Chapter 1496

Charlotte glared at him and gave Charles a gentle nudge with her foot. "Come on, hurry up!"

Charles chuckled and dialed Fiona's number.

The phone rang a few times before she answered.

"Mom, you need to send those people away."

"Where's Charlotte?" Fiona asked.

Charles handed the phone to Charlotte. Normally, she was pretty tough, but now her face turned red.

"Hi, Mrs. Solomon."

"Charlotte, are you okay? Don't hold back for my sake, break his leg if you need to!" Fiona's tone shifted immediately.

"I'm fine." Charlotte found the whole situation pretty funny.

"Mom, we've made up. I proposed successfully. The weather's supposed to be nice tomorrow, so we'll get the marriage license and then come home."

It was rare for Charles to say so much at once.

Fiona almost couldn't hold back her laughter on the other end.

"Made up? What about Charlotte's husband?" Fiona asked seriously.

"We'll explain everything when we get home," Charlotte replied.

"You're both adults. Marriage isn't a game. Don't rush it. Come home before you get the license."

"Okay!" Charlotte agreed right away.

Charles echoed her agreement.

After they hung up, Charlotte and Charles exchanged a look.

Then she, frustrated, bumped her head against his chest.

Charles laughed. "Are you embarrassed?"

"Yes," Charlotte answered honestly.

Charles was overjoyed.

He lifted her chin and kissed her again.

When they left the small house, they realized Fiona was serious. There were large demolition vehicles outside.

Both Charles and Charlotte had driven there.

Charlotte suggested they each drive back the way they came.

But Charles didn't hesitate to push her into his car.

He called someone to drive Charlotte's car back.

"I already agreed. Do you think I'd run away?" Charlotte was exasperated.

"You already found someone else to marry. I have a strong sense of risk management. I can't take any chances with this." He said, glancing at Charlotte. "Until we get that marriage license, I'm your shadow."

Charlotte tried to hold back her laughter but couldn't.

Charles smiled too.

The bright sunlight followed them all the way.

When they got back to Emerald Pool, it was past mealtime.

As they stepped out of the elevator, Charlotte instinctively tried to let go of Charles' hand.

But he held on tighter.

"Charlotte!" Chicago ran over immediately. Seeing their joined hands, her mind went blank for a moment. "Are you okay?"

Chicago quickly scanned them both.

Their lips were bruised.

Either they had fought, or they had kissed passionately.

Either way, it was a lot for Chicago to process.

"We're fine."

"Charlotte, Mom and the others are waiting for you."

Charlotte was a bit taken aback by being called "sis."

"Chicago..."

"Be good." Charles patted Chicago's head. "We'll get you a gift later."

Chicago rolled her eyes at him.

For the first time in her life, she found Charles completely annoying.

"Got it." Chicago paused, then added sarcastically, "Brother-in-law."

After everyone had their say, Chicago walked off without looking back.

Charlotte took a moment to process.

Then she burst out laughing.

All her earlier tension vanished.
