Chapter 723 The Lie Has Been Disclosed.
Non-islanders gradually left one by one.
A middle-aged man cursed. "In the end, we still took the money and moved out. What have we been doing for the past few months?"
"Right. Jimmy moved out half a year ago. He moved into such a nice resettlement house and used the compensation money to open a successful snack shop in the capital! The snacks my mom makes are much better than theirs. If we had moved out then, we would have definitely done better now!!"
"It's all because some people are spreading misleading information!"
The people's anger was directed at Aura and her family.
"What we wanted to fight for with Solomon was never about money; it was about staying!" Aura retorted. "If you have impure intentions. Who can you blame?"
The man who was accused of having impure intentions immediately became angry. He slammed the table and pointed at Aura's nose. "You ill-mannered brat, say that one more time? If it weren't for your Dad's sake, we would have rushed into your house last night and dragged out your unknown fiancé to vent our anger! How dare you mock us here!!"
"That's right. Didn't he say he was confident that Solomon would compromise with us and let us stay? But now, the ones who ran the fastest are your family!!"
A group of islanders who did not want money but wanted to stay on the island were furiously banging on the table with red eyes.
"If you don't want to leave, you don't have to sign!" Cyrus looked at the man who spoke, "We were the ones fighting for it. What have you done besides following us? Now that you couldn't achieve it, you are blaming us?"
"Let it go."
Gray appeared much older in the past few days.
Her once-dark hair had turned grey.
Weary and helpless, she waved her hand. "Let's go back and pack our things and get ready to leave."
Seeing their mother like this, Cyrus and Aura had no intention of arguing anymore.
Supporting their mother and ignoring the resentful gazes of the crowd, they stood up and left the activity center.
"Why did we let them off so easily?" the man accused of impure intentions muttered, glancing at the crowd,
"We have suffered losses in the past few months. Shouldn't they compensate us?"
"Yes, I heard before that because their hotel is bigger, even though their population is smaller, they received more compensation than us," Lily’s grandma murmured.
"In the beginning, the land they occupied was originally public land. Aura's father saved the island's lord, and despite everyone's objections, the old lord rented that good piece of land to them at an extremely low price! In the past few years, most tourists who came to the island went to their place. They have always made more money than us. Now, they are receiving more compensation as well. It's unfair!"
"Then let's just negotiate a sum and go directly to Gray's house. Let's settle this before we leave!" an older man made the decision.
"Don’t ask for too much. How about $10,000 per family?"
"That sounds reasonable."
"Sure."
And so, the islanders, in a lively discussion, casually settled on the amount.
As they were talking, the islanders received the compensation funds from Solomon's investment.
As they looked at the long string of numbers, even those who were reluctant to leave couldn't help but show a smile.
"I’ve checked the amount we should be compensated according to our policies," someone who had looked at the contract said with a mix of annoyance and joy, "The amount we received now is almost three times the policy amount."
"Henry mentioned this to us before. He said when the contract was presented to Solomon headquarters, Mr. Solomon thought the amount was too little, and he was worried that after we left the island, we wouldn't be able to make a living with this money, so he gave us a little more."
In reality, on the day Darwin discussed this matter, Chicago was sleeping in Darwin’s lounge. She woke up dazed and ran out to find his father holding her teddy bear.
Darwin never avoided Chicago when he was in meetings or working.
When he saw Chicago coming out, Darwin immediately reached out his hand toward her.
A moment later, Chicago sat sleepily in Darwin's arms, holding her teddy bear. Darwin listened to his subordinates reporting on the situation on the island. He managed to find time to give Chicago a cheese stick to eat.
As they were talking, Chicago suddenly looked at Darwin and asked, "Will this money be enough?" Darwin was slightly taken aback, not understanding what Chicago meant. Chicago pointed to the documents in front of him and said, "You drove them away, but is the money you gave them enough? There was a sister on our island before. Bad people took away her island. The money they gave her wasn't enough, so she came to work as a maid in our house."
Fiona, Janna, and Thalassa had all talked to Darwin about it. Since childhood, Chicago had worried about everyone on the island, from the guards at the pier to the household staff.
Chicago seemed to know everyone's troubles. At first, Darwin thought they were exaggerating. But on that day, seeing Chicago's worried and serious gaze, he realized that this saying was not at all exaggerated.
Therefore, the amount originally compensated according to the policy increased threefold under Chicago's worried and hopeful gaze.
The financial manager was overwhelmed. Afterward, he begged everyone to make sure that similar meetings would be arranged in the conference room. It was to prevent Darwin from doing anything outrageous when Miss was in the company.
After receiving the money and confirming the original amount stated in the contract, everyone reminded each other to remember what Fiona had warned them before she left. In order to secure their future wealth, they must be careful with their words.
Then, a few families sent their young adults to Gray's hotel. They had already packed up their things. They couldn't move some of the larger items, so Gray planned to hire a professional moving company to come and move them later. She was worried that there would be another conflict and decided to leave the island first.
"That's roughly the situation. In short, everyone on the island has signed the confirmation document." Gray sat across from Darwin. "Her eyes are fine."
Darwin lowered his eyes, silently staring at the photo of Fiona that Gray had secretly taken.
Gray was unsettled. "Blaise, no, Mr. Solomon."
"Just call me Blaise," Darwin said indifferently.
A gleam appeared in Gray's eyes. "You really aren't planning to go back?"
Finally, Darwin's gaze moved away from the photo and landed on Gray's face. "Gray, not going back doesn't mean I will marry Aura. The lie has been disclosed."
Gray's smile froze on her face.
