Chapter 1299

The notary had just wrapped up counting the votes.

Lucian, feeling pretty sure he'd won, finally sat up straight and shot a cold look at Wyatt.

"Alright, let's get to the vote count," the notary said, then started calling out names one by one.

The shareholders whose names were called automatically had their votes counted for the people they backed.

At first, a bunch of names were called in a row, all votes going to Lucian. He'd just had a rough patch with Wyatt, but he quickly got his cool back, sat down, and looked all calm and confident.

But it didn't last long. Things started to shift.

More people were siding with Wyatt, but their share percentages were low, so Lucian still had a big lead.

Lucian's chances of winning still looked good.

Before Fiona showed up, she didn't really get Wyatt's plan.

Seeing the situation, she instinctively glanced at Wyatt.

Wyatt seemed distracted, like he wasn't even thinking about the vote.

As the number of voting shareholders dwindled, the screen showed Wyatt's support still trailing Lucian by seven to eight percentage points.

Luckily, three back-to-back supporters showed up at the end, closing the gap to three percentage points.

Then, there was just one vote left to be announced.

This person was sitting on Lucian's side, named Whitlock, an old member of the Durham Group.

Lucian was super confident.

Zebedee held three percent of the shares and supported Lucian, so that three percent was definitely his.

But before Lucian could even process it, the notary called out Zebedee's name, and the bar representing him didn't change.

Instead, Wyatt's bar slowly rose, eventually matching Lucian's.

"No way!" Lucian and Samuel said at the same time.

Samuel even stood up. "This vote is wrong. Zebedee supports Mr. Montgomery. This vote should be Mr. Montgomery's!"

"Yes," the notary replied calmly, "His three confirmations all voted for Wyatt."

To avoid accidental touches, the voting machine needed three presses to count a vote.

"Zebedee?" Lucian looked at Zebedee, shocked.

Zebedee looked back at Lucian and shrugged with a smile.

"Mr. Montgomery, it's all for the Durham Group. You shouldn't have thought about selling the Durham Group to foreigners. My family has worked with the Durham Group for generations. Even though the Durham Group doesn't have the Whitlock name, we're deeply connected. Expecting me to agree to you selling the Durham Group, especially to foreigners, is impossible," he said firmly.

Lucian struggled to hold back the urge to punch Zebedee.

There'd be plenty of time later to deal with those who betrayed him. For now, dealing with Wyatt was the priority.

"Tied." Fiona's voice sounded like a whisper from the depths of hell.

Lucian always found it odd that even though Fiona and Darwin had shares in the Durham Group, according to the Durham Group's rules, they couldn't participate in major decision-making votes at the headquarters.

As soon as Fiona spoke, Lucian's heart started to panic.
