Chapter 648 The Cultivation of a Poor Student
Two days later, the final exam scores were released.
Charles, with no surprise, came first in his grade, scoring close to full marks, seventy points higher than second place.
As for Chicago, although she didn't come last, having her older brother's ranking first, her grade seemed not good enough.
When they received their report cards, Chicago's head drooped down.
Rarely, did Darwin and Fiona come to the school together because Darwin had donated an art center to the school. The principal felt particularly close to him.
In reality, Mr. Solomon just wanted his daughter to have a place at school where she could enjoy painting.
Inside the art center, there was an exclusive studio just for her.
"But Chicago's grades need to be improved during the winter vacation." The principal looked at Chicago's report card and was at a loss for words.
"Ethan!" At that moment, Chicago, with her head down, suddenly looked forward and excitedly shouted.
The three adults turned their heads in the direction of her gaze.
Ethan stopped in his tracks when he was called.
Ethan walked over. "Mr. Solomon, Fiona, principal."
"Did Ethan come first again?" Fiona asked gently.
Ethan nodded.
The principal proudly spoke, "Although this kid is usually annoying, his grades are undeniable. If he were to go on an exchange program for a year, he would surely come back with even better grades. Such a good opportunity wasted!"
The principal was still upset about the exchange student issue.
At that moment, Ethan's gaze fell upon Chicago's report card, causing him to furrow his brow in concern.
Every time he passed by Chicago's classroom, he saw Chicago listening attentively.
How did Chicago score so low on the test?
"Ethan, I heard from the principal that you tutor on the side?" Fiona noticed Ethan's gaze and thought about the promise she had made to her daughter earlier, so she asked.
"When I have free time, I help the owner of the pool hall's son you saw last time with his homework," Ethan replied.
"Then can you find some time to help Chicago as well? Chicago didn't grow up in Armie, so most of her thoughts are focused on drawing, which makes studying a bit difficult for her," Fiona said.
"Yes, yes, Ethan, please be my tutor! My deskmate said you're great at explaining problems. She said her brother would come to you if he didn't understand, and you explain better than the teachers!" Chicago's beautiful eyes were full of anticipation.
"Charles is even better than me," Ethan replied.
"Ethan, you're amazing, but I can't seem to understand when Charles explains things," Chicago said sincerely.
Charles is a naturally talented student. He can glance at some simple math problems and have the answers. As for steps and procedures, Charles has almost non-existent.
Ethan wanted to refuse, but then he glanced at Chicago's report card.
With such poor grades, how will Chicago get into college in the future?
For an average college, parents can spend money to get them in, but what about top-tier institutions?
"I'll check my schedule." Ethan lowered his gaze.
"Alright," Fiona smiled and nodded. "Auntie will be waiting for your message."
"Okay," Ethan replied, nodding slightly again, and then walked towards the school gate.
The principal shook his head and sighed. "Ethan has been hurt by his own family as well. Look at his indifferent personality."
"Indifferent?" Fiona looked at Ethan's back. "I think Ethan is quite warm-hearted, isn't he?"
Ethan often helped people in need. He had tutored the owner of the pool hall's son before, so Ethan was more than willing to tutor Chicago as well.
Besides, Ethan was also willing to give up his opportunity as an exchange student, allowing other classmates to take his place.
As for the issue of studying abroad, Fiona had someone look into it.
Only then did she find out that besides Ethan, there was another female classmate at school who was also eligible for the exchange program, but there was only one spot available.
The principal fought for him based on his top prize in the competition, so the spot was given to him.
The family background of that female classmate is average.
She worked hard for a long time to get this opportunity. Ethan gave up the opportunity, and the opportunity smoothly went to that female classmate.
Fiona exchanged a few more words with the principal before she and Darwin left with Chicago.
On the way, Darwin looked at the report card and muttered to Fiona, "Honey, didn't Chicago do well on the exam? Is it necessary for the principal to be like this?"
Fiona felt speechless. "Out of 400 students in the grade, your daughter ranked 297. Is this considered doing well?" She clicked her tongue and continued, "Mr. Solomon, you shouldn't be so biased toward your daughter. When you choose your employer, you only hired the first place."
"As long as she's happy, I can spoil her for the rest of my life," Darwin justified. "Do you want Ethan to come and tutor Chicago?"
"It's what your daughter requested. What can I do?" Fiona held Darwin's arm. "Dad, you're not jealous of Ethan, are you?"
Darwin had already noticed that Chicago had a special liking for Ethan. She was especially sweet when she called him "Ethan".
"I think Ethan is just a kid. Charles is smarter than him," Darwin muttered.
Darwin's gaze fell on Chicago, who was bouncing ahead. When she first received her report card, Chicago was a little unhappy. Now that Ethan was going to tutor her, she became happy again.
Fiona laughed heartily, her shoulders shaking with amusement. Darwin glanced at Fiona with a helpless expression.
"Your daughter likes people who look good, didn't I tell you? When she was three years old, she saw the beautiful lady next door and followed her home."
"Is Ethan good-looking?" Darwin frowned. He was just a child who hadn't grown up yet.
"Of course he is!" Fiona answered without hesitation. Darwin's expression became displeased.
"Is he really that good-looking?" Fiona smiled until her cheeks felt sore.
"Of course, Mr. Solomon is the most good-looking!" Finally, a smile appeared on Darwin's face.
Charles, the little kid, waited in the nanny's car for his sister and parents.
After his mom received his sister's report card, she showed it to him. Charles and his dad held the same view. His sister's happiness was the most important, especially because of Chicago's talent in painting, which others could not catch up with.
As long as Chicago wasn't illiterate, everything else was secondary. The most important thing was his sister's happiness!
"Brother, you ranked first in the grade! You're so amazing!" Chicago got in the car and immediately started complimenting her big brother. " I'm just not very smart; I ranked 297!"
Charles wanted to comfort her.
"But mommy just hired Ethan to tutor me during Christmas. Next time, I will cross out that 2 and aim for the top 100, rank 97!" Chicago said.
"Okay, Ethan just said he would come back to have a look at the time," Fiona said as she fastened the seatbelt in Chicago's car seat.
But Chicago was determined, "When Ethan says 'look at the time,' it means he agrees to help me with my studies! Mommy, we need to clean up a room for Ethan to stay in. Oh, and Ethan doesn't have any family around anymore, and Christmas is coming soon. Mommy, can we invite Ethan to celebrate Christmas with us?" "
