Chapter 1354
Rose called for a car and headed to a cemetery a couple of hours away.
Unlike the one near Armie, this cemetery was a mess.
Rose made this trip every year, but it was always Hubert who brought her.
This time, on her own, it took her a bit to find the slightly crooked tombstone.
It read: "Odette Everhart."
Mike, in disguise, looked just like one of the local homeless guys.
He was curled up on a busted lounge chair not far from the grave, with a few empty bottles around him.
But Mike hadn't actually had a drop to drink.
He watched Rose squatting by the grave.
Knowing she'd be there to pay her respects, Mike had planted a tiny bug behind the tombstone.
But Rose just squatted there for ages without saying a word.
Mike started to think she might've found the bug.
Then he heard her say, "Mom, I'm gonna make the right choice, just like you did. Next time I come, I'll have good news."
She wiped the dust off the tombstone, stood up, clasped her hands together, bowed, took a deep breath, and walked away with purpose.
Mike sat up.
After leaving the cemetery, Rose got into a taxi.
Both the car she came in and this ride-share were arranged by Mike.
Rose stayed super quiet in the car.
She browsed a few restaurant reviews, then put her phone down and stared out the window.
By the end of the day, Mike felt like he hadn't learned anything new.
That evening, he called Fiona to report, feeling pretty frustrated.
"The right choice?" Fiona echoed what Mike had told her. "And what kind of good news is that?"
"I heard her tell Mr. Graham she wants to do well at the Solomon Group. Maybe the choice is about that? And the good news would be that she's doing well there?" Mike didn't think there was anything odd about what Rose said.
Fiona still thought it was weird.
"She said she'd make the same right choice as her mom." Fiona's tone was serious. "Honestly, Odette's life was a mess. I don't think she made any right choices."
After Marisole died, Odette quickly dropped out of school. She got mixed up with two thugs, got pregnant young, and was abandoned. That's when Brooke found her.
"Ms. Rhoads, I'll keep an eye on Rose! If she's up to something, she'll slip up eventually!" Mike had no doubts about Fiona's suspicions.
Since Fiona thought Rose was hiding something, his job was to find out what it was.
After Mike finished talking, there was a long silence from Fiona's end.
"Ms. Rhoads?" Mike called out, a bit unsure.
