Chapter 675 When Would He Come Back?
Harold had a bunch of white chrysanthemums in his hand, dressed in a tailored suit. His hair, still slightly curled as always, gave his mature features a deep and profound look.
Compared to the innocent, mixed-blood young master Fiona had met a few years ago, Harold seemed a world away.
"I came back from a business trip and happened to pass by here. I never thought I'd run into you," Harold looked at Fiona with something flickering in his eyes. "Long time no see."
"Long time no see." Fiona nodded slightly.
Harold hesitated for a moment. "Are you okay?"
Fiona took a deep breath, turned around, and looked at the vast ocean, "To be honest, I'm not doing so well."
Harold walked up and didn't know where to put the white chrysanthemums in his hand.
Finally, Harold simply threw them into the sea. "My mom saw you at Mr. and Mrs. White's golden wedding anniversary banquet and told me to meet someone who looked very similar to you. I thought it was just another matchmaking game she wanted me to go on until later when you attended Grandma Darwin's funeral, my mom showed me the photos from the scene, and I realized there really was someone who looked so much like you. But unfortunately, Darwin took you away again."
Fiona lowered her eyelids and forced a bitter smile.
"Well, I admit, I'm not really that upset about it. It's you that I like, not just your appearance. But it was a bit of a blow when you admitted that you are Fiona." Harold looked at her. "But, have you forgotten something?"
Confused, Fiona looked at him, "Don't try to trick me while I'm confused."
Harold smiled, "Have you forgotten? That night in New Port when the local gang members almost killed you, didn't you say the next day that you wanted me to be the godfather of your child? Have you forgotten about that since you've come back?"
Suddenly, Fiona recalled that there was such a thing in her memory.
"I'm sorry."
"Don't be sorry. There's still a chance. When can you introduce me to my godson and goddaughter? I am their knight in shining armor!" Harold looked quite proud.
"In a little while, things have been busy and chaotic recently," Fiona replied.
"Okay."
Harold accompanied her to watch the sea for a while.
"Do you know that I have taken over the family business now?" Harold asked.
Fiona nodded. "I know, congratulations."
With his mother's full support, Harold not only pushed his father out of the picture but also surpassed his uncle and his father's illegitimate eldest son in just three years to take control of the family business.
He also achieved outstanding results in the following three years of operation.
"I'm different now, powerful. So when you need help, don't hesitate to ask me. Just call for me," Harold said seriously.
Fiona smiled and nodded, saying, "All right, it's cold and windy here. You should go now."
"What about you?"
"I'm leaving too."
Harold took out his phone and opened his Facebook. "Add me as a friend. Don't delete me this time. I was sad for a long time when that happened."
Fiona added Harold on Facebook again.
Harold was overjoyed.
But he didn't bother Fiona too much. After saying goodbye seriously, Harold ran back to the business car by the roadside, waved at Fiona, and left.
After leaving the cliff villa area, Fiona went to see Mr. Sawyer, who was responsible for the search and rescue.
In the past few days, the official rescue team had gradually withdrawn. They had a set of criteria to determine whether the victims had perished. They had already mentally determined Darwin's death, so the entire search process was essentially searching for his body.
Fiona didn't care if the officials withdrew. The people arranged by Fiona and those Kenny found were still searching. They searched the sea, visited residents near the area, and searched deserted islands.
However, they were still empty-handed.
When Fiona came, Mr. Sawyer updated her on the search routes and results from the past two days.
"Fiona, this is the last search area. If we don't find anything, Mr. Solomon was likely swept into the open sea by the current," Mr. Sawyer regretfully said, "Searching here would be like finding a needle in a haystack."
"Keep searching," Fiona lowered her eyelids, "I'll bring Christmas dinner to you later as a thank you, you've been working hard."
"You and Mr. Walker have already provided us with such generous funding. It's the least we can do!" Mr. Sawyer immediately responded.
Fiona smiled lightly.
She left the New Year's bonus for the search and rescue team and left directly.
After Fiona left, several members of the search and rescue team gathered. Mr. Sawyer handed them the bonus and said, "This is from Fiona. Distribute it among yourselves, guys."
Everyone weighed the bonus in their hands.
They were all very happy.
One of the team members suddenly said, "Experienced rescuers all know that in that kind of situation, Darwin was definitely dead, and his body must have been swept into the deep sea and eaten by various sea creatures. I don't know why Fiona is still insisting on searching!"
Another team member also said, "That's right. I heard that if Darwin dies, all his family fortune will go into her pockets. How much money is that? If it were me, I wouldn't keep searching. With so much money, I can find any kind of man I want!"
"Watch what you say!" Mr. Sawyer furrowed his brows.
He had seen too many people leave their family members unfound because of the high corp spend.
He had also seen couples falling out, one teaming up with someone else to kill the other and then inheriting the estate.
So few people held onto even a glimmer of hope to find their missing spouse like Fiona.
Lately, Sawyer couldn't help but go to the church to pray every time he came home. Sawyer hoped that god would bless them with a miracle and bring Darwin back to them.
But maybe the god didn't hear or simply didn't want to get involved. Hope was becoming increasingly elusive. Once the final search area was thoroughly scoured and they still couldn't find him, they would have to stop the search mission.
Fiona's car circled several times before returning to the Emerald Pool. Fiona refused to hold a funeral at home. She insisted on hanging up the Christmas tree and filling it with all the Christmas presents she and Darwin had prepared for everyone, creating a very festive atmosphere.
It had been raining every day for the past few days. But on Christmas Eve, the weather was unusually good. Chicago, who hadn't seen Charlotte for a long time, played and rolled around in the grass with Jessie. When Fiona's car pulled up into the garage, Chicago hurriedly ran over. "Mommy, you're back!" Chicago hugged Fiona's leg. "Did you go see him? Is he okay? When will he call me? I'm going back to school soon, and if he doesn't come back, he won't have time to play with me!"
Charlotte followed behind. Hearing Chicago's words, she looked at Fiona with concern.
