Chapter 550 Wish Fulfilled
After hanging up the phone, Thalassa's face was flushed, bright as a ripe red apple.
Fiona, holding a wine glass, teased her with a look, "It seems I can rest easy now."
"Rest easy about what?" Thalassa mumbled.
"That you've really taken to Kenny."
Fiona's biggest worry was whether Thalassa could move on from the hurt that Chris had caused her.
"Kenny has given me his heart; it would be horrible not to reciprocate," Thalassa answered seriously.
Fiona's eyes curved into crescent moons as she laughed.
"But there's something I don't quite understand." Fiona sobered up after a moment. "From what you've told me, you and Kenny got married after only two or three encounters, and Kenny's proposal went smoothly. Yet, in his retelling, it seems he overcame a lot of difficulties to become your husband."
"That's right..." Thalassa blinked.
"Maybe Kenny says that to others? To make me seem more precious?"
Fiona shook her head. "Others might do that, but if Kenny says it, he surely believes it."
"That's right..." Thalassa nodded thoughtfully.
"You said before that you met Kenny through a land deal?" Fiona asked.
Thalassa nodded in confirmation.
“Why was Kenny selling that land piece anyway? And such a prime spot, did he ask for a high price when he listed it?” Fiona continued to inquire.
“It was around market value, but the broker mentioned there might be room for negotiation.”
“That must be a joke, right? A location like that should command above market value, and you’re saying Kenny’s willing to haggle?”
“The broker said Kenny needed to free up some cash.” Thalassa finished, finding the notion ridiculous himself. It was hard to believe Kenny would be short on funds.
After all, Thalassa had experienced firsthand Kenny’s financial prowess the very first time he visited, reflected in the ten-million-dollar check he had casually offered.
“Kenny needed to free up cash, and then, after marrying you smoothly, he doesn’t take a penny. Instead, he presents himself to you as a gift,” Fiona said, raising an eyebrow.
Thalassa looked puzzled. “Are you saying Kenny knew I wanted to buy the property, so he approached me about it?”
“It’s pretty obvious.” Fiona nodded.
“But I asked Kenny if he had been harboring a crush on me for a long time and was just waiting for me to break up with Chris… He said that wasn’t the case.”
“Hmm… It doesn’t seem like you two had much opportunity to meet before.” Fiona considered, swirling the liquor in her glass for a moment before slapping her thigh in realization. “We’re not going to figure this out here. Just ask Kenny when he gets back!”
“Right.”
Thalassa checked the time.
“I need to get to bed. I lost a lot of time today because of Crystal, and now everything’s backed up until tomorrow.”
“Okay.”
Thalassa downed the rest of her drink and hurriedly left.
Not long after, Darwin finished putting Chicago to sleep and came looking for Fiona.
“Why did you drink so much?” he asked, noticing the two empty bottles on the coffee table and frowning slightly.
Fiona’s alluring eyes seemed to glaze over in a drunken haze, but not quite, as she reached out her hand to Darwin.
His expression immediately softened as he took her hand in his, squeezing it gently before sitting down beside her.
Fiona leaned back on the sofa.
“I rarely get the chance to have a few drinks with Thalassa, and now you’re spoiling it?”
“Is this what you call a few drinks?” Darwin asked with a smile.
He took the nearly empty glass from her hand and placed it on the coffee table, then pulled Fiona into his embrace.
“Charles and Chicago are starting school soon, and I’d like us to visit Serene City before that,” Darwin said softly. “We still haven’t told your mother and your grandparents about our marriage.”
The light in Fiona’s eyes dimmed a bit.
“You want me to take you to meet my family?” Fiona asked.
Darwin nodded affirmatively.
Fiona pinched her chin and looked down thoughtfully. "Let's wait for another time. There's plenty of time ahead of us. We'll find an opportunity."
After saying those words, it seemed Fiona didn't want to give Darwin another chance to argue.
She leaned down and kissed Darwin.
It wasn't just a simple peck on the lips; it was a passionate kiss.
Darwin immediately responded in kind.
Mostly, it was Fiona who had been drinking the wine on the table.
She could hold her liquor quite well.
She felt just slightly tipsy, her thoughts floating in the air, the atmosphere becoming incredibly romantic.
"Darwin, does your head still hurt?" Fiona asked, pulling away from their long, heated kiss.
She looked at Darwin, his eyes reddened, his breathing quickened, as if he was brought back to countless past nights.
Without any distractions, their many romantic nights were perfectly in tune.
Darwin shook his head, his actions answering Fiona's question more than words could.
Then, he kissed her again.
"We should go back to the room..." Fiona struggled to hold onto her last bit of rationality.
Grinning, Darwin teased her, "Fiona, what we didn't finish here, we should continue right where we are."
Fiona was startled.
Darwin's kiss deepened.
While embracing Fiona with one hand, he groped for the remote control on the sofa's end table, locking the wine cellar door with it.
Then, he tossed the remote aside.
He wrapped both arms tightly around Fiona.
Even though they had been together for six years, they still knew each other the best.
Outside, the sun was slowly rising.
Fiona lay exhausted in Darwin's arms, the hair on her forehead damp with sweat.
"Darwin, will you ever age?" she asked weakly.
Darwin smiled proudly.
He kissed Fiona's fingertips, laying his hand over hers. "You worked hard, Fiona. I'll be more careful next time."
Fiona chose to ignore the smugness evident in his voice, too fatigued to engage in an argument. All she desired at that moment was to sleep uninterrupted for three days and three nights.
After a while, taking advantage of the fact that everyone else in the house was still asleep, Darwin carried Fiona back up to the second floor using the elevator.
Darwin carefully cleaned Fiona up before tucking her into bed.
By then, Fiona had already fallen asleep.
Darwin conveyed to his assistant that he wouldn't be attending the office that day. Then, with evident joy, he embraced his wife, showering her with multiple kisses. For him, this day seemed like an eternity in the making.
It was Charles who woke up Chicago that morning.
Sitting up, Chicago rubbed her eyes in confusion. "Where's Daddy?"
"Daddy's still not up," Charles responded.
"What about Mommy?" Chicago rubbed her eyes, searching for Fiona.
"Mommy hasn't gotten up either."
Chicago blinked and said, "Charles, Daddy has led Mommy astray. Mommy used to be an early riser, not a lazybones who can't get up when the sun shines on her butt."
Charles thought for a moment. "That's true..."
"Good morning, babes!"
Suddenly, Burl appeared.
Chicago's eyes nearly popped out in surprise. "Burl, you're actually up, and even earlier than me!"
Burl was speechless.
"My teacher had minor surgery, and Burl and I are going to visit him," Charles explained.
"The bald Chris?" Chicago vaguely remembered the person.
Charles was at a loss for words, but nodded.
"I want to go too!" Chicago immediately raised her hand.
Charles pondered. Couples need their independent time. It's not conducive to the growth of a relationship if they don't have that.
"Then, Chicago, hurry up, get dressed, have breakfast, and then we'll head out!"
