Chapter 1250
Fiona touched her forehead and realized she had a fever.
"Maybe I caught a cold, don't worry about it," she said, sitting up straight. "There's a car waiting for you at the airport exit. No need to go back to Emerald Pool. Your luggage and gear are already in the car. Head straight to Aunt Scarlet's place."
"What?" Burl hadn't closed his eyes the entire flight back, busy reviewing documents. He didn't expect that upon landing in Armie, he wouldn't even get to go home and would be sent elsewhere directly.
"Don't you get it?" Fiona looked at Burl.
"Got it," Burl quickly nodded.
After getting off the plane, he pulled Mike aside and said, "Mike, Fiona's got a slight fever. Make sure she takes some medicine when you get back."
Mike agreed wholeheartedly.
Burl still wasn't reassured. He kept nagging Fiona the whole way.
In the end, Fiona got so annoyed that she shoved him into the car.
It was morning in Armie when they landed. Fiona bought a box of fever reducers at a roadside pharmacy and headed straight to the Solomon Group after taking them.
Once at the Solomon Group, she held a high-level meeting. The so-called high-level were actually Darwin's trusted deputies.
Fiona said, "You guys probably already know that Mr. Solomon was severely injured before and hasn't fully recovered. Recently, he's had some complications. After discussing it, we've decided to pause his return to the company."
The few vice presidents looked at each other but said nothing.
Fiona continued, "We've contacted several specialists, and Mr. Solomon has already gone abroad for treatment. His return date is uncertain. He has arranged all your tasks before leaving, and unless there are major changes, things will stay as they are. Do you guys still have questions?"
"Ms. Woods, rest assured. Mr. Solomon had already instructed that if his old injuries flare up and he can't continue working, we should follow your directives," Kyle immediately said.
Fiona lowered her eyelids, hiding the emotions in her eyes. Darwin, realizing he might be overtaken by that bad vision, had instructed her not to cling to him if he turned evil. At the same time, he had told his confidants to follow her instructions...
"Everyone, this year has been full of challenges for Darwin and me. The Solomon Group is in a rapid development phase. We are very grateful for your support all along. Once we get through this final hurdle, Darwin and I will surely repay you all." Fiona stood up and bowed to the vice presidents.
Henry was the first to react. He quickly stood up, saying, "Ms. Woods, what are you doing? Mr. Solomon and you have shown us kindness and promoted us. This is what we should be doing!"
The others echoed his sentiments.
Fiona didn't say much more. After all, in such superior-subordinate relationships, loyalty was just a momentary thought, a single sentence. The choice was in their hands. However, Fiona didn't think it should be taken for granted.
After the meeting ended, she was ready to head back. Ashton, knowing she was returning, spent the entire morning preparing a meal for her.
Henry escorted Fiona to the garage. He didn't ask what had happened to Darwin this time. He reported some work matters.
When they reached the garage, Fiona's phone rang. She glanced at it; it was an unfamiliar number.
Fiona answered and heard the voice. "Is this Mrs. Solomon? This is Attorney Smith. Do you remember me?"
"Attorney?" Fiona thought the name sounded familiar.
"Brooke's attorney. Do you remember?" he asked with a smile.
"Oh, it's you, Mr. Smith!" Fiona's memory quickly returned. Brooke had an old friend who was also her lawyer. Her financial matters were handled by Attorney Smith, but in recent years, he had grown old and had delegated these tasks to his students. For instance, Brooke's estate division was handled by one of his students.
