Chapter 1327
Darwin grew up with Brooke, raised by Vespera. Whenever Vespera talked about him, her voice would light up. "He's married now and has a baby! Why didn't Mr. Solomon come? And who is this?"
"Mrs. Blacksmith, Mr. Solomon is at work. I'm their bodyguard, here to keep them safe!" Christopher said, softening his tough demeanor with a smile.
Vespera nodded.
She stared at Christopher for a bit and then said, "Aiden used to have a strong bodyguard like you. I wonder where he is now, if he's still alive."
Vespera sighed, looking sad. "I told Mrs. Mitchell not to push away the people close to Aiden, but she always thought Aiden, as the future head of the Solomon Group and the Mitchell family business, had to be tougher than anyone and shouldn't get attached to anyone."
She then looked at Fiona and said, "Even Aiden wasn't allowed to rely on his mom. It was so harsh. I totally get why he ended up the way he did."
"Grandma, the doctor said you need to stay calm; don't get worked up," Emrys gently comforted her.
"I never had the guts to tell Mrs. Mitchell the truth. I'm guilty too!" Vespera started to cry. "I know I'm dying. I came today to say all the things I never told her! I want to tell her she was wrong! Really wrong!"
Vespera got so emotional she almost couldn't catch her breath.
Fiona quickly suggested taking her to the hospital, but Vespera waved her off, silently and determinedly walking towards Brooke's tombstone.
Christopher held an umbrella, watching the frail, hunched figure. "The people we sent last time said Mrs. Blacksmith had gone mad. Doesn't she seem normal now?"
Fiona didn't say anything.
She watched as Vespera walked to Brooke's tombstone.
Vespera took a tissue from her pocket and wiped the water droplets off the tombstone.
No one knew what she said, but she pressed her forehead against the tombstone and started to cry.
Fiona didn't move, and Christopher didn't dare rush her.
He stood behind her like a wall.
After a moment, Emrys helped Vespera up; she could barely stand.
Seeing this, Fiona signaled to Christopher.
Christopher responded, handed the umbrella to Fiona, and immediately ran over.
"I'll carry Mrs. Blacksmith!" Christopher squatted down.
Emrys hesitated for a moment, thanked Christopher, and let him carry Vespera.
"Let's go to the hospital," Fiona said worriedly.
"No, I'm hungry. I want to eat at Culinary Canvas Restaurant," Vespera said softly, "I've been thinking about it for years. When I worked at Mrs. Mitchell's house, we would often sneak out to eat there. Those donuts were really good!"
Fiona looked at Emrys with a questioning gaze, and he nodded lightly. Since last winter, Vespera's mind had been unclear, but this morning, she suddenly seemed normal again.
She said she wanted to visit Brooke.
The young people quickly realized that Vespera was nearing the end of her life.
However, it took two or three hours by car to reach Brooke's grave, and they all feared that Vespera might not make it there.
Only Emrys couldn't bear to see his beloved Vespera have regrets before passing, so he secretly brought Vespera out.
Later, the car arrived at the entrance of Culinary Canvas Restaurant.
The little restaurant from the past had now transformed into a grand hotel. The hotel owner's family still held a deep attachment to the place. Even though the hotel had been upgraded to a grand establishment, they preserved the original exterior as a tribute to their loyal customers.
Vespera walked in shakily and sat down at a table by the window.
As they waited for their food, Vespera gazed out the window, seemingly expecting someone to arrive.
