Chapter 1269
After getting the invite, Rose snapped out of her funk and felt a rush of joy.
"She finally gave in!" she shouted, practically bouncing with excitement.
The bartender across from her shot her a weird look.
Just a second ago, she looked like she was at a funeral, and now she was over the moon.
The next morning, Rose woke up early, put on her fanciest suit, and grabbed a cab to the Solomon Group building.
The receptionist was already clued in that someone was coming and had tipped off HR. They took Rose to HR to get her employee card sorted.
Rose had always worked with Hubert, so everything at Solomon Group was new to her. She took in every detail as she walked by.
Everyone at Solomon Group looked super energetic.
Rose thought to herself, 'No wonder this place was started by Darwin.'
After getting all the paperwork done, the HR manager took Rose to the 27th floor, pointed to an office, and said, "Ms. Everhart, that's your office."
Rose frowned. "Shouldn't my office be on the top floor?"
"Ms. Everhart, the top floor is for the president's office. You're Ms. Woods' executive secretary, so your office is here," the HR manager explained politely.
Rose's face fell. "Where's Ms. Woods?"
"I'm not sure. She'll let you know when she needs you," the HR manager said.
After the HR manager left, Rose's mood soured.
She strutted into her office in her high heels.
The view was great, overlooking the whole CBD.
But she couldn't shake the feeling that Fiona was just stashing her somewhere.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
A neatly dressed girl holding a stack of documents walked in.
"Are you Ms. Everhart?" The girl put down the documents. "I'm Xanthe from the president's office. Ms. Woods asked me to bring these to you."
"What are these?" Rose glanced at the girl's badge, confirming she was from the president's office.
"Next quarter, Solomon Group has a big acquisition coming up. These are the financial statements of the other company for the past ten years. Ms. Woods needs you to sort through this by next Monday," Xanthe explained.
Rose looked at the pile of documents. "Today is already Friday."
"I know, that's why Ms. Woods gave you until next Monday since you're just starting," Xanthe said sincerely.
It was the first time Fiona had ever mentored someone.
The president's office had been buzzing all morning, wondering how impressive the new person must be.
After all, Amaryllis, Fiona's previous assistant, was a powerhouse.
Rose's face was dark, but under Xanthe's hopeful gaze, she agreed.
After Xanthe left, Rose sat down, picked up the top document, and felt a headache coming on as she looked at all the numbers.
Meanwhile, Fiona was getting ready to head to another city for a meeting.
After taking a call from the president's office, Henry looked at Fiona with concern. "Ms. Woods, this acquisition is pretty important. Ms. Everhart..."
Henry had gone over Rose's resume.
It was practically useless.
Even though her university had a good rep, her grades were always bad.
In Solomon Group's usual hiring process, her resume would've been tossed out, let alone making her Fiona's secretary.
"Don't worry, I'm just giving her some tasks. Another team is handling the acquisition," Fiona said lightly, looking at the documents in her hand.
Henry finally relaxed.
He knew Fiona wouldn't play favorites.
"By the way, Finnian and the others went to Phoenix Prism today," Henry changed the subject. "They'll take Charles with them."
