Chapter 572 A Change of Name?

Passionate questions flew from netizens.

"Am I the only one wondering what exactly Darwin did to drive Secretary Woods to escape through faking her own death?"

Someone replied below, "What else could it be? Haven't you read those novels where initially a guy bullies his wife, then chases her relentlessly in utter agony? It's either trust issues, or that Darwin's truly a madman, tormenting the poor woman emotionally, physically, and spiritually!"

"Remember his first love now? I remember that around that time, Darwin's first love (Darwin used to see Fiona as her surrogate) got divorced and returned to the country."

"Oh right, I forgot about that. So are we saying that Secretary Woods left heartbroken because of the first love's return?"

"You guys are impressive, threading the story together just like that!!"

"So another question arises – does Darwin truly love his first love or Secretary Woods? This is crucial to me!!"

"Obviously Secretary Woods. His first love was by his side for five years without any official status, but the moment Secretary Woods came back, Darwin was eager to marry her!!!"
Under that comment, someone replied mockingly, "It's rediculous. If Fiona hadn't come back with her kids, Darwin wouldn't have married her."

Someone at once took a screenshot of a tweet from Darwin's Twitter, where he professed his love was for his wife only, and posted it in response to the skeptic.

"To all the fans of first lover's, I pity you," came the comment with the screenshot. "During these five years, she's published countless articles about being with Darwin, and he hasn't even looked her way. Yet you're still dreaming?"

Somewhere on a vacation island in Europe, the room was pitch-black except for the faint glow from a cellphone screen.

Lilian sat biting her nails. As she read the scathing comments online, hatred etched across her features. Compared to when she left her homeland, she looked healthier, more rounded, and notably, there was a small swell on her abdomen.

"Fiona is just Fiona!!!" Lilian seethed through clenched teeth.

Not long ago, when the Thalassa family's events made headlines, Lilian had noticed that Darwin and Fiona both attended the funeral. The media buzzed with speculation; Fiona was Thalassa's best friend. Lilian had assumed Fiona was just accompanying Darwin since Thalassa was now Kenny's wife.

The whole best friend narrative seemed like mere media hype to Lilian.

Or perhaps... like Darwin, Thalassa took a liking to Fiona simply because she looked like Fiona.

Lilian also believed that Darwin's admission that Fiona's two children were his was simply for decency.

But when she learned that the stupid kis Darwin once favored was actually Fiona's Chicago, Lilian had a furious breakdown.

Ever since then, she had been eagerly anticipating Darwin's and Fiona's reactions once they found out about the child she was carrying in her womb.

With these fantasies, Lilian had spent a comfortable few months on the island.

Then the boomshell dropped.

"It can't be!!! Absolutely impossible!!!" Lilian threw her phone away and began screaming hysterically.

Moments later, the door burst open, the lights flicked on, and Simon, wearing nothing but shorts, rushed in anxiously.

"What happened?" he asked.

Lilian, with tears in her eyes, turned to Simon. "Simon, I want to go back home."

"Go back home?" Simon frowned, visibly perplexed, glancing briefly at Lilian's slightly protruding belly.

When Simon had first learned of Lilian's pregnancy, he had wished every day for the child to disappear.
If Lilian hadn't insisted so vehemently, that child in her womb probably would have been aborted.

"I had a dream about my mom," Lilian said through sobs, "I want to go back to visit her grave and also to find out what happened to my brother."

Simon looked at her. She was so heartbroken. He asked, "You're not planning to see Darwin, are you?"

"Why would I go see him when he's married?" Lilian suddenly became agitated, "I just want to visit my mom's grave. Why can't you trust me? If you don't trust me, then maybe it's better if we break up!"

"No!" Simon quickly replied. "I do trust you. Go back, and I'll come with you!"

"No need," she said firmly, "I don't want anyone to know I'm going back. You being in Armie Country would draw too much attention."

Simon tried to speak, but Lilian became frantic again: "You just don't trust me, and you insist on following me, right?"

Simon felt helpless. "Lilian, try to stay calm, it's not good for the baby," he said softly. "If you don't want me to accompany you, then I won't."

"Simon, you're all I have now. You know that!" Lilian said, lifting her hand to gently caress Simon's cheek with a flushed face.

Simon was moved by this gesture. He caught Lilian's hand and kissed the palm, "I know."

Afterwards, Lilian gazed at Simon tenderly. However, when Simon couldn't see her face, her eyes were filled with resentment.

'Fiona! Do you think you can live a peaceful and happy life without my consent? After you've turned my life upside down, what makes you think you deserve peace and happiness?'

Resting her hand on her abdomen, she was filled with unease. 'Fiona had already given Darwin two children... How would he feel about the one she was carrying now?'

'Damn Fiona! Damn those illegitimate children!!! Why did they have to compete with her for everything?'

*
Late at night.

After Solomon and the Rhoads family's PR had communicated separately with Darwin and Fiona, Fiona collapsed onto the bed.

"Why didn't I become a celebrity?" she lamented. "With all this attention, I could've made a fortune."

Darwin walked over with a smile, extended his hand to sit her up, and then cuddled her into a comfortable position.

Fiona was at his disposal, resting her chin on his shoulder. She hesitated and said, "You didn't need to post that tweet. Look how many people are criticizing you."

"I'm the one at fault, and I'm the one who deserves the criticism," Darwin whispered. "Honey, I was really a jerk back then... I hurt you so much that you were so resolute..."

Fiona fell silent for a moment. "Let's not talk about the past, okay? Didn't we agree?"
Fiona didn't consider herself a magnanimous person.
She couldn't forget the things that had happened in the past.
Every time she thought about it, she still harbored resentment towards Darwin for his heartlessness at that time.
But.
How to put it?
She saw the changes in Darwin with her own eyes.
He changed because of her.
No matter what others said.
She made him change, she should be the one to enjoy the results.
"Yeah."
Darwin held Fiona tight.
"By the way, it seems that there's something we have never discussed," Fiona said with a hint of seriousness.
A sense of panic suddenly overtook Darwin.
He then heard Fiona ask, "Charles and Chicago still have the last name Rhoads, do you want to change that?"
The formal names of Charles and Chicago.
