Chapter 295 Desperate to Wed Mr. Solomon

"It could go the other way around..." he muttered, anger seeping back in. "So, when will you divorce? When will you marry me? When can I move in with you and the kids? Then there'd be no need to split the days!"

"Take it easy."

Fiona cupped his cheeks, trying to calm him down. With such agitation, how could he think clearly with the bruise still fresh on his mind?

"I'm not getting any younger," Darwin leaned against Fiona's shoulder. "Marry me soon..."

Fiona shook her head, half upset, half amused.

"Mr. Solomon, are you that desperate to get married?"

"I've been desperate for five years, Mrs. Solomon. You're just too late in noticing," Darwin said sullenly.

Fiona leaned down and kissed him softly.

The discontent and bitterness on Darwin's face melted away.

"Don't worry, I keep my promises – I'll definitely marry you."

The moment was perfect.

Darwin pulled her close for another kiss, but then his phone rang.

"Who is it now!" Annoyed, Darwin reached for his phone, and just then, Fiona's rang too.

"What a coincidence?"

Fiona raised an eyebrow slightly.

Her heart skipped a beat as she checked the caller ID. She looked at Darwin, and they answered their phones almost simultaneously.

"What's up?" she asked.

Darwin coldly dropped one word, "Speak."

"Mr. Solomon, your wife had an accident in Singapore. Her car plunged off an overpass, and the local police are currently retrieving it."

A flicker of shock crossed Darwin's face.

Fiona, watching him, was also listening to her call.

"Chelsea, when our team found Anniston at the airport, she'd just gotten into a rental car. During the chase, the car lost control and plunged from an overpass into a river. The salvage team is working on it now."

"Got it."

Fiona hung up after a brief response.

"Why would she be in Singapore?" Darwin asked the person on the other line.

"The details are unclear. She went to the airport early this morning, didn't tell anyone."

The calls left a chilling silence as both faced the unexpected twist in their day.
"Pull it out of the water, then get back to me," he instructed, then hung up the phone.

"Darwin..." Fiona called out to him.

"Anniston's gone," Darwin stated, his face turning ashen.

"I know," Fiona replied, her voice steady.

Darwin looked at her, "That call you just took..."

"You remember Burl, the hacker, right?" Fiona locked eyes with Darwin, her resolve evident despite the tragic turn of events that had not spared Anniston. She had planned to wait until Darwin was better before breaking the news, but it couldn't be helped now. "After our accident, Burl spent days tracking down the cell signal used by the hitman."

"Anniston?" Darwin furrowed his brows.

"Yeah," Fiona nodded.

"Why didn't you tell me?" he asked.

"First, I wanted to wait until you had recovered. Second, there were too many strange things about it all. I thought maybe Anniston was being framed, so I wanted to investigate further to avoid accusing the wrong person."

"And today's incident..." Darwin's frown deepened.

"It wasn't me," Fiona asserted, her tone carrying a chilling certainty. "Today, she left the country without reason. My people were indeed keeping an eye on her, and yes, they were pursuing her when the accident happened. But I'm absolutely certain, the accident that involved Anniston was no mere coincidence. Someone wanted her silenced."

Darwin was about to speak when a piercing headache overtook him.

"Darwin!" Fiona exclaimed, pressing the nurse call button urgently.

After the ensuing commotion had subsided, only Fiona and Darwin remained in the room.

"I didn't tell you because I was afraid this would happen," Fiona paused. Their painful separation had ultimately stemmed from Darwin's lack of trust in her. And now, the circumstances were far too coincidental — Anniston's accident occurring while her people were in pursuit...

"Darwin, whether or not you believe me, I have no reason to harm Anniston. This wasn't an accident caused by my people chasing her."

Darwin caught his breath, then grasped Fiona's hand, "What are you thinking? I never doubted you."

"Really?" Fiona hesitated before asking.

"Of course!" Darwin reassured her, "With the Rhoads family's resources, if we wanted Anniston out of the picture, it could have been done without leaving a trace. Besides, you've been advocating for her."

"It's not just about advocating. That hitman is vicious. I can't risk capturing the wrong person while the real culprit stays hidden, possibly waiting for another chance to harm someone I love."

Especially with Charles and Chicago so young and vulnerable.
Janna was getting on in years, as were Ashton, Burl, and Dagmar...

"I know," Darwin whispered, wrapping her in a gentle embrace. "Sorry for freaking you out earlier; I was in a hurry and I didn't mean to scare you."

Fiona remained silent.

After a moment, Darwin added, "I think I still need to make the trip to Singapore."

"I just spoke with the doctor. It's possible, but not recommended. How about I go instead?"

Darwin shook his head. "It's alright, I'll just be extra careful."

Fiona couldn't win the argument with Darwin.

Eventually, they compromised.

They decided to wait until Anniston's car was retrieved from the water before heading there.

However, the salvage operation was proving to be difficult.

The river, which flowed into the sea, was both wide and swift.

Anniston had plummeted right into its center, where the waters ran deep.

News of Darwin's mother's accident hit the internet before nightfall.

The initial overseas reports spoke of a tourist from Armie County plunging into the Central River with their vehicle. Later, someone online revealed the identity of the tourist from Armie County.

Soon, based on the information shared, people recognized the tourist as none other than Darwin's own mother.

"Another incident related to the Solomon family? Just half a month ago, Darwin narrowly escaped death in an explosion, and now his mother is gone like this. Not to mention his grandmother passed away earlier. It's all quite chilling!"

"Is this a power struggle within the Solomon family? Are their feuds really that brutal?"

"The comments about a power struggle make me laugh. Anyone who's kept an eye on the Solomon family knows that it's Darwin's show now. Who could challenge him for control? Plus, his mom and he weren't on the same page. If you ask me, it's more likely they were set against each other. Obviously, Darwin came out on top!"

"And I'm not into conspiracy theories, but haven't you noticed? All these Solomon family calamities seemed to start when a financial tycoon's heir got involved with Darwin. So, is this some sort of elite level monopoly game?"

The internet was abuzz with various speculations about the incident.

After dinner, Fiona asked the doctor for some sleep aids to help Darwin rest.

Affected by the medication, Darwin fell asleep early but was restless throughout the night.

Fiona stayed by his side, softly soothing him until late into the night.

Ashton, who had been away on business in the neighboring city, rushed back.
