Chapter 338 The More I Cross, the More I Love

Information bombarded Lilian, threatening to drown her.

She didn't dare respond to a single message and hastily turned off her phone.

"So that's it! That's how it is!” she muttered, gnawing at her fingernails, pacing restlessly and angrily across the room.

She had always known Chelsea was not as kind-hearted as she seemed. She had threatened her just days ago, and now she was suddenly letting her go!

Chelsea had known all along that Lilian's reputation had taken a hit, and that keeping her within the walls of the Klein Mansion, under watchful eyes, was actually a safe haven.

So she had let her go—in part to seem like a good Samaritan to Darwin while pushing Lilian into an abyss.

"Chelsea!" Lilian growled through clenched teeth.

She has pretended to be virtuous in Darwin's presence, but she had a venomous heart!

Chelsea wanted to harm her?

Lilian scoffed.

"You'll learn what 'biting off more than you can chew' really means soon.”

Lilian took deep breaths and fought to regain her composure.

She opened a drawer and fished out a tiny SIM card from a box hidden away in its recesses.

She had trusted Darwin so much that she never imagined she’d need to contact this person again in her lifetime.

The mere thought twisted her heart in pain.

After she left, Darwin had taken to Fiona as a replacement, rekindling old flames. Why should she forgive him? He had turned his back on her?

As the heartache settled, she became more resolute. She inserted the SIM card into an old phone and, with trembling fingers, dialed an international number.

It was a number on a private island in the Maldives.

A heavily scarred hand picked up a phone from the ground.

Below him, a blonde, blue-eyed woman wrapped herself around him discontentedly, reaching out to snatch the phone from his hand.

The man glanced at the incoming caller ID.

He slapped the woman's outstretched arm forcefully.

She cried out in pain, her face a portrait of shocked indignation, but she didn't dare lash out.

The man pushed her away, put on a bathrobe, and answered the phone as he walked outside.

On the other end of the line, a faint sobbing could be heard.

His brow furrowed immediately, annoyance flaring up as he asked in English, "What's wrong?"

As he finished his question, the sobbing crystalized into clarity.

Anxiety surged within him. “Where are you?”

“Simon, please save me”…"

Moments later, a voice echoed from the other side, panic-stricken and filled with grievance “.
"Darwin fooled me. He claimed to have fallen in love with the heir to the Rhoads family fortune and cast me aside. Now his wife is scheming against me, and it looks like everyone's out to get me..."

Simon's deep blue eyes, usually so clear, now shimmered with a dark intensity. "Wait. I'll bring you home."

The call ended.

Lilian stopped crying immediately.

She wiped the tears from her face, her gaze finally settling on the photograph on her nightstand—her only picture with a young Darwin.

Back then, he had been more stunning than the stars in the sky. He was nothing like the distant and cold businessman he'd become.

After all these years...

For the first time, Lilian wished with all her heart that reincarnation was real. If it was, she'd never choose to leave Darwin behind.

But...

There are no second chances in this world.

Things had gone too far. There was no turning back.

Her hand rested on her stomach, and when she looked at the photograph of the handsome young man again, her eyes turned icy cold.

"Darwin, as long as this child exists, you're bound to me for life!"

Charles was now stable.

After a visit to the Klein estate, Fiona returned to the studio.

"Chelsea, what brings you here?" Laura asked, her face a picture of surprise.

"Huh? Can't I stop by?" Fiona dropped her bag and glanced at her colleagues who were all staring at her.

"Of course not..." Laura quickly shook her head, then with a beaming smile, said, "We haven't had a chance to congratulate you on your wedding!"

"Yeah Chelsea, hope you're enjoying wedded bliss!" They all chimed in with their congratulations.

Bliss? Joy?

Fiona thought about the chaos that had happened recently.

Resigned, she said, "Okay, I get it. You guys pick somewhere to hang out after work. It’s on me." She clapped her hands and added, "The RH Company project is moving forward. I'm pressed for time. Let's get to it and do a round-up of the issues."

While Fiona was in her meeting...

Thalassa and Kenny made their way to the cemetery, with flowers and Thalassa’s father's favorite bottle of liquor in hand

Thalassa's father had passed away suddenly.

The cemeteries close to the city were expensive, and at the time, Thalassa was still a student, and Maria was a stay-at-home mom.

Their finances were tight.

So, with a heavy heart, Grandma Carey had purchased a plot in a cemetery two hours' drive from the city center to lay Mr. Carey to rest.

"The commute here isn’t as bad as it used to be," Thalassa remarked, gesturing at the bus stop nearby. "When I was a kid, it took over four hours by bus with all the transfers. We'd leave at dawn and wouldn't get here until noon. It would be dark by the time we got home."

Kenny knew that after Thalassa’s father died, Thalassa’s mom remarried Justin not long after.
The Walkers were well-off. They had a car and a driver at their disposal.

If she had taken the bus, it meant she had come here by herself. Why bother trekking all the way out here unless something had upset her? She must have needed her dad.

Kenny patted her head gently. Thalassa seemed oblivious to Kenny's concerned gaze which, in turn, was diverted by the sight of the security guard's yellow Labrador.

"Buddy?" she exclaimed in delighted surprise and scampered over.

Kenny, worried the dog might panic and snap at her, quickly followed. But that didn't happen.

The yellow Lab, who was clearly an elderly dog, studied Thalassa for a moment then perked up, his ears wiggling in bliss. He managed to stand up shakily and, tail wagging, staggered toward Thalassa.

"Buddy, you remember me! I missed you the last few times I was here. I thought—well, I'm glad you're okay!" Thalassa said, circling around the dog with glee.

The dog seemed overjoyed too, emitting happy snorts.

Just then, the security guard came out.

Spotting the scene, he chuckled, "He's an old boy now. He usually dozes off in the storage shed. He took advantage of the sunshine today. I never expected him to bump into an old friend though!"

"That's right, Buddy must be pushing twenty, huh?" Thalassa said in surprise, then petted the dog's head. "You'd be over a hundred years old in human years, Buddy! Way to go!"

Buddy nuzzled Thalassa's hand as if he understood the compliment.

Kenny stood aside, watching his wife with a radiant smile, his mood lifting with the scene.

It had been love at first sight for him, but the more time he spent with Thalassa, the deeper he understood her soul, and the more irresistibly drawn to her he became, surpassing any initial hormonal rush.

“Come meet a new friend, Buddy," Thalassa said, squatting beside Buddy and glancing back at Kenny. She leaned in and whispered, "That's my husband, the very adorable Kenny."
