Chapter 1304
Wyatt and Alexander were like night and day.
Wyatt had his own deep feelings, but he also had responsibilities and obligations to uphold.
Alexander, on the other hand, was the kind of guy who'd drop everything for love and wait a decade for a maybe.
Wyatt, running the Durham group, had to shoulder the burdens that came with being an heir.
The restaurant was super quiet.
Wyatt picked this spot just to have a chat with Fiona.
"Don't worry, this place is mine," he said, grabbing two bottles of champagne and sitting across from her.
"Starting with drinks, huh?"
"The food's on its way."
Wyatt poured Fiona a glass and asked, "Where did Darwin go?"
Fiona took a sip.
Wyatt knew his wine.
He'd picked exactly what Fiona liked.
She took another big gulp.
Feeling pretty good, she said, "Wyatt, I need to ask you something."
"Shoot."
"Did Grandma Mitchell ever hit Darwin?" Fiona looked up at Wyatt, her words deliberate.
Wyatt was a bit taken aback. "Why are you asking this out of the blue? Did someone tell you something?"
"Just answer me."
Wyatt sat down, thinking. "You know Grandma Mitchell was always violently controlling Aiden, right?"
Fiona's face went blank. "How do you know that?"
Wyatt poured himself a glass from the other bottle.
"That was ages ago. Darwin was different back then, not so cold and bossy. He was actually pretty empathetic," he said slowly. "He was around twelve or thirteen, I think. One day, he showed up looking wrecked, with a slap mark on his face."
Wyatt pointed to his right cheek.
Fiona's hand gripped the sofa armrest tightly, almost standing up.
"He said he found out some huge secret and had a fight with his grandma. The slap was to shut him up." Wyatt looked at Fiona. "I still don't know what that secret was, but it must've been big because Darwin changed completely after that and developed a fear of being touched."
It was a big secret.
He must've found out about his true identity.
He got slapped that day.
Fiona's eyes were red.
"But he told me something else," Wyatt continued. "He said he found Aiden's old diary, and his grandma had been using violence to control Aiden mentally."
Suddenly, everything clicked for Fiona.
Why did Darwin stay quiet after learning about his true identity?
He had protested, and then got slapped.
That slap reminded young Darwin of that diary.
Brooke didn't seem to use violent mental control on Darwin.
But because of that diary, young Darwin was still haunted by Brooke's violence from over a decade ago.
