Chapter 1397
"You didn't listen to a single word of my warning, did you, you idiot?" Wyatt sneered, his eyes full of disdain.
Rose looked at the faces in front of her, faces that had once been friendly, now twisted with malice and disgust. Fear surged through her.
"It's not what you think!" Rose said earnestly, looking at everyone. "My mom said that with that kind of illness, death is the only real relief. For Fiona and her child, it's like defusing a ticking time bomb!"
"Darwin almost killed her, didn't you know?" she added.
Everyone there, except for Janna, knew about that incident. But...
"Are you seriously trying to slander Darwin at a time like this?" Wyatt's tone was mocking. "How stupid can you be?"
"Exactly!" Thalassa glared at Rose and said, "Fiona has been so good to you! She took you in, knowing what your mom did, to keep you from following in her footsteps. She tried to show you the warmth of our family. Even though you were incompetent, she still gave you projects to help you improve. But this is how you repay her?"
Thalassa looked like she wanted to kick Rose.
Leto, after processing all this information, quickly explained to Fiona, "Mrs. Solomon, I had no idea Rose gave me a toxic substance. She told me you were bullying her and that switching the medication would just delay Mr. Solomon's recovery a bit, to make you suffer longer!"
Leto was shy and not very tall. He never had many female friends. When he joined Hubert's lab, he was immediately smitten with Rose. To him, she was always kind and gentle. She was polite to him, even though he was just a lowly pharmacist. When she wasn't working, she was either at the orphanage with Hubert or volunteering at the animal shelter.
When Rose suddenly disappeared from the lab, Leto was frantic. After contacting her, he heard about her tragic past and how Fiona had been oppressing her. His heart ached for her, and he despised Fiona's tyranny.
So, when Rose asked for his help to get a little revenge on Fiona, he agreed without hesitation. After all, kind-hearted Rose just wanted to delay Fiona's husband's treatment slightly. And if Leto did this, Rose would agree to date him.
Leto didn't hesitate. It seemed like a win-win situation. He never imagined that the so-called half-finished medication would turn out to be poison! He couldn't bear to think what would have happened if Fiona hadn't discovered it and the toxic substance had been injected into Darwin.
"Shut up!" Rose shouted at Leto in panic, then turned to Fiona, desperately explaining, "I lied to him. I really did feel the warmth of a family from you, and that's why I decided to end your suffering! Mrs. Solomon, Thalassa is wrong. I'm grateful for everything you've given me. I'm doing this to repay you! I want to save you from future misery. Darwin doesn't deserve you!"
By the end, she was almost screaming, "Have you forgotten how he treated you like a substitute, like a commodity to be humiliated and trampled on? Even without the illness, just for those things, he deserves to die, doesn't he?"
Fiona was stunned.
"You and your mother are both shameless," she scoffed. "Because someone gave you warmth and stability, you think you have the right to destroy their life? What did Odette and I do to deserve dealing with people like you?"
"I'm not like my mom. She loved Aiden and was jealous of my aunt's happiness with him. She destroyed what she couldn't have. But I'm different. I don't want anything from you. I genuinely want you to have a normal life!" Rose pleaded, tears streaming down her face, her eyes full of sincerity.
Everyone present frowned at her words.
"Believe me..." Rose looked at Fiona with tearful eyes.
Fiona's face was cold as she spoke mercilessly, "For me?"
Rose nodded repeatedly.
