Chapter 1391

The gloom hanging over Chicago didn't stick around for long.

With Melissa around, joy came easy.

Just holding Melissa's tiny hand or giving her a kiss could lift Chicago's spirits for a while. When they got to Charles, he was just stepping out of school, surrounded by a bunch of kids.

No surprise, Charles was the top student in his grade again. This year, he aced every competition he entered, snagging all the top honors.

The school was thrilled.

They treated Charles like a prized possession.

His stellar results were the best promo for next year's admissions. From a distance, Frank and his buddies saw Fiona and started waving like crazy, each one more excited than the last.

Evelyn was the first to spot Melissa.

Her eyes lit up like she'd seen the cutest thing ever, and she jogged over but kept a respectful distance. "Oh my gosh, she's adorable!"

Chicago quickly introduced her, "This is my godmother and godfather's daughter, Melissa!"

Chicago's tone was full of pride.

"Melissa is the cutest baby in the world!" she added.

Thalassa laughed happily.

Melissa loved seeing Thalassa happy, so whenever Thalassa laughed, Melissa would look back at her and giggle along.

The girls immediately showed expressions of adoration, like they were looking at a cute little animal.

Charles spotted Melissa.

It was hard to tell what he was thinking.

He quickly urged everyone to get in the car and head home, saying goodbye to his friends more casually than usual.

Once the car doors were closed and they had been driving for a while, Thalassa couldn't help but laugh. She said, "Charles, I'm not the type to publicly declare you're my future son-in-law before you're even an adult!"

"Godmother..." Charles said, exasperated.

Fiona laughed heartily.

She asked Charles about his plans for the winter break, changing the subject.

When they got back to Emerald Pool, Charles got out of the car and looked around.

After Fiona got out, he walked over to her and took her hand. He asked, "Mom, where's Charlotte? She was always with Chicago before."

"You don't know?" Fiona was surprised.

"What?" Charles looked up, confused.

"Charlotte left with your Uncle Christopher last night for a winter camp! She won't be back until school starts," Fiona explained.

Charles nodded. "Okay."

He didn't ask anything more.

Grandma Carey had gone out and was a bit tired. Chicago took her hand and led her to the guest room, earnestly reminding her to rest well, or Chicago would worry.

Grandma Carey couldn't stop smiling while talking to Chicago, her cheeks aching from the constant grin.

When Rose saw Fiona and the others return, she hurried over.

"I wanted to make some of my specialty dishes, but Lydia wouldn't let me into the kitchen," Rose said, a bit aggrieved. "I make a great roast lamb; even Hubert, who usually doesn't care about food, always eats several pieces."

"Really?" Fiona was surprised. "I didn't know you could cook."

Rose replied, "I can make a lot of things! Besides roast lamb, I'm good at other dishes too!"

"Darwin is the only one in our family who loves foreign cuisine. When he comes home on Monday, you can cook a meal," Fiona said casually.

Thalassa looked puzzled.

Darwin was extremely picky.

Was Fiona letting Rose cook for Darwin?

Thalassa was very confused.

With the kids on break, the house became lively.

But without Charlotte, Thalassa felt a bit out of sorts.

Charlotte didn't talk much and didn't have a strong presence, but her absence was noticeable.

However, without Charlotte and Christopher around...
