Chapter 1383

In a flash, Darwin, who’s usually as cool as a cucumber, got all jittery.

Standing there in his hospital gown, his pale face made his suddenly red eyes look even redder. He glanced around, clearly on edge.

"Darwin," came Hubert's voice from behind.

Darwin spun around and croaked, "Did she come?"

Hubert gave a slight nod. "She just left."

Darwin's shoulders slumped, his face clouded with sadness. "You should've told me she was coming. I don't want her to see me like this."

"Mrs. Solomon was on a business trip and just dropped by. I didn't know either," Hubert said, steadying Darwin by the arm. "Don't worry; you just look a bit thinner, but you're still as handsome as ever."

Darwin went quiet again.

Hubert helped him back to the ward.

"Did you see her just now?" Hubert asked, curious.

Darwin shook his head.

Hubert pressed, "Then how did you know?"

Darwin paused before saying, "I could feel her presence in the wind."

Hubert was taken aback.

Fiona had come in without makeup, and Hubert hadn't caught a whiff of any perfume.

"Hubert, when can I see her?" Darwin asked, his voice rough.

Hubert tucked him in and said, "When your hallucinations and delusions are completely gone. I believe it’ll be soon."

Actually, Fiona hadn’t left. She was hiding nearby, her heart breaking as she watched Darwin search for her.

Mike escorted the tired Fiona out.

"Mrs. Solomon, if you really want to see him, it shouldn't be a big deal to meet once," Mike mumbled, sensing her sadness.

"What do you think is Darwin's biggest motivation for treatment here?" Fiona asked, staring at a bare tree by the roadside.

"It’s you!" Mike blurted out.

Mike hadn’t told Fiona that Darwin had chosen some pretty intense treatment methods.

It wasn’t that Mike was on Darwin’s side now, but he genuinely felt that Darwin’s existence had caused Fiona a lot of pain.

Darwin should do this for Fiona!

He wasn’t like Fiona, who treated Darwin like a precious gem that needed utmost care.

"That’s why I can’t see him," Fiona said calmly. "I can’t let him or his hallucinations and delusions think I’ll soften. I want him to know he has to get better to come back to me, and I want those hallucinations and delusions to know I won’t be their ally until they’re gone."

"Got it!" Mike replied, though he didn’t really get it.

But his principle was simple: if Fiona and Janna said so, they must have their reasons.

"Last time, you helped me a lot with the grave-digging incident. Is there any reward you want?" Fiona changed the subject.

"It was my duty!" Mike straightened up immediately.

"When we went to Blaise's hotel project last time, I noticed you liked it there," Fiona said.

Mike scratched his head, embarrassed. "I don’t remember much from my childhood, but I vaguely remember being born by the sea. The sea in my dreams looks a lot like that place."

Fiona smiled. "Alright, Darwin and I have a large private area there. I’ll set aside a piece for you to build a beach house."

"Really?" Mike was over the moon.

Fiona said, "When have I ever lied?"

Mike said, "But it’s really expensive there!"
