Chapter 491 I'll Always Stand by Your Side

Kenny took a piece of peppermint candy from the bedside table, unwrapped it, and popped it into his mouth. The coolness didn't subdue the anger and irritation weighing on his heart.

He thought, ‘Maybe just silently killing all these people would be better.

‘The bodies could be disposed of.

‘No one would ever find out.’

Thalassa, not seeing a reply, sent another message, "From the middle of next month, I can take a week off. Shall we visit Jessie then?"

Kenny released a quiet sigh.

Life stretched out endlessly before him.

His only hope of keeping Thalassa in the dark was to ensure the complete disappearance of any evidence linking him to the elimination of those individuals.

If she were to learn the truth, she might recoil from him in fear.
Thalassa was very distracted tonight.

After replying to Kenny's message, she continued to slump on the bed, staring at the ceiling and zoning out.

Moments later, her phone buzzed.

Instinctively, she thought it was Kenny calling.

However, when she checked, it was an unknown number.

She hung up without hesitation.

However, the call was persistent.

After a moment of thought, she decided to answer and find out the caller‘s intentions.

Upon answering, both parties were silent.

Thalassa hesitated, the weight of the silence on the other end of the line feeling strangely familiar. It was a silence pregnant with unspoken words, a silence that hinted at an underlying tension. In that moment, Thalassa's mind raced, piecing together the identity of the caller on the other end of the line.

"Don't hang up!" Chris's voice came through, laced with urgency.

"What do you want?" Thalassa asked in a low tone. "I believe I've made it clear not to bother me anymore."

"It's about Mrs. Maria," Chris said gravely.

"What happened to her?" Thalassa asked, her voice carrying a hint of coldness.

They had just spoken on the phone today.

She sounded normal.

Chris took a deep breath before saying, "My dad's got a mistress. He and Mrs. Maria had a fight and a scuffle tonight..."

Thalassa sat up immediately upon hearing this.

"She fell and cracked her head open, but don't worry, I've taken her to the hospital. The cut wasn't deep, and it's been stitched up..."

"Has Justin lost his mind?" Thalassa exploded. "He's conning money from my mom while having an affair and committing domestic violence? Is he asking for a death wish?"

"Calm down," Chris coaxed softly. "I didn't call to upset you... I've tried persuading your aunt to get a divorce, but she won't listen. I think..."

Thalassa froze. "When did you do that?"

"Just now..." Chris answered reluctantly.

"Even after being hit, knowing her husband’s cheating, she still doesn't want to leave him?" Thalassa asked.

Chris remained silent.

The fury that had risen in Thalassa flickered out.

She licked her canine tooth and chuckled, "Then, let's respect her choice. You don't have to call me anymore to report on her. I don’t care."

Just as Thalassa was about to hang up, Chris didn’t want to let go.

It felt like a century since he had last spoken to Thalassa.

"Wait!"

"What else is there?" Thalassa asked icily.

"You just said, my dad had Mrs. Maria swindle money from you?" Chris pressed. "What do you mean by that?"

"Literally what I said," Thalassa replied.

"How much? When did this happen?" Chris continued.

Thalassa laughed, "Over seven million. Asking all these details, are you going to have your dad to pay me back?"

Chris choked on the other end.

"If it's not about returning the money, there’s nothing else to talk about. Goodbye." Thalassa abruptly ended the call.

With that, she blocked another number.

Thalassa seethed with anger, her emotions leaving her feeling parched. Tossing her phone aside, she descended the stairs to quench her thirst with water.

Downing several glasses in quick succession, she turned around to find Kenny leaning against the doorway of the dining room, arms folded, his gaze fixed on her.

"Did I wake you?" Thalassa muttered, setting down her glass.

"What’s wrong?" Kenny approached. "Four glasses in one go, aren’t you going to overdo it?"

Thalassa lowered her eyelids and pondered.

Chris's call had left a frown etched on Thalassa's face. "Chris just called me."

A glint of frost passed through Kenny's eyes. "What, coming back to beg?"

"No," Thalassa exhaled in defeat. "Justin cheated, and he got physical with my mom, said she cracked her head open too."

Before Kenny could even respond, Thalassa burst out, confused and furious, "I just don't get her. She's been with good men before; my dad treated her like she was the only one in the world! Having experienced the finer things in life, wouldn't it be natural for her to shun the unpleasant ones? What is she even doing?"

"Want to go check on her?" Kenny asked.

"No." Thalassa shook her head. "If I go and see her clinging to that trash Justin, I'll lose it!"

Kenny raised his hand, gently gliding it down Thalassa's back. "Then let's not go."

"Justin's trash, complete trash!" Thalassa ground out through clenched teeth. "No, I can't just let this go!"

"What do you want to do?" Kenny's voice was laced with patience.

He was in a surprisingly good mood, perhaps because Thalassa had opened up to him about Chris's call and the incident with Maria.

"I want someone to beat him up," Thalassa declared without hesitation.

"Alright, then should I—" Kenny started.

Thalassa was already heading out the door. "No need for you to find someone, I'll handle it myself!"

Kenny, who always prided himself on staying neat and clean, wouldn't lower himself to help someone like Justin.

"Okay," Kenny conceded.

He followed Thalassa upstairs. Thalassa picked up her phone with a quick pace, found Easton's number noted as 'Easton from Downtown', and dialed it right away.

"Easton, I need you to handle someone for me. Beat him hard, but don't kill him."

After issuing the command, Thalassa turned to find Kenny leaning against the door, arms crossed, watching her with an amused smile.

"Come here," he said, extending his hand to her.

Thalassa moved closer. "You realize now that I can be pretty fierce, right?"

She put on a tough façade.

Kenny took her hand. "Yeah, I realize. Can you get fiercer?"

"I can." Thalassa nodded, then prodded Kenny. "Are you scared?"

Kenny shook his head and gently kissed Thalassa. "From now on, don't worry about scaring me or making me dislike what you're doing."

Thalassa paused for a moment, taken aback. No one had ever spoken to her that way before. Chris would usually say, “Could you please be good and not make trouble for me?”

"Sweet talker. Wait until I actually go through with it, and you see my darker side or I start causing you trouble, then you'll get annoyed," Thalassa said, her gaze dropping.

Kenny paused, momentarily caught off guard.

Kenny had a realization. It wasn't a matter of distrust that prevented her from sharing the financial situation with him. It was the fear of adding to his burdens.

His heart clenched painfully, a mixture of hurt and anger flooding through him. If she held such beliefs, it was likely because someone else had treated her in a similar manner.

"No," Kenny said tenderly and sincerely as he looked at her. "We're husband and wife; you are me, and I am you. I'll never find you burdensome, and I will always stand by your side."
