Chapter 580 A Medical Miracle
"Babe, are you okay?" Thalassa rushed over to Fiona, her scrutiny landing on the interview with Lilian that Fiona was watching. A fierce frown contorted her face, her brows pressed together as if they were about to fuse in concentration.
"Why are you watching this trash?" She grumbled.
"I need to know what she's saying so I can be prepared," Fiona replied calmly. "I suspect it won't be long before she comes looking for me."
"Looking for you? What for?" Thalassa asked with a touch of annoyance. "If she dares to show up, just have Mike and the guys give her a thrashing and dump her into the pond at the park. Let Darwin fish her out—that should repay her for saving his life!"
Fiona couldn't help but chuckle at her suggestion.
"You're laughing? I'm livid!" Thalassa tossed her Hermès carelessly onto the bar and crossed her arms as she settled into a seat.
Meanwhile, the video interview was drawing to a close.
“Lilian, do you have anything else to say to Darwin and Fiona?”
"The reporter really pushed my buttons," Thalassa said, frustrated. "If I ran into her outside, I'd definitely give her a smack. Who does she think she is trying to split up a couple like Darwin and you?"
Lilian stared at the camera. A tear dripped from her eye at just the right moment.
"I'll stand by what I've said," Lilian paused, speaking deliberately, "I know Darwin, he'll probably issue a statement denying this soon, but the fact that I am carrying his child won't change. I am willing to take a DNA test anytime to prove it."
"Darn! She's so cunning," Thalassa couldn't help but laugh bitterly. "Now that she's said this, Darwin's denial won't mean a thing, right?"
Though that was said, it wasn't long before a joint statement from Solomon and the Rhoads family hit the trending topics.
It was succinct and to the point.
It completely refuted everything Lilian had said in her interview. Moreover, it clearly stated that Darwin never had any intimate relationship with Miss Lilian.
After the release of this statement, the online community was abuzz with shock.
[I am confused about what to say. What kind of 'good guy' image is Darwin trying to uphold? He's been tangled up with Fiona for over a decade. Before Fiona came back, there were multiple rumors about him marrying Lilian and sightings of her at his place. Now he's claiming he's never touched Lilian? Does he think we're all fools?]
[Honestly, hasn't Darwin denied his relationship with Lilian more than once? At a dinner with our company's boss, when Darwin introduced Lilian, he always referred to her as a colleague.]
[Just because he denies it, that doesn't mean it's not true!]
[Look at his history with Fiona. When they got exposed online, Darwin immediately acknowledged his relationship with Fiona across all social platforms. According to you guys, Lilian was his first love, the apple of his eye. If he really was with her, I can't believe he wouldn't be flaunting it online.]
[Let's all calm down. This isn't about something trivial. There's a child involved. A simple DNA test will clear up who's lying.]
Lilian was in her hotel room, reading the comments from netizens.
To be honest, the majority were against her.
She wondered what sort of spell Fiona had cast on these foolish online commenters.
They were all vilifying her and Darwin.
She became the innocent party.
She turned off her phone, took out a picture of Darwin, tilted her head, and looked at it with a morbid fascination. "Darwin, do you like this birthday present?"
Meanwhile, another phone lay discarded on the floor.
Calls kept pouring in, all from international numbers. Simon was still asleep when the butler barged in, frantic with news of Armie and jolted him awake. Seeing Lilian on TV, crying and begging Darwin to take responsibility for their child, Simon's head exploded with rage.
Lilian had deceived him—again.
He dialed her number repeatedly, but she didn't pick up a single call. Enraged, Simon almost destroyed everything in the room.
"I need to go to Armie! Arrange it now! I'm going to drag Lilian back and make her pay for lying to me!"
"Mr. Simon, you don't have a visa...," the butler said tremblingly.
"Then, get it done, expedite it! As fast as possible!"
While Simon was losing his mind, Lilian was in a fairly good mood, figuring the scandal had sufficiently brewed. She pulled up a number saved under Fiona and scowled at the name. Anger consumed her as she realized how Fiona, that despicable woman, had made a fool out of her.
Gritting her teeth viciously, Lilian made the call.
At that moment, Fiona and Thalassa were watching Chicago and Stuart building a greenhouse. The two were busy at work when Fiona's phone rang. Glancing at the caller ID, Fiona announced, "It's her."
Thalassa immediately looked up. "Lilian?"
Fiona gestured for silence and walked away from Chicago before answering the call.
"It's been a while, Fiona," Lilian's voice came through, arrogant and challenging. "My mistake, I should call you by your full name, shouldn't I? Fiona Woods."
"It seems my name being Fiona is quite a shock to you," Fiona said with a laugh.
"Proud of your lies?" Lilian sneered.
Not one to back down, Fiona hit back hard, "You're quite the story yourself; I heard that you had your uterus removed, and now you're pregnant? What a medical miracle!"
Lilian was taken aback. Perhaps, Darwin had told her about that.
"I don't know what you're talking about... Did Darwin tell you? That's laughable. Was he sleeping with me while telling you that my lack of a uterus wouldn't threaten your position to comfort you?"
Now that things had come to this, she had nothing to lose. Her goal was to stir up as much trouble as possible between Fiona and Darwin, to ensure their lives were far from peaceful.
Fiona remained unfazed. "Lilian, when I think about it, I do feel quite sorry for you. Darwin truly loved you, and it was touching to see. I always thought it would be nice if you two could get back together."
There was silence on the other end of the phone.
"Now, you've become the person he despises the most, which is truly sigh-worthy," the voice on the other end said.
"If it weren't for you, it would never have come to this!" Lilian roared with fury.
Fiona held the phone away from her ear for a moment, waiting for Lilian to quiet down before bringing it back to her ear. "Lilian, you're pregnant, you can't afford to have such intense emotional swings. It's not good for the baby."
"Oh, cut the act, Fiona. Haven't all the fights you've had with Darwin been because of me? You married him six years ago, and yet you ran away like a loser the moment you found out I was back, didn't you?" Lilian accused.
"Or have you forgotten how recently, at Klein Mansion, Darwin completely disregarded your feelings just to defend me?" "
