Chapter 625 Catch
Christopher stewed in frustration as he pondered his predicament.
As someone who had assassinated numerous high-profile individuals, he considered himself a seasoned professional.
Initially, he entertained the notion of a straightforward snipe-and-run operation.
However, after scouting the area, he swiftly dismissed the idea as impractical.
The security perimeter surrounding Emerald Pool, the residence of his targets, proved dauntingly impenetrable.
Despite his expertise, suitable vantage points were scarce, especially with the children adeptly avoiding any potential sniper nests. Adding to the challenge were the expert bodyguards of the Solomon family, who maintained a vigilant patrol schedule, ready to detect any aberrations.
Christopher was facing the biggest challenge of his career.
However, Christopher’s knew he had no choice but to to carry out the mission, otherwise, the child he had adopted would die!
Although killing a child was cruel, compared to killing his own child, it was better.
As he strolled past the main gate, a plan materialized in his mind.
Halting abruptly, he feigned interest in the art nearby, biding his time.
Soon enough, a family arrived, providing the perfect cover amidst of the crowd.
When the crowd got closer, he immediately used them to block nearby surveillance and swiftly slipped through the gate.
Inside, besides the flashing lights on the control box, it was pitch black.
Christopher knew that once the person who was observing him lost track of him, they would immediately search for him, and he hastened to disable the main gate.
He wagered that even the most astute of bodyguards would falter once he vanished from their sight, banking on that sole moment of vulnerability to achieve his objective.
However, before Christopher's hand reached the switch, his was accosted, thrust into an intense fight.
Christopher had been raised in an environment where survival was paramount, he was no stranger to close combat.
In the blink of an eye, searing pain coursed through him as darkness engulfed his senses. Moments later, Xavier loomed over him, the aftermath of their skirmish etched on his battered visage.
The unexpected ambush left Xavier reeling, his thoughts a whirlwind of confusion and frustration.
‘Damn, where did he come from? Why was the attack so vicious?’
As he left, Xavier encountered Mike rushing towards him with two companions.
"What happened to your face?" Mike inquired, taken aback by Xavier's appearance.
Could it be that he encountered the suspicious person Stuart had mentioned?
"Mrs. Solomon asked me to catch someone. Damn it, I wasn't paying attention and got ambushed by him!" Xavier stubbornly avoided acknowledging his defeat in the altercation.
Mike's expression turned serious. "This person was really ruthless. You should go to the hospital immediately. He may have a fracture in his face!"
Xavier was stunned by Mike's assessment. If Mike said it was a fracture, then it was likely true!
"I'll go as soon as I report back. What are you guys up to?" Xavier inquired.
"Stuart asked me to keep an eye on a suspicious person, but I lost him."
However, Mike confirmed that the person hadn't left the venue yet.
He had checked the surveillance footage carefully, leaving no stone unturned.
Mike was convinced that their elusive adversary must still be in the vicinity, either concealed or cunningly disguise.
"A suspicious person?" Xavier raised an eyebrow and thought for a moment. "Come with me, I'll show you if it's this person."
With determined strides, Xavier led Mike to the control room. Pushing open the door, they were met with the sight of a man tied up resembling a makeshift mummy.
"It's him!" Mike exclaimed in shock.
"This is the one who ambushed you? The one Chelsea asked you to catch?"
"Yeah!" Xavier nodded.
Xavier's face contorted with pain as he registered the likely fracture in his cheek. In frustration, he kicked Christopher in the leg.
Moments later, Xavier sought out Fiona.
“What happened to your face?” Fiona exclaimed.
Xavier recounted the encounter with Mike, relaying the altercation with Christopher.
"He really has some issues, huh?" Fiona's eyes grew cold.
Meanwhile, Fiona's thoughts drifted back to a disconcerting revelation from the previous night.
After Fiona returned to Emerald Pool, she made her way to the wine cellar to prepare for the celebration following the art exhibition.
While selecting wine, she glanced up at the pendant light above the sofa area, which was originally from the villa.
Although it was also beautiful, it clashed with the ambiance of Emerald Pool.
She suddenly thought of the pendant light that had been taken down at Chicago’s art exhibition.
That pendant light would be much more suitable than the current one.
Determined to rectify the mismatch, she promptly tasked Stuart with arranging its delivery.
True to form, Stuart was extremely efficient, ensuring the pendant light arrived at Emerald Pool within two hours.
Meanwhile, Fiona was still at the art exhibition with Chicago, coordinating the installation with the lighting fixtures seller.
Little did she know, her plans took an unexpected turn when the seller reached out with a troubling revelation. "Madam, is it possible that the hanging rope of this pendant light was mixed up? It looks the same on the surface, but it's not the original one. The rope also has some other issues. It won't last long if hung up and it will surely fall. Please find the original rope from our factory."
Alarmed by the implications, Fiona inspected the rope upon returning home, discovering subtle yet ominous cuts.
Faced with the chilling possibility of sabotage, Fiona contemplated the consequences had the light remained hanging—an unsettling thought that sent shivers down her spine.
Shortly after, Fiona immediately recalled the behavior of the worker tasked with removing the light. His sudden reluctance, followed by a frantic urgency upon learning of Stuart's intention to seek assistance, raised red flags in Fiona's mind.
Fiona was furious and immediately asked Xavier to locate that person, only to find him vanished into thin air.
When Xavier was at a loss, he unexpectedly saw Christopher, who looked completely different, at today's exhibition.
