Chapter 1185

"No." Fiona steadied herself, trying to sound normal. "Maybe I didn't sleep well last night. You go ahead to the restaurant. I'll be there soon."

"Okay, no rush," Darwin replied gently.

Fiona heard him, but it felt like a knife to her heart.

The call ended.

"Mike, you've been working hard these past few days. Go home and get some rest," Fiona said, pausing. "Rest up, because you might not get a break for a while."

Mike nodded.

After a moment, he said, "Chelsea, the Rhoads Group and I will always have your back, no matter what happens or what you decide."

Fiona smiled and nodded.

Mike left.

Fiona sat in the car, feeling like an invisible hand was choking her.

After calming down, she headed to the restaurant.

As soon as she parked, she saw Xavier.

She still hoped the videos Mike found were about another side of Darwin.

Fiona got out of the car. "Xavier."

Xavier turned, looking upset.

"What happened? Where's the kid?" Fiona asked.

"I didn't pick him up. Mr. Solomon called, said the kid came on his own, and scolded me," Xavier said, grimacing.

"How could you not pick him up? Wrong address?" Fiona asked sharply.

"I went to the address Mr. Solomon gave me, called the kid, but the number was dead!" Xavier frowned. "I dialed the number he sent me. Look."

He showed her the chat history with Darwin.

Fiona checked it.

Without a word, she dialed the number herself.

It was indeed a dead number.

It was hot at noon, but Fiona felt like she was in an icy abyss, shivering.

"Mrs. Solomon, are you okay?" Xavier asked, noticing her pale face.

"No," Fiona waved him off. She walked straight to the elevator.

Maybe it was just a wrong number.

Didn't Xavier say the kid came on his own?

Fiona quickened her pace.

Xavier had to jog to keep up.

They entered the elevator.

They headed to the restaurant, where Darwin was waiting in the lobby.

"Honey!" Darwin rushed to Fiona.

"Mr. Solomon," Xavier said, looking down like a scolded child.

Darwin glanced at him, clearly annoyed.

"Xavier said he didn't pick up Rex. Did he come on his own?" Fiona asked, looking behind Darwin. "Where is he? Has he arrived?"

It felt like an eternity, but it was just a moment.

"Not here yet," Darwin said, pursing his lips, a sign of his anxiety. "He said he'd be here ten minutes ago, but now no one is answering the phone."

Fiona tried to steady her trembling hand. "Can you call again?"

Darwin nodded.

He dialed the number marked as Rex right in front of Fiona.
