Chapter 1400
Sometimes, Fiona couldn't even stand to think about it.
Darwin had come back safe and sound, and their family was living a peaceful, ordinary life. But one day, that illusion shattered, and he died brutally right in front of Fiona.
Or what if Aiden and Marisole's tragedy repeated itself?
Fiona's family, her kids, would endure a lifetime of pain and darkness.
Just thinking about it made Fiona feel that Rose deserved the harshest punishment imaginable.
"No... I don't want to go to the mental hospital!" Rose shook her head frantically, pleading with anyone who would listen. "Grandma, please save me! I promise I'll never do it again!"
Christopher had had enough.
He knocked Rose out and dragged her away.
In the end, Rose was handed over to Darwin's men.
They, along with Christopher, took her to a renowned mental hospital.
Later, Fiona did keep her promise to Hubert.
Rose spent the rest of her life in that mental hospital. She didn't live to a ripe old age, but she did reach 72.
Hubert visited her a few times.
Fiona never asked what he did during those visits, but every time Hubert left, Rose's mental state worsened, and she became more and more hysterical.
When Hubert took Leto away, Leto thought he was finally free.
But once back in Cyberia, Leto was almost immediately taken by the local police.
Even though he hadn't caused any physical harm, the local laws were strict, and Leto was sentenced to seven years in prison and fined a hefty sum.
His parents had supported him through his PhD, and now, not only was he imprisoned and fined, but he also lost his professional credentials.
Hubert didn't keep this a secret from the rest of the research team.
Privately, everyone was shocked.
Not just by what Leto and Rose had done, but also by how harshly Hubert had acted, given his usually soft-hearted nature.
They had expected Hubert to, at most, fire Leto, not send him to prison.
This incident gave everyone a new perspective on Hubert.
It made them all more meticulous in their work, not daring to make even the smallest mistake.
Once everything was settled, Hubert went to Darwin's hospital room late one night after leaving the lab.
Darwin's room was always stocked with fruit from Armie. With winter here, it was mostly citrus fruits lately.
Hubert sat down, silently peeled a tangerine, and slowly ate half of it.
"Is something wrong?" Darwin asked.
Hubert let out a long sigh. "Thanks to your wife's good fortune, I finally figured out the problem that had troubled my father for so many years."
"What?" Darwin's face was still pale, but his eyes showed a hint of pride, as if to say, "That's just how amazing my wife is."
Hubert caught the message and smiled slightly before answering, "Aiden's sudden violent outburst wasn't an accident. It was caused by someone."
