Chapter 49 Stay by my Side

Fiona's heart did a little flip.

She'd totally cut ties with Darwin.

What kind of crap was he still spewing?

Wasn't he supposed to be all high and mighty?

"Don't give me that look." Darwin planted a kiss on her lips.

Fiona turned her head away, disgusted.

He didn't even get mad.

"Fiona, you're not alone," Darwin said slowly, "Your friend Thalassa..."

"Darwin!" Fiona shouted.

Darwin chuckled. "Oops, I mean your bestie Thalassa."

"Don't you dare hurt her!" Fiona shoved Darwin, her voice cracking with tears.

"If you behave, no one gets hurt." Darwin grabbed her wrist, pulling her close, his tone surprisingly soft.

But Fiona felt a chill run down her spine.

Darwin continued, "That Dagwood guy, and the programmer. Especially your grandma's caregiver. She's got a laundry list of issues. If I really dig in, she could rot in jail. Oh, and the Solomon Group is gonna invest in the Teodora Group. Soon, I'll be the big boss there."

Darwin's eyes sparkled with a grin. "Did you know Harold has an older brother? His dad's secret kid. Think with my help, he could snatch the Teodora Group from that loser Harold?"

"Darwin, you're such a jerk!" Fiona spat.

"Hold up, there's more." Even though Darwin hadn't found Fiona these past few days, he'd dug up a lot about her. "Your smartwatch charity project for blind kids."

Fiona felt a shiver all over.

Back in college, she had volunteered for a bit.

She'd accidentally gotten involved with the blind kids' community.

Later, she found out a tech team wanted to make smartwatches for blind kids to help them be more independent.

At that time, her grandma wasn't spending much money anymore. Darwin was head over heels for her and had given her a ton of cash.

Fiona had donated almost all of it to the project and had also roped in a lot of investment.

Now, lots of blind kids were using the watches.

Fiona said, "Darwin, those kids have it rough already, you..."

"As long as you behave, I'll invest more and get a top-notch team to help develop them," Darwin said seriously, "Fiona, you just need to stay by my side and not cause any trouble. Everyone around you will be fine."

Fiona stared at Darwin.

A massive wave of despair crashed over her.

Against such raw power, what could she do to fight back?

"How could you be this kind of person?" Fiona's tears fell.

She had actually liked him.

Fiona felt utterly disgusted.

She covered her mouth.

Her stomach churned.

"Stop the car!"

Darwin noticed something was off with Fiona and called for the car to stop.

Fiona flung the door open, stumbled out, and puked her guts out.

Darwin watched, frozen.

He never thought Fiona would be this repulsed by him.

But what could he do?

After her disappearing act, Darwin was more certain than ever that he couldn't live without her.

No matter what, she had to come back to him.

He'd stop at nothing to make it happen.

Fiona vomited until she was completely drained.

The driver squatted next to her, handing her a bottle of water.

Fiona glanced at him.

The driver hesitated, then said, "Ms. Woods, Mr. Solomon's been a wreck, can't eat or sleep, always looking for you. Please, don't be mad at him."

Fiona rinsed her mouth.

Her hand pressed against her lower abdomen.

How could she go back to Darwin?

Her belly would grow day by day, and he would find out sooner or later.

Fiona thought, 'Stay calm, you gotta stay calm. You'll find a way out! There has to be a way.'

She steadied her breathing and then slowly stood up.

The driver, seeing her swaying, feared she might faint and reached out to support her.

Fiona dodged him.

She turned back, spotting Darwin sitting in the car, staring at her like he was waiting for her to make a choice—the only choice.

She lowered her head, went back to his side, and continued to be his obedient mistress.

Fiona felt like an empty shell.

She slowly walked back and sat next to Darwin.

Darwin's lips curled into a satisfied smile.

"First, come with me on a business trip to Capital City, then back to Bay City," he said, "From now on, you'll live in Heaven..."

Heaven Residence was Darwin's home.

"No!" Fiona refused without thinking.

Darwin's face darkened. "Then move back to the apartment."

"I have a place to stay now!" Fiona said firmly.

"Thalassa's dump?" Darwin asked.

Fiona glared at him.

"You got two choices: live with me or move back to the apartment!" Darwin said decisively.

Fiona kept telling herself inside, 'Killing is illegal. And I can't beat him.'

She looked away, gritting her teeth in compromise. "The apartment."

Darwin thought for a moment.

That apartment held more memories of them.

If Fiona lived there long enough, she would remember more of the good times.

Then he nodded. "Fine."

After that, Fiona didn't speak.

Soon, Dagwood called her.

She ignored Darwin and answered.

"Fiona."

"Dagwood, it's just like he said, I have nothing to explain." Fiona's tone was cold. "I'm sorry."

Darwin frowned.

What did she have to apologize for?

There was a moment of silence on the other line.

"My words always count," Dagwood said slowly.

Fiona froze.

What words?

"I understand." She was afraid Darwin would notice something, so she responded lightly.

"My boss will cover your medical expenses. I'm very sorry about today," after speaking, Fiona hung up.

"Did you hear that?" She looked at Darwin. "Medical expenses, lost wages, give it to him."

Darwin sneered, "Fine. It's up to you."

Fiona lowered her eyelids, hiding the overwhelming exhaustion in her eyes.

Soon, she followed Darwin to Capital City.

"Mr. Solomon, congrats!" the rep from the partner company immediately congratulated Darwin on his engagement.

Darwin instinctively glanced at Fiona. She had changed back into her professional attire.

She stood behind him, expressionless.

The negotiations began.

She walked straight to Darwin's secretary's seat and sat down.

She opened her laptop, ready to take meeting notes.

Darwin watched, his restless heart finally settled.
