Chapter 190 Pairing Up Uncle And Mommy!
"Where are Charles and Chicago? Haven't they woken up yet?"
Janna was still holding a suitcase, and without asking, one would know that besides her luggage, the suitcase undoubtedly contained gifts for Charles and Chicago.
Almost every time, Janna did the same thing.
As they were talking, Charles came downstairs, shuffling in his slippers.
Seeing Janna, Charles froze. He had originally planned to fly away tonight.
Now that he had seen Grandma Janna, it seemed he might not be able to leave.
Janna ran towards Charles and scooped him up in a hug.
She smothered his face with kisses, "I've missed my precious so much, haven't seen you for so long!"
After showering him with several more kisses, Charles called out to Grandma Janna and then looked at Fiona.
His eyes were filled with a silent plea, "Help!!"
Fiona couldn't help but laugh through her tears.
After 'saving' her son, she said, "Go and get Chicago. She's probably still lying in bed, refusing to get up."
"Okay."
Although Janna was kind to her great-grandson, she had an even bigger soft spot for her granddaughter.
Janna hurried upstairs.
Charles sighed and said while wiping his cheeks, "Looks like we can't leave now."
"There, there, Grandma Janna will take you all around for some fun, can you keep us company?" Fiona consoled Charles.
Charles could only sigh inwardly.
He couldn't tell his mommy the real reason he wanted to leave Armie Country.
It would make Mommy sad and scared.
"I understand," Charles lowered his gaze and nodded listlessly.
Chicago, always upbeat and one who never skimped on sleep, was genuinely tired after her big day yesterday. She even slept more soundly than usual.
She had a particularly lovely dream.
It was about a beautiful meadow under a blue sky dotted with white clouds. Mommy stood among pretty red flowers.
She and her brother ran towards Mommy, laughing while her brother ran a little faster.
Soon he was enveloped in Mommy's embrace, but she tripped just as she was about to reach her. Before she had a chance to feel pain, a pair of large hands lifted and held her.
"Where did Chicago hurt herself? Let me see," said the person.
Chicago turned to see who it was.
Such a handsome face! If not uncle, then who could it be?
No, not uncle. It's Dad!
"Daddy! My knee hurts!" Chicago tearfully told her dad.
Mom also came over, holding her brother.
"Honey, how could you be so careless? How could you let Chicago fall?"
"I'm sorry! Don't be mad. I'll be careful next time!"
Chicago looked at Dad, then Mom, and started to giggle.
As she laughed, she heard someone calling her.
"Chicago."
Hmm?
Grandma Janna?
Her beautiful dream ended there as she rubbed her eyes open to see Janna's smiling face.
Chicago blinked twice as she mumbled, "Such a beautiful dream, everyone was there!"
"What dream?" Janna asked affectionately.
"I won't tell you!" Chicago, in high spirits, rolled around in her blanket.
Indeed, she didn't have a father, and Mommy didn't have a husband. Uncle said he was single.
Then why couldn't Mommy and uncle get married?
That way, Chicago would have a dad, Mommy a husband, and uncle a beautiful wife!
Just thinking about it felt wonderful!
"No more sleeping, get up. I've bought you a gift, you know!"
Chicago snapped back to reality.
Slowly she turned, and then her eyes lit up, "Grandma Janna!!"
She let out a cry, wriggled out from the blankets, and flung herself into Janna's arms, rubbing against her like a kitten. "You're finally here. I missed you so much!"
Janna's nose tingled with emotion. "I missed you too!"
They nuzzled each other affectionately for quite some time until Fiona, having changed her clothes, came through the door.
"Mama!" Chicago called out gleefully, "It's Grandma Janna!"
Fiona's smile was radiant. "Yes, it is."
"Are you going to work now?" Chicago asked.
"Yeah, but I'll be back early tonight." Fiona stroked Chicago's cheek. "Before I return, you and your brother will need to help Grandma Janna, okay?"
At the realization of a reality less pleasant than the dream, Chicago's joyful heart sank a little.
Her brother's words from yesterday echoed clearly in her mind.
"What's wrong?" Janna sensed the shift in Chicago's mood.
Fiona also noticed her smile collapse.
Chicago shook her head. "I'm hungry..."
"It's because you stayed up too late! Let's go, I'll take you to have breakfast!"
"You should let her walk by herself," Fiona suggested.
"Grandma Janna, Mommy is right. You're not as strong, and I'm very strong now. If you fall, it's okay if I get hurt, but if you get hurt, I'd be so sad!"
Janna laughed heartily.
Fiona laughed uncontrollably. "Please listen to her. I really have to go now."
"Go on with your business," Janna waved her off.
Just as Fiona was about to leave.
"Wait a minute," Janna turned to Fiona, "I've heard about Sophia's issue, and the cooperation with the White family, you can end it if it's possible."
She knew about Sophia's situation, which also included the fact that Sophia was now in an asylum.
"Sophia is responsible for her actions and as long as it doesn't breach the cooperation agreement, it should proceed as normal," Fiona stated calmly.
"You're too principled! My granddaughter should not have to suffer even a bit. If she does, we must return that tenfold!" Janna was clearly displeased.
Fiona gave Chicago a look.
Chicago immediately clung to Janna's neck swinging it. "Grandma, let's go have breakfast quickly, and then I'll take you to the little park to meet my friends!"
Seeing this, Fiona promptly left the scene.
"You just want to cover for your mother!" Janna tapped Chicago's nose.
"But isn't it you, Grandma, who said I should protect Mommy? I take your words very seriously!"
Janna melted with affection, peppering her with kisses before the pair, young and old, hand in hand, went downstairs for breakfast.
Then came the unwrapping of gifts.
Janna bought Charles all top-of-the-line IT components, and he was ecstatic about them. The gift for Chicago, however, was far more extravagant.
"Oh wow, so shiny..." Chicago gazed at the custom princess tiara nestled in the velvet box, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
Just then, Ashton, who had woken up late due to a hangover from the night before, came downstairs looking disheveled. Seeing Janna didn't seem to surprise him at all.
"Grandma Rhoads!" Ashton despaired, "Why did you buy Chicago such a huge piece of diamond jewelry again?!! You just promised that you wouldn't buy any more until she was of age!"
