Chapter 797 Stuck in the Mud
Darwin was not one to show mercy.
Even without his original memories, Darwin remained resolute.
If Chicago was indifferent to Eleanor's situation after he had sent Ms. Dashwood to the mental hospital today, it would be considered done.
Darwin pondered.
He had informed Fiona in a vague manner about Mr. Dashwood's other family matters.
Although Darwin only gave a rough description, Fiona could probably sense a bit of Ms. Dashwood's paranoia.
"Ms. Dashwood may not necessarily be unaware of her husband's affair," she said helplessly.
Darwin nodded. "Let's assume she is unaware for now. If, after informing her of everything, she persists, then for the sake of Chicago, we will have done all we could."
Fiona nodded.
Then she smiled and touched Darwin's cheek.
"If Chicago knew how much her father had done for her sake, she would be very, very happy."
Darwin's cheek gently leaned into Fiona's palm. "Today, facing Ms. Dashwood's moral coercion, Chicago's thinking is exceptionally clear. Both Janna and I were surprised, and all of this was due to your influence. What you have done for Charles and Chicago far surpasses mine, which is much more significant."
Fiona tilted her head to look at Darwin. "Why do I feel like you have something on your mind?"
Darwin fell silent for a moment.
After Janna slapped Ms. Dashwood, everyone's attention shifted to Janna.
Only Darwin, because of Ms. Dashwood's words, felt deeply affected.
Ms. Dashwood mentioned... a stand-in lover.
"It's nothing; I'm a bit tired," Darwin said, opening his arms and embracing Fiona.
Fiona patted his back with a smile. "Weren't you just saying you wanted to go for a walk? If you're tired, we don't have to go."
"I want to go," Darwin replied without hesitation.
He enjoyed walking with Fiona.
Except for bedtime, it was the most relaxing time for Darwin every day.
"How about just five minutes of hugging?" Fiona suggested.
Darwin nodded and hugged her tighter.
After hearing snippets from Mr. Soloman Sr. and Ms. Dashwood, Darwin felt like he couldn't wait any longer for his memories to return.
He needed to find out what had happened between him and Fiona through other means.
Before going for a walk, Fiona glanced at Chicago.
To her surprise, she overheard Chicago making a phone call at the door.
Chicago asked, "Principal, has Eleanor gone home?"
"She's at your place. Did she enjoy dinner?"
"Alright, I asked Mommy, and if she agrees, I'll come over for dinner at your place." "Principal, can I ask you quietly, did Eleanor's mom abandon her?"
The other end's response was unclear.
Chicago fell silent for a while.
Her voice lowered. "Principal, if I had agreed to Eleanor's mom's request from the beginning, would things have turned out differently?"
After a conversation on the other end, Chicago's tone brightened. "Principal, rest assured, our choir won't mess up!"
"You should rest early; good night!"
In the room.
After confirming Eleanor's situation, Chicago let out a long sigh.
At that moment, Fiona lightly knocked on Chicago's door.
"Sweetie, can I come in?"
Chicago immediately ran to the door, smiling as she opened it.
Fiona thought about the sad question Chicago had asked the principal earlier and felt a pang of heartache.
"Who were you talking to on the phone just now, babe?" She cupped Chicago's chubby face in her hands and gently rubbed it.
Chicago thought for a moment.
She didn't hide it from her mother. "I called the principal. A classmate didn't show up this afternoon, so I wanted to check on them."
"Eleanor?" Fiona held Chicago's hand and entered the room.
Chicago was shocked. "Did Dad say something?"
"Yes." Fiona nodded. "Dad was worried about your mood, but he's not good at comforting, so he had to turn to me for help."
Chicago buried her head in Fiona's arm.
She sighed deeply. "I truly am one of the luckiest kids in the world. Eleanor's mom is so scary. She cries and causes a scene, even slapping Eleanor in front of so many people."
Chicago paused. "The school's unfamiliar board members all know how important a child's dignity is. They won't let others know who the sponsored children are, but Eleanor's mom just loudly announced it in front of everyone..."
"Do you want to help Eleanor?" Fiona asked gently.
Chicago nodded lightly.
"Dad and Mom will do our best, but... Chicago, everyone has their own fate. We can only do what we can. The outcome may not be as expected. Don't blame yourself, okay?" Fiona gently touched her cheek.
"Okay!" Chicago nodded vigorously.
"Good girl." Fiona hugged her. "Go take a bath."
"Are you going for a walk with Dad?" Chicago asked.
"Yes," Fiona smiled and nodded. Dad wants to play Frisbee with you and Jessie."
"Great!" Chicago replied.
Fiona left Chicago's room.
In the small living room, she saw Darwin waiting.
The moon was bright that night.
Jessie lay by the shore, lost in his world.
He happily nibbled on the snacks Darwin absentmindedly fed him.
Some crumbs fell to the ground.
Jessie used his paw to push them into the lake.
The goldfish immediately swam up to eat.
Watching this, Jessie was so happy that his tail almost left a blur in the air.
After playing for a while, Darwin's phone rang.
Fiona looked over.
"It's from Ms. Dashwood," Darwin said.
Fiona took the phone and answered.
"Mr. Solomon, as you instructed, we have personally shown Ms. Dashwood the scene of her husband celebrating with another woman at an expensive western restaurant, embracing each other." The voice on the other end was the bodyguard who had been watching over Ms. Dashwood during the day.
"And then?" Darwin inquired.
The bodyguard seemed to grit his teeth. "This woman has no brains!" "
