Chapter 1387
At the end of the year, Fiona was juggling company stuff and making sure to visit Grandma Carey at the hospital twice a week.
She and Kenny had flown in specialists from all over the world to Bay City to come up with the best treatment plan for Grandma Carey.
After more than two weeks in the hospital, the day finally came for Grandma Carey to go home.
Fiona had just gotten back from a business trip to the capital city and headed straight to the hospital as soon as her plane landed. These days, Fiona took Rose with her everywhere.
When Rose heard that Fiona was going to pick up Thalassa's grandma from the hospital, she was all in.
At the hospital, Rose was super considerate and proactive. She suggested that Fiona stay in the room to chat with Thalassa's grandma while she handled the discharge paperwork.
Thalassa couldn't help but praise Rose to Fiona, "Her work skills might not be as strong as Laura's, but her attitude is top-notch. With the right training, she could really go places."
Fiona nodded with a smile. "I'm training her well. I take her everywhere. There's a new project at the energy company. If she passes the assessment at the end of the month, I'll let her lead the team."
Thalassa assumed Fiona was talking about a performance or work assessment.
Still, she was surprised. "The project at the energy company is a big deal, but it's also really tough. Do you think she can handle it?" she asked.
"Whether she can or not, we'll find out once she tries," Fiona said, slicing an apple and offering a piece to Carey with a smile. "Grandma Carey, this apple is sweet. Try it!"
Carey had always been fond of Fiona.
Back when Thalassa was still with the Shaw family, if it hadn't been for Fiona's protection, who knows how much Carey would have suffered.
It was also Fiona who revealed Thalassa's true situation in the Shaw family to Carey.
Carey had always remembered Fiona's kindness.
But as she got older, there wasn't much she could do for the kids. Thalassa and Fiona were both very capable.
Carey could only shower her love on Charles, Chicago, and Melissa.
During holidays, she would always give them pocket money.
At that moment, Carey took a bite of the apple. Recently, the medication had left a constant bitter taste in her mouth. The sweet and tangy apple juice helped with that.
"How is Mr. Solomon doing lately? I heard he's been out of the country?" Carey asked Fiona with concern. "Is his health still not good?"
"Grandma..." Thalassa quickly interjected.
But Fiona kept smiling gently. "He's had some health issues and has been getting treatment abroad for the past few months. But he's almost fully recovered and should be back by the end of the month if all goes well!"
"That's wonderful! Just in time for the New Year!" Carey nodded with a smile.
Thalassa looked at Fiona in shock.
She hadn't known about this.
But she didn't question Fiona in front of Carey.
Outside the room, Rose had overheard the conversation between Fiona and Carey while holding the discharge papers.
At the research institute, there had been fewer updates about Darwin lately.
Hubert's lab had been sealed off, and Leto, the pharmacist, could only enter during specific times each day.
However, Rose had asked a nurse she was friendly with.
She had been very tactful, saying that Armie's New Year vacation was coming up, and she wanted to plan a trip and invite the nurse along.
Before long, the nurse sent her the entire month's vacation schedule.
What did this mean? It meant Darwin was really going to be discharged.
"Mrs. Solomon, Ms. Carey, all the paperwork is done," Rose said, knocking on the door as she entered.
