Chapter 181 Who Can't Play Innocent?
"Those rumors are false!" Darwin stated in a deep voice.
Fiona appeared indifferent, "You don't need to explain to me, it's none of my business. Now, please let go of me, otherwise don't blame me for being rude."
"Fiona…" Darwin's attitude began to soften.
He had reflected on a lot over the years. During the years Fiona was by his side, he had always been domineering, and she truly suffered.
"I'm not her!" Fiona pushed Darwin forcefully.
Darwin staggered back a couple of steps.
The person in front of him appeared very impatient and incredulous.
"Mr. Solomon, I am, after all, a member of the Rhoads family. Please show some respect. Touch me again, and I will most definitely sue you for sexual harassment!" After saying this, Fiona quickly opened the door and left with long strides.
What was that expression on Darwin's face just now? Pretending to be pitiful before her?
He had just seen another person who looked like Fiona, triggering this scoundrel's involuntary skill to find a substitute.
After Fiona left, Darwin stood frozen, his mind a jumble of chaos and emptiness.
"Don't panic." Darwin took a deep breath, muttering to himself.
Now that he knew where she was, there would be plenty of time. He mustn't scare her away again.
When Fiona came downstairs, many eyes turned her way.
"Chelsea truly is a natural beauty. Changed into another gown, she looks even more stunning!" someone praised.
Fiona smiled faintly, "It's the dress from Mrs. White that suits me well."
"Chelsea, such a kind and good girl." Mrs. White said cheerfully.
Sophia ground her teeth, seething with frustration. She couldn't hold back any longer.
"Chelsea, you must be upset, right? You didn't come down for so long. That waiter didn't do it on purpose, please forgive him."
Before Fiona appeared, Sophia had spread these words among a few close friends.
It sounded like she pitied the waiter, but in reality, she implied Fiona was petty, lacking the grace of a major family.
Fiona looked at Sophia.
Sophia wouldn't give her a chance to defend herself, her only desire now was to infuriate Fiona, "When I was very young, I heard about how one of Grandma Janna's servants accidentally wrecked her new sports car. Since the servant's family was poor and pitiable, she didn't pursue the servant's responsibility. A dress like Chelsea's isn't worth much, and if it causes trouble for the waiter..."
"The dress indeed isn't worth much." Fiona interjected coolly.
Sophia's mood lifted. She had provoked her, right?!
"What's dangerous is my wristwatch." Fiona's tone remained indifferent.
Sophia was taken aback.
Would she really be foolish enough to claim compensation from a servant in front of so many people?
"What happened to the watch?" Mrs. White asked hurriedly.
Fiona turned to her, "If it were just a diamond watch, it wouldn't matter much, but that watch was passed from my grandmother's mother to her and then to me…"
Fiona wasn't lying, but for the Rhoads family, such jewels were not in short supply.
The diamond watch wasn't that significant.
"If it has sentimental value, then it's a serious matter." a man's cool yet resounding voice came from behind.
"But the waiter didn't mean it!" Sophia quickly said.
"Miss White, in this world, the weak aren't always right." Darwin remarked coldly.
His gaze swept across the crowd, finally resting on the cowering servant in the corner. The servant shuddered.
The Miss had only instructed him to bump into the guest.
She hadn't said anything about compensation!
And it was a diamond watch!
The heirloom diamond watch from the Rhoads family would cost him more than he could ever repay if he worked his whole life!
"It wasn't me!" The servant ran over, urgently pleading.
"Fool, how dare you behave like this in front of the guests!" Sophia suddenly said as she realized something.
But it was all too late.
"It was Miss!" The servant's voice cracked as he screamed.
"It was Miss Sophia who told me to bump into Miss Chelsea, she said she wanted Miss Chelsea to make a fool of herself at the party! It was Miss Sophia who made me do it!" The servant cried out.
The gaze of the guests simultaneously fell upon Sophia.
"You're talking nonsense!" Sophia retorted and slapped the servant.
The faces of the remaining members of the White family turned ashen.
"Miss White?" Fiona covered her mouth in surprise, her beautiful eyes quickly filled with tears, "This is the first time we are meeting, and I've never offended you before, why would you do this? The Rhoads and White families have been friends for generations..."
Who else couldn't play the innocent?
"Chelsea..." Mrs. White had a huge headache.
Her granddaughter was her pampered darling. But Chelsea was Janna's favorite precious one. If Janna found out about this... given her personality... the family would definitely suffer.
"Miss. White," Fiona interrupted, her eyes brimming with tears, "Today is your and grandparent's golden wedding anniversary, and since my presence upsets Miss White, I will take my leave. When Grandmother visits Armie Country, perhaps we can have a small gathering on our own."
With that said, without waiting for Mrs. White to respond, Fiona, looking utterly distressed, walked towards the exit.
"Chelsea! What are you playing at!" Sophia was livid.
Fiona didn't look back.
The guests in the banquet hall now looked at Sophia with a hint of strangeness in their eyes.
Among them, of course, was Harold's mother, Vivian.
So, Sophia despised Chelsea that much? Then how much of what she had just told her about Chelsea was true?
Vivian glanced at Darwin. She was aware of Fiona and Darwin's relationship. Seeing Darwin defend Chelsea like that, it seemed he too had developed feelings for her.
No... for the sake of her son, she had to take the initiative!
Vivian quietly slipped into the crowd, forgoing the image of a lady, she lifted the hem of her gown and chased after her.
Upon seeing Fiona's retreating figure, she called out, "Chelsea."
Fiona stopped, turned back, the corners of her eyes slightly red, her look was one of extreme grievance, very moving.
"Madam, is there something you need?"
Vivian said affectionately, "You don't need to be so formal with me. I didn't expect Sophia to become less and less sensible as she grew up, putting you in such an awkward position."
Fiona didn't respond, just lowered her gaze.
"Let's not talk about her anymore, Chelsea," Vivian continued, "how about we exchange contact information? If you have time, let's go out for afternoon tea!" She took out her phone without giving Fiona a chance to refuse.
Fiona reluctantly added Vivian on WhatsApp.
"Are you free tomorrow morning? I know a cafe with really tasty cakes, how about we meet up?" Vivian's eagerness was written all over her face.
"Sorry, I'm quite busy these next few days."
Vivian looked disappointed but didn't lose heart. "No worries, I'll wait until you have time."
"Thank you." Fiona nodded. "Mrs. Vivian, my driver is waiting, I should be going."
"Wait!"
