Chapter 52 It's a Pity He Didn't Become a Gigolo
Fiona kept her mouth shut.
Darwin had her in a tight spot.
And there he was, shirtless.
He always ate right and hit the gym.
So yeah, he was ripped.
Fiona had been crushing on him until she found out he was getting hitched.
Two years back, Wyatt had this girl hanging around, super flirty.
She loved tagging along with Fiona.
One day, she got all secretive and said she had something cool to show Fiona.
She whipped out her phone and showed a bunch of dudes in boxers.
"New club, all hotties," she whispered to Fiona, "Wanna check it out while Darwin's away on business?"
Fiona scrolled through the pics.
She wasn't into it.
Not that she was some saint, but those guys? They had nothing on Darwin.
Darwin was in a league of his own!
That girl wouldn't give up and even sent Fiona the album.
Darwin found it right then and there.
After that, the girl vanished from Fiona's life.
At first, Fiona thought Darwin had offed her and freaked out for a while.
Later, she found out the girl was some big shot's illegitimate daughter.
Her dad was old but spoiled her rotten.
She wasn't dead, just probably got a good scare.
"What’s so funny?" Darwin asked.
Fiona was buttoning up his shirt.
Thinking about that girl, she smirked, and Darwin noticed.
Fiona cleared her throat, trying to get under his skin.
"Mr. Solomon, those male escorts who aren't half as good-looking or built as you go for fifty grand or a hundred grand a night. What a pity." She shook her head, pretending to be bummed.
Darwin was always on his high horse, born with a silver spoon.
Comparing him to male escorts? He should be fuming, right?
He should flip out and kick her to the curb!
Darwin grabbed her chin, not too hard.
His thumb traced her jawline gently.
"You didn’t spend a dime sleeping with me,, and I even paid you. What’s there to pity?" His eyes were intense, his voice smooth.
Fiona felt her knees go weak.
No wonder Darwin was a business whiz, the way he spun it, it kinda made sense.
"You think I’ve got a good body?" he pushed.
Fiona stayed quiet.
"Think I’m good-looking?" Darwin pressed on.
"Time’s ticking, I need breakfast." Fiona dodged his intense stare, which seemed to see right through her.
Darwin sighed deeply by her ear.
Then he wrapped an arm around her waist and nibbled her earlobe. "I’d rather have something else than breakfast."
Fiona was speechless.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
"I’ll get it!" She darted out of the closet, making a quick escape.
Darwin stood there, laughing so hard his shoulders shook.
When he realized how happy he was, he was a bit taken aback.
Such a morning, even if he didn’t get what he wanted, his mood was sky-high.
Since five years ago, Fiona had been his fix.
Darwin came out after changing his clothes.
His shirt buttons were half-done, and he was holding a tie.
He looked less dignified and more like a laid-back rogue.
Fiona had never seen him like this.
He was always so put-together, and she’d always be the one to help him with his tie.
"Breakfast." Fiona slid his plate over.
"Is it something you like?" Darwin sat down, lazily draping an arm over the back of the chair.
"I'm not picky," Fiona replied.
Darwin frowned, tapping the table. "Answer my question. Like it or not? I need to know your preferences so I don’t give you stuff you hate in the future."
"I like freedom," Fiona shot back.
Darwin chuckled coldly, "Staying by my side, you can do anything. Isn’t that freedom?"
Fiona rolled her eyes.
Seeing this, Darwin laughed.
He leaned forward a bit, watching Fiona slowly eat her pancakes. "Not pretending to be obedient, kinda cute."
Fiona almost choked, glaring at Darwin.
Darwin tapped her nose. "You seem to like eating sweet and fluffy things."
Fiona was slightly stunned, then looked away.
"Not really," she lied.
She had always liked sweet and fluffy foods since she was a kid.
Her grandma always said it was good, that she’d grow up to be a sweet girl.
Too bad she grew up halfway and went off track.
Her personality was more stubborn than anyone's, and her looks had nothing to do with sweetness.
After breakfast, Fiona changed into a classic black and gold Chanel suit.
She put on light makeup and, to annoy Darwin, curled her long hair into big waves.
She instantly looked way more glamorous and charming.
"Your hair." Darwin looked at her long curls.
Fiona interrupted, "I naturally have curly hair. I straightened it because Ms. Robbins has straight hair..."
Before she could finish, Darwin said, "It looks good."
Fiona was stunned.
"But this way, I don’t look like her." She felt like instead of getting to Darwin, she was the one getting affected.
Darwin pulled her over, placing her on his lap. "From now on, you don’t need to look like her."
Fiona was confused.
If she didn’t need to look like Lilian, then why did he keep her around?
Fiona wore a pair of pearl earrings today.
They complemented her skin, looking really beautiful.
Darwin had seen Fiona wearing pearl earrings at a yacht party and thought they suited her well.
He had someone buy a pair yesterday.
The more Darwin looked at her, the more he liked her.
Before leaving, he pulled Fiona up again, pressed her against the door, and kissed her lipstick off.
Because Darwin was overwhelmed by lust, the meeting was delayed by an hour.
At nine o'clock, Darwin and Fiona entered the conference room one after the other.
Everyone in the conference room was dressed neatly, but each had dark circles under their eyes and looked pretty worn out.
In contrast, Darwin looked completely refreshed.
"Mr. Solomon..." Manuel stood up.
Darwin sat down, not even looking at him. "This case, Ms. Woods will be in charge. Talk to her."
Fiona was silent.
After dragging things out all morning, couldn’t he have said this earlier?
"Yes." Manuel suppressed his discontent, smiling at Fiona. "Ms. Woods, you're a truly capable assistant to Mr. Solomon, simply amazing. We checked carefully last night, and indeed, there was a problem with the report!"
