Chapter 547 The Truth Comes to Light
The bustling month of August was here.
An important moment was about to take place.
Charles and Chicago were about to face their first entrance exam in their lives.
Before the exam, Fiona carefully reminded each of the kids.
"Charles, when you're taking the test, just answer appropriately, okay? Don't overdo it.
"Chicago, make sure you read the questions carefully, you can't be careless, and don't write the answer for one question in the space for another question, and no drawing on the test paper!"
After giving her advice, she sent the siblings to the door.
The morning’s exams were over.
Next came the anxious wait for results.
However, before the acceptance notice could arrive, Thalassa went viral.
When Fiona got the call, she was in the middle of a meeting with an overseas client.
She abruptly ended the meeting.
"It's a woman named Crystal; she's gone public on the internet... saying something about Thalassa..." Laura trailed off, hesitant to continue.
Fiona got the gist.
Crystal was Chris's fiancée.
Striding out of the conference room, Fiona pulled up Twitter.
Thalassa's name topped the trending list.
Recently, the serial killer, Justin had caused a sensation, coupled with Maria's funeral, an event dubbed by netizens as an 'Old Money' gathering.
As a result, Thalassa's popularity was soaring.
Any small incident could get blown out of proportion with just a bit of online spin, sending her name shooting up the trending charts.
At the top of the list was a gossip blogger, who had shared a revealing post from TikTok.
A woman named Crystal publicly relayed her ordeal of being deceived into engagement, then deserted.
Fiona clicked on the video.
Crystal, much thinner than when Fiona had seen her last, had hollow eyes, looking as if she were in the throes of a serious illness.
"Hi everyone, I'm Crystal, just an ordinary woman. Six months ago, through a family introduction, I had a blind date with Justin's son, Chris, and everything proceeded smoothly to an engagement until, just before the wedding, he broke it off because of his stepsister, Thalassa, completely disregarding my feelings," Crystal revealed.
"It was only then that I learned that Chris and Thalassa had been in a relationship for years!"
As the video went on, the screen went dark, and then there was a photo of Thalassa and Chris kissing.
Fiona's expression darkened quickly.
"Everyone knows Ms. Thalassa is married. Yet she neither considered her own husband nor me, an innocent party. Using her mother's death as an excuse, she rekindled her affair with Chris, leaving me jilted, bringing shame to my parents," Crystal continued fiercely.
"I have been patient for so long and have decided not to endure in silence anymore. Why should the victim quietly bear all this pain?" Crystal ranted about independent women and seeking revenge.
Scrolling through the comments, it was a uniform outpouring of insults and disbelief.
[This is insane! What is this, incest?]
[I've seen people praising her on the trending searches before, calling her sweet, innocent, heartbroken, and now it turns out her private life is a mess! Just as I suspected!]
[Seriously, if you want incest, don't drag others into it. Feeling sorry for that handsome, dashing young Chris for a second!]
[Does anyone know the young Chris? Hurry and share this video with him so he can get away quick!]
[Jerks and mean girls are a perfect match, Crystal don't feel bad, you'll find someone better!]
[Yeah, her dead mom was one of those people, too. We're from the same place, and she used to seduce men since she was young. Everyone knew about it, and that's why no one would marry her, so she had to move away to get married!]
Fiona logged out of Twitter.
She then called Thalassa.
"Babe, it's okay, I've got PR handling it," Thalassa answered the call, starting to reassure Fiona.
"What can PR do? I'm just telling you, I'm going to sue."
She didn't wait for Thalassa to respond.
Fiona hung up the phone.
She quickly went to get someone to verify a new TikTok account.
Then, she posted directly to Crystal's comment section.
"Police notified, no settlement."
Her comment quickly shot to the top.
[What's going on? The verified account is Fiona, the CEO of Monsoon Investment, isn't that her?]
[Holy cow, did Fiona just set up a verified TikTok account to come to her best friend's defense?]
[What's the deal? Is this woman scamming us?]
[The one saying she's lying, use your brain, she's got a photo. I looked into it, it's not Photoshopped!]
After Chris left, Crystal was very angry and couldn't let it go.
She couldn't vent her frustrations at Chris, so after much thought, she concluded that Thalassa was the cause of it all.
Last night, she got drunk, stumbled home, and found a TikTok video filled with her friends and Thalassa.
Seeing her so glamorous and praised by everyone, hailed as a goddess.
Crystal just couldn't take it.
In a moment of impulse, she decided to wash her face and make herself look pitiful.
Then, Crystal recorded the video.
After posting the video, Crystal went straight to bed.
She slept all the way into the next afternoon.
When Crystal woke up, the top comment in her notifications was Fiona's statement.
Her phone was flooded with missed calls from different people.
Crystal called her parents back first.
"What the hell did you post online? Aren’t you ashamed enough of our family? Fiona has called the cops, and when they couldn't reach you, they called us!"
"What does Fiona have to do with it?" Crystal asked, irritable.
"Delete the video, fast, and then come back here," Crystal's mom said urgently over the phone. "I'll figure out a way to get Thalassa out here. You apologize and try your best to make sure she doesn't hold you responsible!"
"Don't forget the lesson from what happened with your grandma. This mess you've created is much worse. If Thalassa decides to pursue this, paying her off will be the least of your worries. The Solomon and Rhoads families have enough lawyers to send you to jail!"
Her cousin's voice came through the line, filled with concern, "That Darwin always makes a big scene! Crystal, if you don't fix this fast, the Darwin will come after us and you'll be the black sheep of the family!"
"It's shameful enough to have been engaged to a serial killer's family. My recent poker games, people keep asking about it!" It sounded like there were several members of the Ayres family on the call.
Fear started to creep into Crystal. She realized she had stirred up serious trouble.
After hanging up, she hurriedly deleted the video and glanced at the online sentiment. Despite Fiona's statement, the online abuse aimed at Thalassa was overwhelming. Crystal was secretly pleased.
After some thought, Crystal decided not to offer any explanations and simply deactivated her account.
Meanwhile, Fiona had already arrived at Thalassa's company.
"Chelsea, she deactivated her account," Laura announced.
"Just like that, without saying a word?" Fiona asked.
"Yeah!" Laura nodded.
Thalassa frowned.
"Crystal and I were engaged? When did we break off the engagement? I've been done with that relationship for ages; I'm married now. Why is Crystal targeting me? Does she have a problem with her intelligence or what?"
Kenny had gone back to school, but when he heard about the incident, he immediately wanted to come back. It took considerable effort for Thalassa to talk him out of it. If Kenny's affairs were disrupted because of this, Thalassa would never forgive Crystal.
