Chapter 1157

Even with the crowd, Darwin could still spot Rex, tears streaming down his face.

"Dad?" Chicago tugged on Darwin's hand.

Darwin glanced at her, then looked back. Rex was gone.

"What's up?" Fiona asked, noticing they hadn't caught up.

Darwin scanned the area but saw no sign of Rex.

"Nothing, I could be mistaken," he said, smiling at Chicago. "What did you say, sweetie?"

"Dad, you've been so distracted! The teacher said our essay is about a day outdoors. Weren't we going camping?"

"Yeah, your mom and I are planning it. I'll check with her about the dates."

"OK!"

Chicago let go of his hand and ran to Fiona, hugging her arm.

"I thought you only loved your dad now," Fiona teased.

"I love both of you!" Chicago replied.

Fiona smiled and slowed down for Darwin to catch up. Chicago, full of energy, soon ran over to Stuart, who picked her up without a word.

"Chicago's such a happy kid," Fiona said to Darwin.

Darwin nodded, glancing again where he saw Rex.

"What's up? You seem distracted," Fiona asked.

"I thought I saw that kid. I'm worried. I'll call him later," Darwin said softly.

"Okay," Fiona replied, not mentioning she had sent Mike and others to the town to handle the incident and look for the kid.

Traffic was heavy near Charles' place. By the time they arrived, Charles had been waiting.

His friends were still there, gathered around him as he explained something on their iPads.

Fiona waited for them to finish before getting out of the car.

"Aunt Fiona, Chicago, hello!"

The kids greeted them cheerfully but were a bit reserved around Darwin, who looked serious.

It was getting late, and parents were waiting in nearby cars. After some quick greetings, they left.

"Charles, sorry for the delay, traffic was bad," Fiona said as Chicago grabbed Charles' backpack.

Chicago said, "Next time, let the driver pick you up after school first so I can have a little more time to hang out!"

"No need," Charles said. "What if you get kidnapped?"

Fiona laughed.

"Kidnapped? I'm not that foolish!" Chicago protested.

"Sure, it's unlikely, but we still need to be cautious," Charles replied after a pause.
