife, I'd be the one kissing her!]
Darwin was frequently exasperated by internet users.
Fiona was laughing.
At that moment, Burl called.
Fiona checked the time and guessed that Burl was probably heading back with the kids.
"Fiona! You and Darwin need to get to the hospital!" Burl's voice sounded urgent.
"What happened?" Fiona's smile vanished instantly. "Is it Charles..."
"No, no, it's not that. Chicago said she saw Stuart at the hospital, and she insists on finding him before she'll leave..."
"Stuart?" Fiona's expression darkened.
Stuart had an incident on the other side of the world.
It was impossible for him to be in the country.
"Darwin, set the GPS for the hospital," Fiona said to Darwin, and then spoke to Burl, "Watch over Chicago, we're on our way."
“Alright!”
After hanging up the phone, Darwin was already driving in that direction.
“What’s going on with Chicago?” he asked, somewhat anxious.
"She said she saw Stuart in the hospital," Fiona replied with a frown. "Darwin, do you think it's because Chicago misses Stuart so much that she's starting to have hallucinations?"
"Don't jump to conclusions; it might just be someone who looks similar."
Fiona didn't respond.
Soon, they reached the hospital.
When Fiona and Darwin found Chicago and the others, Chicago was sobbing uncontrollably.
"Baby!" Fiona rushed forward.
"Mommy!" Seeing Fiona, Chicago couldn't hold back her tears and was on the brink of bursting into an even bigger cry.
Fiona squatted down in front of her. "Calm down, just calm down a bit."
Chicago was hiccupping through her tears.
"Settle down first, then take your time and tell me where you saw Stuart, okay?" Fiona's hand gently wiped away the tears streaking Chicago's face.
After taking a couple of short breaths, Chicago began to recount what had happened two hours earlier.
Charles's mentor was growing restless from his prolonged hospital stay when someone finally came to visit. He refused to let his guest leave, insisting they share lunch together, and then they watched a couple of episodes of an action-packed animated series in the hospital room.
In the middle of their visit, Chicago excused herself to use the restroom. When she stepped out, amidst the bustling hospital crowd, she spotted Stuart. She could barely react before she was swept up in the wave of people and carried into the elevator.
"Stuart!" Chicago shouted, dashing toward the closing elevator doors.
But she was so small, she couldn't keep up. After only a few strides, Mike, who had followed to watch over her, scooped her up into his arms. "Miss, you can't run off like that!"
Chicago struggled, pleading, "I want Stuart, let me go!"
Mike's expression instantly turned somber.
"Chicago, Stuart will come back," he consoled her.
Chicago was frantic with worry but was nonetheless carried back to the hospital room by Mike without further discussion. Mike set her down, and she burst into tears, trying to run back out.
"What's wrong?" Charles demanded, approaching with an intimidating aura.
"Ms. Chicago misses Stuart," Mike sighed.
"No, Charles, I saw Stuart, he's here! I have to find him!" Chicago cried desperately.
"Did anyone check the surveillance footage?" Fiona inquired, looking at Mike.
Mike grimaced. "We did, but the man Chicago saw couldn't be Stuart. He's built all wrong."
Stuart was remarkably well-built, and the man Chicago pointed out was too different. Mike even showed Fiona the photo from the surveillance. It was blurry, and the man's features were obscured by a mask and a worn baseball cap, making it impossible to clearly identify him.
"Chicago, are you sure it was him?" Fiona pressed. "Did you see his face?"
"It was Stuart, it has to be, I wouldn't mistake him, Mommy, you have to believe me..." Chicago sobbed inconsolably.
Fiona tenderly caressed her daughter’s face. "Don't cry. Daddy and I will definitely help you find this man."
